loyal avett fans getting ripped off
So i bought tickets to the Silverton Casino show on Sept 2nd early so i can go see the boys do their thing. Then came the buy one get one free offer. I called the casino and the said it doesn't apply to tickets already purchased. And that it was the bands promotion and they (the casino) could do nothing for me. I've seen the Avett's probably 20 times, my favorite band by far. My question is this. I'm a loyal fan why am i getting penalized for buying my tickets early and someone who waits gets the same general admission ticket as me but for half the price?!? someone explain please. and if anyone on the promotion team of the band sees this please help.

You are in no way getting penalized and I'm sorry you feel you're getting ripped off. I remember when I bought my gps 2 years ago. I payed full price. A couple weeks later I saw that they went on sale. I guess best buy ripped me off. I did feel kind of dumb but that's life.
But seriously, don't assume you are more loyal of a fan because you bought your tickets early. There is plenty of evidence on ebay contradicting that theory. I consider myself a loyal fan and have bought tickets last minute, I'm certain a lot of people have. Plans change and schedules open up. Be happy you have your tickets and aren't scrambling at the last minute trying to find extras and maybe contemplating shelling out hundreds of dollars to those most loyal of fans...the scalpers. I'm happy for those who are getting a deal and maybe haven't seen the band live or even heard of them before. Loyal fans are made that way.
I'm tired and delirious and probably made no sense in this post.
No matter what the venue told you I seriously doubt the band made the decision. I would think it came from the promoter. This sort of promotion happens all the time. With overall concert ticket sales are down over 10% this year half price deals have become so common at the Amphitheaters that many fans are waiting until the last minute to buy their tickets. This strategy does not work if you care about how good your seats are. This first happened at an Avett Show when they threw the Avett Jubilee/Festival Essex.
They did it for Charlotte last year as well.
Just roll with it is all I can say.
That stuff happens. The economy is really bad in Las Vegas abd they are probably just trying to fill the venue.
I am more unhappy with the LA deal that I mentioned in a previous post. I got pre sale tickets but it seems like all the Ticket Brokers have the front row seats. To me that is just offensive.
doofrooroo, I'm with you on the L.A. show. I, too, got pre-sale tix and am stuck in row N. Sorry if this is coming off as over-complaining; really I'm happy they're coming to my town, I'd just prefer to be closer to the stage, especially when AA promises "the best seats." I was really hoping that the newbie I'm bringing with me would get the "front row" experience, or at least 2-5th row. Oh well...
yellow bandit, your comment about your gps is my whole problem. Most places you can take your receipt back into a store and get credit if an item goes on sale shortly after you bought it. i was hoping the same would apply here. and i also got the first round of presale tickets for the LA show and got stuck in N. It just doesnt seem right. oh well i guess.
Stuff goes on sale all the time--like others have said, they are trying to fill seats. Maybe they'd have taken his receipt weeks later, maybe not, that policy depends on the store. I work in a travel agency. You take a chance when you buy a ticket the price will go up or down. Sure, it may go down later, but if it doesn't and you wait for a sale, you may not get to fly at the time or day that you prefer.
As I recall for the Charlotte sale last year, the seats weren't very good, right? Nate, do you remember? I'd still have paid full price for the ticket I got instead of paying half price for the seats that were available.
I hear you on the presale thing--row N shouldn't even be in a presale--how is that an advantage. I mentioned my dissatisfaction with the seats AND price for Baltimore and I haven't heard a thing.
I talked to Lamar yesterday. He just bought Sufjan Stevens' tickets in a presale and feels they have it down right. You are guaranteed the first 20 rows (which is six rows past N by my count), but you don't know where your seats are until you pick up your tickets at Will Call. And Will Call is the only option for presale tickets. For all practical purposes that eliminates resale of tickets - especially by brokers. That sounds very fair IF all the seats in those first 20 rows are available AND they are distributed in relation to the time of purchase. Those are things that could only be known over time.
Certainly, the AA system needs improvement and explanation. We've had enough experience to know their system is confusing at best, does not eliminate or even seem to slow scalpers, often does not offer the best seats and at least seems unfair. I also am very put off by the magical "front row" and "early entry" distribution. Maybe that is because the magic has yet to work in my favor, but I believe it should be a simple "first come, first served."
"first come, first served."
What a concept !!!!!
It gets my vote, and yes I believe the Charlotte deal was for the last/top 4 or 5 rows.
Yeah, the very back of the bowl/back wall, whatever. The seats farthest from the stage.
This is just wrong and I everytime I think about it it makes upset.

In the meantime, you should try to make it to a Garden Party:

I believe etix is who Sufjan goes through. Here's how it went down for me. The day before the presale, I got en e-mail from his record label saying his presale is the next day at 1pm. I had no idea he was even coming out on tour until the e-mail! They made it known, the first 20 rows will be sold through etix without all of those extra fees. They also said all tickets in the presale are will call only AND you will not know the location of the tickets until you pick them up. So if you were OK just knowing you were in the first 20 rows somewhere, you loved what was going down. I got in right at 1pm and got 2 for Asheville, NC. Quick and easy! I would assume they will seat us in the order the tickets were bought, but I don't know. I will give a full report on November 8th the day after the show. But I have to give Sufjan Stevens and etix a thumbs up as of now. The only thing that would be make me mad is if we are not in the first 20 rows. But I have no reason to believe we aren't. As Mark said, scalping should be cut down a considerable amount. I would assume real true fans will be in the first 20 rows at every one of his shows.
Here is the site that they sold the tickets through...

jeremyandrew,
If you don't mind my asking, which seats in row N do you have? Mine are 215 & 216.
The KY contingent also bought tickets for the Sufjan Stevens tour (Knoxville show). We got ours during the public sale and ended up in row E.
I agree with Sunday, I am not a fan of not knowing my seat until the day of the show.
David,
We were already visiting my in-laws in Hickory, NC, so it won't be a huge deal if the ticket situation goes to heck in a hand basket. But you might be right!
This is a show I don't care where my tickets are to be honest. I've wanted to see him for years. He is one of my favorite Christian artists and I think it will be an uplifting spiritual experience.
Littledeadhead,
I checked the Asheville general sale and I got row W when they went on sale. Maybe no one in Knoxville likes SS. haha I can't wait to see how the seat situation goes down, but as I said, doesn't matter to me. I'm happy with the way it has gone so far.
@Lamar I'm just happy to be in the building. I've also wanted to see Sufjan for a while. Excited to finally get the chance. Hope the ticket situation works out in your favor, friend. Be sure to report back.
Lamar,
I wasn't aware of the show before it sold out, but I would still like to meet you and the Mrs. if you guys want to grab dinner somewhere while you're in town. I know a few good places
I can't speak for eTix presales, but they recently took over as The Orange Peel's ticketing service, and I find it's a much better alternative to Artist Arena or Ticketmaster. Which isn't exactly hard to achieve, but it's still nice to get a breath of fresh air from time to time.
I am still stuck on the ticket broker situation.
Like sundayrehab mentioned most presale give a % of the best seats in the house so I get that. I am more upset that Ticket Brokers seem to have THE best seats. No fan pre sale or public sale even had a shot at them.
Kinda of a principle of thing.
