The show last night was fantastic from beginning to end. My first Avett Bros live experience, hopefully not the last.
I'm a 40 year old from Liverpool. transplanted to AZ for work. I've seen a wide variety of great acts thru years, but the Avetts are really up there with anything I've seen. Wonderful musicians, great show, all underpinned by great material.
This band also appear to have a real rapport with the audience and a humility that is endearing. I got the feeling that they feel grateful to be doing what they are doing and passionate about the music. Good for them.
I only discovered the Avetts earlier this year when they were on the cover of Acoustic Guitar magazine (I'm a bit of a guitar geek) and just downloaded a couple of tracks on a whim. January Wedding was the first song that really got to me, so very happy they played that last night. Would've liked to have heard The Ballad of Love and Hate, Murder In The City, but with such a wealth of great material to draw on I was always going to be disappoint about some omission!
Looking forward to the next time this band come through town.

So awesome. Welcome to the world of Avert live. They truly make a live show worth every dime and mile.
We drove from California to arizona to see them in Mesa. I just couldn't resist the road trip and them being so close to California to not travel. We met them after the show and I have no real words to express how sweet and humble and amazing these guys are. It only pumped up my admiration and love for them as a band and humans. Their talent is not wasted that's for sure.
The venue was so great! There was no bad seat and felt intimate (which is the best way to see avett i think) Sitting on the hills of grass and being able to dance around. Oh so great.
I made a fabric banner spelling out Avett and the merch booth put it up. It felt so neat to see it up there. I hope the fellas see it and it stays within the avett-land. This was before I knew I was going to personally meet them.
I could go on forever about how much they brighten my heart and life.
Thank you avett brothers ans avett fans! It truly is a family.
(we are now on our way to the grand canyon before heading back home to California)

This show was AMAZING. Everything about it felt just right. The boys really brought out their all on stage. Seth seemed to be in a fantastic mood, dancing and jamming and interacting with the crowd. Joe was smiling and singing all night. I totally loved all the love people were giving Paul too, calling out his name and making him smile. Scott was fantastic as usual. Ugh I could go on and on about this night. It definitely was the perfect night. Everyone was in the right mood for it and the boys played a fantastic show.
And like Missmamie said, they were absolutely gracious and kind afterwards to all the people who waited to meet them. They spent time with every single person there. I haven't been to too many shows (yet), but this definitely tops my list of both Avett shows and all time favorite shows. My heart swells everytime I think about this night.
Its really a bummer you never saw them in London, they were great in Mesa, but the two times i saw them in the UK they were mind blowing!
You got to see them in London uponcripplecreek?! Wow amazing! Wait, were you at the Mesa show?
Yes I was at the Mesa show, but I live in southern california. i just got to backpack in europe two summers in a row, and had friends would were willing to indulge me.
))
Me too! Haha I'm from Socal as well. Yay California fans! I'm really glad I went to Mesa though. It was amazing.
I'd like to add another recollection while the memory is still fresh.
They opened with Living of Love. Just marched on stage with no intro or fanfare and started into it. A slow reflective wee ballad. I love the song and the lyrics. It's not been the easiest year or two, so I was frankly emotionally polaxed nearly started blubbing, seeing one of my favorite bands, sitting next to my wife, under those Arizona stars with all those beautiful harmonies and simple truths. Greatness.
I absolutely loved the Buddy Holly interlude in Pretty Girl from Annapolis,
it was by far the greatest night of my life. They need to come back, soon
