The Lexington Show will be my Wife's 60th Avett Show!

We were getting asked by alot of people how many shows we have been too so we decided to break down and count the shows tonight. I saved the link that was posted a few months back to all the past shows. She is at 59 and I'm at 58. She is one ahead of me because she got to go to a North Carolina show that I couldn't make.

Not sure what going to 60 and 59 shows says about her and I...but I do know one thing. If you are talking to us at a show and it appears we are ignoring you...we aren't...we have simply lost our hearing! haha

I believe Sundayrehab is ahead of us in shows and we have made a pact to never pass him. He is partly responsible for helping the country to get know and hear the guys' music. Thanks David, the music has changed our lives!

Best show? Dunn Center in Rocky Mt, NC.

Congrats!
I was lucky enough to meet you both at my very first show.
Keep on, keepin' on. See you at the next Knoxville show!!!

How lucky are you guys?!!! Congratulations. I wanna be like you when I grow up! Laughing out loud

sunday, what is your show count up to now?

I feel like a newborn...only 5 shows so far. By October it will be 8.

Things change and get strange with the movement of time.
It's happening right now to you.

Lamar and Tonya,

You are the first people that friended me at shows. Thank you so much for being the folks that you are! Quite a milestone indeed. I am happy for you both. I hope you get all your favs in Lexington...including Smoke!

Ah yes! Mr. Rehab..thanks for all you have done as well.

Lamar I would give anything to go back to tthat show at Kent Stage on that cold rainy November night. Just once more.

32 and counting for me....

David surely does have the most shows under his belt, but Lamar and Tonya have to hold the one year record. Not sure what the number is, but before they were blessed by Tonya becoming a babymaker I think they were attending more shows than Bobby C. Cool

Congratulations

says that you value and love great music!

Congrats to you both! Of course I am pretty jealous, but I would certainly be posting that too if I were lucky enough to attend so many shows. I've only got a measly 19 under my belt Eye-wink I'm curious to know however, why was the show in Rocky Mt., NC the favorite so far? Just wondering. When was that one? Congratulations though!

I wanna live, and I want you to live happy and free

All of these reply's are what makes the Avett's and their fans so great. I don't want to take anything away from the Avett's, but the friends we have made along the way are half the reason we go to the shows now. I'm as excited to see Mark, Diana, Jerry, Tim, Allie ect...ect...and all the others just as much as I am to hear the Avett's belt out the first few words to "Shame". All of you are a class above when it comes to the words "quality friends." Tonya feels the same way.

The Rocky MT show is hard to describe. Bob was in a band called New Jersey Transient, which opened the show. That was a treat. We also got "The Day Marvin Gaye Died" when Seth and Scott joined them on stage for a song. Which also was very cool. There was just something magical to the evening. Anyone who was there knows what I'm talking about. Beautiful venue..not overly crowded (which was surprising considering the location) During "Smoke in our Lights" you literally could have heard a pin drop on the stage during the stop in the song. Musically and vocally it was the best I've ever heard them. I've talked to a few others who where there that night and there was just something that is indescribable that went on. If I could make heads or tails out of this site I would post the setlist..but I can't find it. lol

60....WOW!!!! Amazing what good music and community can make of you. Glad that Mary and I were able to see the two of you the other night. Parenthood makes getting to the shows a little more of a challenge.....but you're right, seeing everyone makes it that much better. We are around 20 shows with Mary beating me by a couple, but we'll keep after it and once James is ready to see them live, we'll get him on board. Although when Scott tickled his feet back at Merlefest '08, I think he became a fan for life. Great to see you and everyone and we can't wait to do it again in the near future.

Always wonder and love every day!

Thanks for the kind words.
I just check my list and I am standing at 70 shows. It would have been 71 if the weather had been better in Columbia. I have slowed down a good bit in the last year or so. I knew I would be seeing fewer shows as the venues grew bigger and the crowds less inviting. I do feel very lucky to have discovered them in 04. I only wish I had run into them a few years earlier. It’s been a blast watching their popularity explode.

That is a crazy amount of shows- we've only gotten up to about 16. I wish we could have discovered them before 2006 or that I had the money and time off work to follow them everywhere they go. That would be the best scenario for my life EVER.

When I met David last year at Cary, I almost asked him for his autograph Smiling

Hopefully there will be many more shows in both your futures Lamar... I look forward to hopefully meeting you and your wife at a show in the near future.

It'd be no easy task to find two truer fans than Lamar and his beautiful wife. It would be twice as hard to find nicer people. The fact that they and I are nearly polar opposites is a testament to the magic of this band's music and it's power to unite.

May your lives be filled with the things that make you smile.

And may all your shows from now on......be together.

Hey Lamar, 1st, awesome! Second, what was the date of that show? (2006?)

Had a good time in Lexington Lamar, so good to meet you and your wife and adorable daughter! I really hope to have my Avett shows attended that high one day, in fact I'm making it a goal!

just curious,
do you have the time or money to attend concerts by other bands?
congrats on 60, that's sounds like Grateful Dead numbers to me!

I can’t speak for Lamar but I find the time and money to see a lot of other shows. I don’t play golf so music is my major passion. I suspect I go to 4 or 5 shows a month and 3 or 4 festivals a year. Having been a live music junky for over almost 40 years I am sure I have seen well over a thousand concerts. As for Dead numbers I would put my count at around 25 shows. My first Dead show was in 1971 at Duke. Pig Pen was still with the band and I was 15.

Congratulations Lamar and Tonya! I don't know if you guys get CD101 in Lank-aster but apparently the Avetts are on their radar and are currently being evaluated for air-able songs! I've been hounding them for months (and again this past weekend) to play the Avetts and it just figures that I move and they finally come around. Oh well, I hope someone w/i listening range will flip when it finally happens. I hope some day I'll be able to say I've seen 60 shows too. You guys are rad. O-H!

Thanks for all the kind words. YOU are what makes liking the Avett Brothers easy. Great band and great people.

This is a great point. People are different in so many way, but good music can bring even the most bitter enemies together. I'm not saying we are enemies, but I think you get the point. Sticking out tongue

"what was the date of that show? (2006?)"

I would be guessing but I would say the date for the Rocky Mt show was early Sept in 06? I could be horrible wrong though.

"just curious,

Yes, we have the time and money to see other bands. When we first discovered the Avett's we both had jobs where would be schedule months in advance. That made it easy to hit shows all over the place. We also enjoy other shows as well, but since the baby that has slowed down. We also try to hit music festivals. No matter what though, if HGTR, Langhorne Slim or the Two Man Gentleman band are playing around the area, we are there!

"Had a good time in Lexington Lamar, so good to meet you and your wife and adorable daughter! I really hope to have my Avett shows attended that high one day, in fact I'm making it a goal!"

Exactly...we are very passionate people. I believe if you find something that brings you joy, seek it out and do it! I know you like TAB so I do encourage you to take the bull by the horns and live life and travel to see them!

Sara,

CD 101 was the only radio station I listened to in High School. We do get it here in Lancaster. I will have to start bugging them to start playing good music again!

You are correct sir. It was Sept. 8, 2006 and it was indeed one of the very best. The next night they played with The Violent Femmes in Greensboro. You can see a video of that show on TABlive.com

Lamar,
I LOVE me some Two Man Gentlemen Band!

The Two Man Gentleman Band are in my top 5 favs right now. Witty doesn't even begin to describe them. I tried to talk Bobz into having them at his daughters wedding..but I think they might have been a little too racy for the event! They are fun nevertheless!

They, Two Man Gentleman Band, were at Pickathon 07 along with Jason Webley, Ian Thomas, Langhorne Slim, Martha Scanlan, The Hacienda Brothers, and of course our boys along with a few more great bands.

I don't know if any of you remember my report back from that event, but I recall telling everyone I had just seen a weekend of incredible acts. I think I bought just under a dozen new CDs there. Definitely the most music by bands attending I've ever bought at a festival.

That is the dream bill!

Have to throw the Hunger Mountain Boys in there. They are my favorite.
Lamar, Two Man is taper friendly, if you want a copy of a couple live shows I taped.

Also, I almost wrote on my post:
"I LOVE me some Two Man!"
But, thought I should put Gentlemen Band in there too. (Not that there's anything wrong with that. : )
