Need another Avett Album

Sort of a new fan here.
All I own is "I and Love and You". Saw them in Ithaca and was impressed. What is the next CD I should buy? Im' looking for something similar to I and Love and You....nice and upbeat.

Emotionalism would probably be the closest, but it is still different. Each album is different. And great.

Get em all. You'll love each one!

Changing the plans that I’ve been setting on
I’m scared by the way that my life is getting gone
I'd recommend The Gleam and The Second Gleam as your next purchases. But honestly, eventually you will own them all. It's an addiction. (but in a good way)

considering what you are asking for I would recommend (in this order)
The Second Gleam
Mingonette
Emotionalism
The Gleam
once you get into those pretty good you'll be ready for the fun waiting for you in
Carolina Jubilee
Four Thieves Gone
and all the rest

Gimmee some ol' fashion, foot-stompin Carolina Jubilee or 4 Thieves Gone any day....
You want "upbeat", you can't go wrong with those. Or Mignonette, for that matter.
IMO, The Gleams are great, but not necessarily up beat.

If I could only own one, it would be Mignonette hands down.

Mignonette!!
I don't consider "I and Love and You" to be especially upbeat. I think the Gleams are closer too it as far as overall tone.
I started with it and "Emotionalism and when I got 4 Theives it took me a while to warm up to it. Very different. I don't have Mignonette yet (on order) so no comment there.

AK Kate...I can't wait for you to own Mignonette. Please report back! I go back and forth about which album is my favorite, but it may be Mignonette. Love it so.
When I said Emotionalism is the closest, I was really taking into consideration that is has the more polished production of the full length albums.

Mignonette hands down and then i would say live vol2 that has a great set songs.

...you're a car, you're a red Trans Am, you're 90 miles an hour...
If I HAD to choose one, I'd probably choose Mignonette. But I agree with stirred that based on what you said, I'd go with Emotionalism. For most upbeat, yeah, I'd probably go with Four Thieves. I LOVE the Gleams (like there's one I don't love), but I wouldn't consider them to be upbeat. When I'm feeling introspective, the Gleam is usually the first one I go for.

Wish me luck, I know you think I'll need it.

Ditto on Mignonette, hands down my favorite too.

I gave to you my ugly brown coat, you made it pretty when you put it on....
Migonette.
I'm a "new" fan also but I didn't her the I&L&Y album first. The person that shared with me, shared if its the beaches, and Salina and I was hooked. It's like I've liked them forever cause everything about them (their lyrics, beliefs, etc) hit so close to home. I had to get them allllllll. and I did! haha

"A country girl can't be made out of anybody here, don't touch it, it loves you not."
I guess I need to get Mignonette ASAP. I'm sort of a newbie. I have both Gleams, 4 Thieves Gone, Emotionalism and I and Love and You. Sounds like I'm missing out. I love these boards. Thanks!
So based on this thread, I ordered Mignonette. I'm addicted to I and Love and You, Emotionalism and the Gleams. I like most of 4 Theives.
Now maybe I'm chemically unbalanced this week or something but I'm just not getting Mignonette. Compared to all the other ones, it's kind of bland. Not one song grabbed my heart and squeezed. Every other album had more than one song that stopped me in my tracks.
I'll keep trying though, given all the love it got here, I might be broken.

Give Please Pardon Yourself a few more listens!

Yeah, At the Beach, Please Pardon Yourself, and PG at the Airport are probably my favorite on Mignonette.
PG from cedarlane, enough said

"But I can't go back, and I don't want to,
'cause all my mistakes, they brought me to you"
The New Love Song! And SSS!
Sundayrehab - If I could only own one, it would be Mignonette hands down.
couldn't agree more

Well Locust, Mount Pleasant, Concord.... LETS GOOO!
Please Pardon Yourself, Pretty Girl at the Airport, Pretty Girl from Cedar Lane... Salvation Song!!!!!
gosh I'm going to listen to Mignonette right now. Some of the most beautiful music I have ever experienced.
Mignonette is phenomenal. I'm sure it'll come to you once you give it a few listens.
AK Kate...it took me a least a dozen listens to really fall in love with Mignonette. It's one of my favorites now, meaning I always have like 3 favorites at any given time and Mignonette is always part of those three. You're not broken! Maybe you're just not experiencing anything that can connect you with these songs right now...but I'm sure you will with time.
I say Mignonette because it's my favorite. I think TAB appeal to us because they are a little bit sad, and a little bit happy, just like real life. Most of their albums are a little of both. My advice is to just get them all. Eventually, you will anyway. Welcome to the phenomenon and emotional roller coaster called The Avett Brothers.

"Well, the stars felt weak, but they laughed with me, at a world where the lights go out."
oh goodness, that's almost painful to hear!
I'm sure it'll come to you...some of my all-time favorites: New Love Song, Pretty Girl at the Airport (I get emotional just typing those) definitely squeeze my heart.
And PG Cedar Lane, Swept Away, PPY, SSS, Salvation Song--oh man, it is so so so good.
yeah, give it a few more listens and as with any Avett song, the lyrics will get you, I'm certain. Sit by yourself, quietly, with headphones/earbuds and listen to the lyrics of Pretty Girl at the Airport.("To have your things and wait there for a plane ride/with no one there to sit and hold your hand in flight/but everyone I know out here is lonely/even those that have someone to lie beside at night.") I defy you not to cry. okay, maybe you have to be in a melancholy mood to begin with, but oh man, so good. At the Beach, Nothing Short of Thankful are great too, but mostly, two of their best live songs.
I love all their albums and have favorites from each, but this has the highest concentration.
Man, I'm embarrassing myself. Me and Mignonette need to get a room.....

you can use grooveshark to see what is on most of there albums and them decide
Mignonette is a great album for the sum of all its songs, but I'd have to recommend it to any TAB newbie for Salvation Song alone. That song is like the mission statement of this band and required listening, in my opinion.
If the songs aren't hitting, go YouTube search the live versions of some of them, they may strike you differently...and give you a crash course in how these boys got to where they are today, i.e. this vid of a ramblin' Nothing Short of Thankful http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ToxmNmWtZvw
I drank the kool-aid. PG at the Airport seriously just stopped me in my tracks and brought tears to my eyes.

Mignonette takes a few listens to really appreciate it, but the numbers of classics on that album is ridiculous.
Please Pardon Yourself will always be my favorite.
I love love love that video thank youuuuuuuu stirred :B

"For every year of knowledge gained, is a negative year I've earned"
Stirred, that video is amazing! Love that song! I've also really grown to love One Line Wonder in the past few days... had it in my head ALL DAY today.
