The Mourning, the Silver, and the Bell

The Mourning, the Silver, and the Bell

I bought this album on Amazon tonight, and just finished listening to the first track.
Wow.
This has been discussed before, I'm sure, but I'm amazed at the raw emotion that Seth puts into this music. At about 3:20 and again near the end of the song, his voice is ragged and cracking, and I just want to give him a big hug.
I can already tell that this album is going to be sad in a beautifully transcendent way, and that I'm not going to listen to anything else for a good while.
Just my two cents. Smiling Sorry if this is going over old ground.

You're in for a lovely treat listening to the rest of that album. It's heavenly.

beatles_gal, I absolutely love this album. When my 14 yr. old is in the car with me and I tell him to pick out the music, many times he picks The Mourning, The Silver, The Bell.

At the end of the set, the old man who was going to be behind the wheel for the long haul home said, "Boys, that gave me God bumps."

By bought it on Amazon do you mean the 500 dollar physical copy that was floating around there a while back? Or the digital download?

Ah, the digital download. I may be many things, but rich is not one of them. Smiling I would love to have a physical copy, but the download is better than nothing.

I cannot believe I got lucky enough to have littledeadhead (aka Mary Ellen) pick up an original copy for me last year. I guess they found a few lying around some where and sold them at a show. Mary Ellen so graciously picked one up for me. I love how people here look out for one another and I hope to be able to return that favor somehow, somewhere, down the Avett road Smiling I am enjoying this CD as well.

I gave to you my ugly brown coat, you made it pretty when you put it on....

I got this as a christmas gift 2 years ago. This is a really great cd.

It's so funny that this CD came up today b/c I was on the train on the way to work and these two women were fighting (I was waiting for it to come to blows but it was just some harsh words and dirty looks) and I was like "Really? At 7:15 in the morning?" Slipped on my iPod and this came up randomly and it instantly made me feel better. It's lovely.

Will you forget when we have paid our debts,
who did we borrow from, who did borrow from?

Yeah, it's soothing. I like all the piano. And Seth's lovely singing, of course. Smiling

I have a brand new MP3 player and I immediately went to Amazon and bought it. NOW I finally know where "a woman's heart runs on gasoline" comes from!! Yep, just passed 3:20 and I'm gonna love this.

Thanks for the suggestion!

You're welcome!

This CD is literally all I've listened to since I've bought it, and I love it more each time. Such beautiful lyrics--"This night here is perfect for getting lost, perfect for taking off. Look at the sky, I'm surprised you would ask me to tell you why."

ah, This Night Here. sooo so good. What I (and probably all of you) wouldn't give for a Darling show....

I wanna have friends that I can trust,
That love me for the man I’ve become, not the man that I was.

"Oh yeah what a great record... I like listening to it on long drives at night... something about it..."

"a woman's heart runs on gasoline"

This is one of my favorite videos. You've all probably seen it, but talk about "raw emotion." "I suppose that's just the way it is."

Does anyone know what the real inspiration for The Mourning, The Silver and The Bell was ????
Thanks !

its generally a breakup cd right? i don't know the exact situation he was writing about but am i guessing right when i say jenny?or
some of the more knowlegable members of the nation might have a better explanation.

buut it is such an amazing album. its what i listen to when i need to calm down.. something about the raw emotionalism of seth's voice. he really means the words he writes and the music he writes.

this & who i used to be don't matter much at all to me

...I LOVE this album. And his cat's solo at the end of Rain on My Tin Roof is awesome...and then he lovingly says.."you just have so much to say"...awwww... Does anyone know where I can get atleast a download of "To Make the World Quiet" and "Killing the Headlamps"?

This album is one of my favorites of all time. It was literally a perfect soundtrack to a relationship I had a while back. I want a Darling show more than any other show I could see. I love TAB's music, sincerity, wholesomeness, and general repect for people in a world of disrespect, dishonesty, and cruelty. However, the longer I listen to the guys, the more I find myself respecting Seth's writing and musicianship. In a band as perfect as TAB, he stands out more to me the longer I listen to him. He's my idol, and hopefully will serve as an idol and role model for many people for many years. As far as "To Make the World Quiet" and "Killing the Headlamps" are concerned, I'm on a non-stop mission looking for them myself. Maybe someday....
