My favorite season...
My favorite season...
Posted: Saturday, August 15, 2009 - 13:35
...is football season. (Spring is okay too...but whatever.) To some people it may seem a little early, but I've been itching for weeks, and the NFL preseason games are getting me ready. I know there are some on here who don't care for pro football and only watch it at the college level, but I love both. I guess this is an open discussion for everyone to talk about their excitement about the most wonderful time of the year-- NFL and college alike.

I'm a huge college football fan. I can't wait for the season to start. And I'm a huge Alabama fan. Predictions for the Bama vs. VT game?
Words cannot explain how much I love football season. I'm really excited about both college and NFL football. Virginia Tech will be really tough, but I'm super pumped about seeing Carolina make a run at an ACC title. The summer before my freshman year, when Butch Davis was hired, I told everybody that before I graduated Carolina would play in a BCS bowl game - everyone laughed at me then, but it will be a very big possibility the next couple of years. There are very few things that can rival fall Saturday afternoons spent in Kenan Stadium watching college football.
I've lost a little bit of my interest in pro football over the last couple of years, but I'm still a huge Panthers fan and am looking forward to seeing them shake off that embarrassment of a playoff game against the Cardinals.

Nothing's good because nothing lasts. And all that comes, it comes here to pass.
I would voice my pain, but the change wouldn't last.
All that comes, it comes here to pass.
Hell yeah! Sundays feel very lonely and boring after January...
Falcons start today at 4! Can't wait!!!!

I guess I should have mentioned that as far as college football goes...I'm a huge Texas fan (I was born there, it's in my blood), and I graduated from ECU, so I'm a huge Pirate fan too.
As far as the NFL goes...I'm a Cowboys fan, although it's embarrassing at times, no one has to tell me that.
I also like the Panthers, and I follow several other teams. I absolutely despise the Patriots, though. Ugh...Bill Belicheck (or however you spell it) makes me sick...and it was so nice to not have to hear about Tom Brady last year, but all the analysts have already started talking again like he's the best thing that's happened to the sport since the football was invented.

"And I don't know if my soul is safe , Sometimes I use curse words when I pray"
I'm not allowed to watch college basketball in public (a decree handed down by my boyfriend when I got *this close* to getting into a fight in an Upper East Side bar with a guy last year who talked s*** on Tyler Hansbrough), but one of my favorite activities is day drinking and eating bad bar food while watching sports. So college football season is an excellent time of year for me. I care enough about the games to make it interesting, but not so much that I'll come to blows with someone if they start shooting off his/her mouth about my team.
Obviously, I'm a Heels girl (uncch, I so hope you're right - It's been too long since Carolina has been a contender, and NO, there is no better way to pass a fall afternoon than in Kenan. Homecoming weekend was one of my best memories from last year) but I'm a midwestern Catholic so I pretty much HAVE to cheer for Notre Dame or else I'll go to hell. Not a big pro fan in any sport, but it's fun to watch Giants games in NYC bars and gotta pull for the Panthers too.
But seriously. Isn't it almost basketball season?

Can;t wait for the season to begin. I hope i can make it to a few Panthers games this year!

This is our decision to live fast and die young, We've got the vision. Now let's have some fun!-MGMT
You might not want to...I'm watching the pre-season game right now against the Giants, and it looks like the Panthers are picking up where they left off. Like the shameful Cardinals game to close out last season, it looks like someone has to remind Jake Delhomme what color jerseys the Panthers are wearing. I hope they can fix this. And maybe we should start looking for a reliable Plan B at quarterback, or at least start thinking about it for next year. It will be a good quarterback draft next year.

My husband and friends are going to the VT-Alabama game in Atlanta... he has talked about it non-stop since he got wind of it months and months ago. His tickets coming in was a major, MAJOR event around here...He's talked so much junk about Alabama, he'll never live it down if Tech loses. He's the die-hardest Hokie you'll ever meet...
SERIOUSLY. We may have to move away if Tech is defeated...
Haha, yeah I can't wait for the game. Hopefully I can find a good deal on tickets soon. I really want to go. Should be a great one. I just hope Bama can pull it off. Tell your husband I said good luck. haha.
Giants fan here. Football season is my favorite and most tense time of the year. Looking forward to 5 months on the edge of my seat.

I wanna have friends. That I can trust. That love me for the man I've become not the man that I was.
IT'S GREAT TO BE A FLORIDA GATOR!
Even though I'm not one, I've been a Florida fan since birth since my parents, their siblings, and all their spouses have gone to UF. My college didn't have a football team so I still cheer on the Gators every chance I get.
Pro football is a little tougher. I don't particularly care for the Miami Dolphins even though I was born and raised in South Florida, so I adopted the Chicago Bears when I moved to the city. Now I'm in San Diego so I guess I'll be a Chargers fan this year..
heids,
As a Duke fan, I hope you know that it is now my job to give you endless amounts of s*** for liking UNC now that you called yourself out. Sorry, just the way it's gotta be.
IT'S GREAT TO BE A TENNESSEE VOL!
Alyx, no offense to you, but I hate Florida and anything that has to do with the Gaytors. I've bled orange and white since I was young, and always will. Title talk on Rocky Top! As for NFL, The Titans are gonna make another run this year after starting the season of 10-0 last year. Smash and Dash = Lendale White and Chris Johnson.
--
Go Vols!
TEdwards, no offense taken. However, I do foresee some serious trash talking taking place once the season starts. I'll try and keep it as friendly as possible
My dad is (obviously) a Gator fan. His best friend is a Vols fan. They make a bet on the game every year and it gets vicious. I live for it!
I would bet on alot of games but I definetly wouldn't bet on the Florida and UT game this year. My heart says Tennessee is going to win, but thats just biased gut. Unfortately, Saint Tebow will probably thrash us again.
--
Go Vols!
Looooveeee Tebow. 15!
It's ok, Blasto - my boyfriend is a Duke fan, so November through April is interesting in our house, to say the least.
And I'm not that worried about needing to defend the Heels...

Will you forget when we have paid our debts,
who did we borrow from, who did borrow from?
My only sports season is college basketball season - Go Jayhawks!!!!
Heidi - good thing you don't live in KC anymore - we might have issues.
I don't suppose anyone on here follows the trials and tribulations of the Presbyterian College Blue Hose?
Yeah. Thought not.
GO HOSE!
(and Vols. My mom and dad went to Tennessee. Dad is a swimming SEC champion, 2 times over. Got the rings and everything!)
Nah, no issues here, Jennifer. Of course that's probably because Roy Williams has won 2 national championships in the 6 seasons he's coached my team, so....
Got Roy? We do!

Haha! Heids, I have to agree with Blasto...UNC makes me sick. And I'm looking forward to ECU beating ya'll down at home this season. No quarter!
And back to whoever mentioned the Tennessee Titans...I love Vince Young (former Longhorn, for those who have forgotten) and Chris Johnson (former ECU Pirate). And I'd love to see the Titans do well again this season, if VY and Kerry Collins have repeat performances of the most recent preseason game, I think the quarterback battle will get interesting. But, at the same time, I would also prefer that they don't put the beat down on Dallas on Friday...we need to redeem ourselves after losing to the whipping post Raiders.

We cannot wait for football season to start!!!!! Let's hope the Colts will have a great year under their new coach Jim Caldwell!!! We are also hoping the Cincinnati Bengals redeem themselves a bit this year...they have the talent but they are just too darn immature.
GO COLTS! Peyton Manning is my friend.
Megan, do I need to remind you also of who is State champs for last year?

Megan,
Where did you live in Texas? I, too was a Texan for 15 years. We were in Houston. I must say though, our loyalty at that time was with A&M....I know... AGGIES...Let the jokes begin!
Ann, I had no idea! I was born in Harlingen, which is waaaaayyyyyyyyy down south, near Brownsville (and Mexico). People see Harlingen when they're lost or if they're on the way to South Padre Island and are not already completely smashed. And your Aggies will be no match for my Longhorns this year! This is Colt McCoy's Heisman year, for sure!
Allow me to borrow a joke I read on this board that I have converted to suit my own ends...
Did you hear about the fire at the A&M library? Yeah, it burned both books.
Thank you, thank you, and good night. Tip your waitress.
