i love this idea and seeing a few of us replied something to the extent of..."i want to go there!" i went online and did a search about these sky lanterns for possible purchase. totally do-able, a bit expensive but could be fun. i'm thinking a NYE, post show, lantern ceremony should be had at the casa del blasto-of course only if blasto is ok with it
if you can't go to the festival...bring the festival to you!
they are totally safe and biodegradable when they come back down to the ground. so no burning down the NC woods and they won't junk up Mother Earth.
they are to symbolize letting go of your worries and problems. (i, for one, could use something like that!)
what could be a better way to start the new year?let's light up the asheville sky!

I wish I was going anywhere besides the office. Including home to watch The Office
yay! well, even if we end up being the only ones lighting sky lanterns...they sell them on e bay and i'm thinking of putting some bids on some. they appear to be in 10 packs on there, could end up getting a great deal. i could account for 4 of those (me and my 3 travel buds-angi, tink and her hubby). you can get them in 36 packs and such. saw that (36 packs) for about $90, just looking quickly. bulk appears to be the way to go; so maybe whoever wants to do a lantern just speaks up and we can all go in on some.
i'll see what i come up with going the e bay route....
...if i wasn't over the top excited before, now i'm ready to burst!

Dang! I hope you all video this!!!!! I have wanted to participate in one of those ever since I first saw them. Someone will video it I suppose, right? Maybe I'll get some for my NYE partay, but we have soooooo many trees. I can't inagine doing it in downtown ATL on New Years day, but hmmmmmm, the hotel does have a rooftop pool! I shall ponder that...
We are so totally doing this! I'm very excited and have just let a few more people in attendance know about it. Let's do this right! I'm sure someone will film it, also. I'm thinking the 36 pack sounds about right for how many will be coming, and that's less than 3 dollars a piece. Let's do this.

I was looking online last night and that's the cheapest I saw too. Also tried to see if they'd be easy (cheaper) to make and it seems like it wouldn't be.

It was my understanding that most people were going to bring their own, perhaps with a few extras for those that don't have one. Perhaps I should be taking more of an initiative here and buy some, but it's difficult to figure out exactly how many we will need. One each, two each? Three?

we are ordering from the same place. we are getting a couple each to account for misfires, doing a second one, or whatever, so we may have an extra or two, just in case people don't order, but yeah, we are getting some for our group, and that does seem easiest. plus then one person isn't stuck buying a bunch and maybe not getting rid of them all and then being out a bunch of cash.
hopefully everyone is who is thinking about it will get someone from their group to order some.
