Tell me you can skip the day, and head up with me to the mountains.
I love The Low Anthem! I saw them open up for Ray LaMontagne a few months ago, and am looking forward to seeing them again with Josh Ritter in a few weeks. Oh My God Charlie Darwin is such a great album.
i was first introduced to the Low Anthem when they opened for Langhorne Slim in asheville over the summer. their music touches your soul, and the girl's voice is amazing.
I saw them open for Langhorne at that very same show. They were a bit of a downer compared to Langhorne, but I did enjoy their music. Like JLM, I would probably enjoy them more if I saw them at a lower energy show. I guess what I'm saying is I like them, but don't think they'd be the best match for The Avett Brothers, either.
Turner Ballroom is awesome.
We love TLA since hearing them with Langhorne a couple months back. OMGCD is a great album - Hey it's got a song about Ohio! I really hope they are doing the whole tour and show up in Athens.

wow, what an odd coincidence...was just acquainting myself with their music about an hour ago because they're co-headlining a show with blind pilot i'm attending next week. i liked what i heard, can't wait to see the live version!
Just looked them up and likin' what I hear. Thanks for bringing them to my attention!

This is great news, I hope they're on board for the entire spring tour! I really like these guys and have never been disappointed with them live. Sure they're a bit towards the mellow side, but they change things up instrumentally and it's always interesting. Also getting ready to see them once more next week, should be a good show w/ Blind Pilot.

There's actually a couple of songs on that CD referencing Ohio, but I don't hold it against them (still pissed about the 2004 Presidential election).
Definitely one of my top 25 CDs of 2009.

So... I've been checking out The Low Anthem, and I will say that I am impressed by their sound, the writing, and execution of their songs. I see the quality of it, but I'm wondering.... do they have anything upbeat? Any songs that are not hushed? I'm not trying to be critical, I'm just not sure what mood I would need to be in to listen to them for an extended period of time.
It is a VERY chilled album, but not the kind that gets too boring. NOt really driving music, although I have enjoyed it on a couple of my trips, but great for hanging around the house and surfing the web on a rainy day.
Much like today.
Think I'll pop it in.
(That's what sh....umm...nevermind)

Their live shows pick it up quite a bit on several of the songs - kind of like TAB when a slow CD tune goes upbeat live. They will not match the energy of PF or Langhorne or HGTR but more than everybodyfields.

Really like TLA - such gorgeous music and harmonies. I wonder if they'll be opening for the new West Coast tour dates? It says on their website that they're going to do a headlining tour after 10 shows with TAB, so seems like the answer's no. I'd love to see these two bands together!

I just want my life to be true
Just want my heart to be true
i saw them the other night and i LOVED them. out of a set of about 12 or so songs, i think there were about 4 upbeat ones. the great thing about them is they match the beauty and ethereal quality of their slow songs with screaming abandon on the upbeat ones. and one of the fast ones was a cover of "cigarettes, whiskey, and wild, wild women"...a cover also performed by TAB. so hopefully we'll see some kind of onstage collaboration!
and i know sometimes the downbeat artists are hard to watch as avett show openers because we're all so keyed up...but they're an absolute pleasure to watch. there is so much creativity and interesting stuff to look at, even if the beauty of the music is lost on you.
