A NIGHT ILL NEVER FORGET..........
this may get lengthy but worth it. let me first say that i work in brazil and came up for the month of april to spend time with my ten year old son. took him to his first concert to see the avett brothers and dave matthews (charlotte). i just bought lawn seats for the two of us. didnt sit in the lawn. found a good spot around the side that was pretty close to the stage but outside the barrier of the covered pavillion seating. we watched the avett brothers kill it with their show, then this man walked up to me and said, "hey,...im the avett brothers father." and he proceded to show me his liscense to prove it. yepp it was him alright. he said he was going to see about getting us backstage. he cames back after a few minutes and says he cant cause security wont let him cause they are there with DMB. so he leaves and comes back a short time later and says "here, take these." it was his tickets for seats under the covered pavillion a few rows from the stage. at this point i just couldnt believe what was going on. i went on to explain that this was very special because im up to see my son and this was his first show and then this. he said take them and have fun. i couldnt stop thanking him. so we make our way to the front and find our seats. watch dave play for awhile. then this cute chic walks over and says she wants to take my son to the very front to see dave play. i had to stay back in my seat but kept my eye on my son. after dave finished up that song, they took a quick break. the drummer walks up to the front of the stage and points out my son to come over to the side. he hands him two drum sticks and says, "take care of these kid. do you like the drums?" my son said yes. and then made his way back to be with me. he was grinning from ear to ear. so we watched dave play on and near the end they took one more pause to throw out drum sticks and guitar pics and so forth. well one stick hit my son in the head and he dove to the ground to get it. so now he has three!!!! the show was over soon there after and i couldnt belive the night we just had together. so to go back to the beginning of my story,..........THE AVETT BROTHERS,.......if you guys actualy read this stuff,.........PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE, thank your dad for those tickets and a night my son and i will NEVER forget. all the stars were definitly aligned that night. THANKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

That's awesome. Thanks for sharing.
Wow, thanks for posting your story!! How kind of Mr. Avett. I'm so happy you and your son had such a wonderful and memorable night.
What a great story! So glad that you guys had an amazing time
Wow, he'll never forget that night.
Sheesh. That is awesome! I bet that is a night your son will always treasure.
Jim Avett is the man, one of the most genuine guys ever
Thats so sweet. What a great reunion with your son.
I too have seen Jim Avett's license! He showed it to me once a few years ago b/c I refused to believe he was who he said he was. He pulled me back "stage" (festival show, so it was just a roped off area) to watch the show with Mrs. Avett, and then gave me his Artist Pass (that was one of TAB's originally).
He sang along with every song, and was an extraordinarily proud daddy. Mrs. Avett and I talked about teaching, among other things. It was an awesome, personal experience with them: a true family.
I also met Bob's wife that night, too. Adorable girl!
i was right near the front and saw your son get those drumsticks! he was adorable and i thought it was really great that everyone made a path for him to get up to the stage when carter was giving drumsticks away.
i also met Jim Avett (kind of attacked him, actually) and Bonnie as well. i was completely over-zealous, but they were so kind all the same. i'm right there with you on never forgetting that night.
While I haven't had the chance to meet Jim yet, the interactions I've had with him over the internet show what a man of character he is. It's not hard to see where Scott and Seth got their humility, life understanding, and kind way from. It's at least partially because of the character the entire Avett family shows, that I am so happy to be able to share this band, their music, and their live shows with my daughter. I've said it before, but in a era where most musicians who our kids listen to on the radio have very little character, it's so great to find a band that has a bunch of it, to share with my kid. It's a bonus that she loves the music as much as I do.
man... good for you and your son... always love hearing good stories like this.... i'm with you on the most unbelievable trip of my life.... i was fortunate enough to go down and see my favorite two bands ( avetts and Widespread Panic) which already was a blessing in itself, last weekend.... long story short - i was fortunate to get backstage passes through the gracious gift of a friend that night and was able to hang out side stage with the avetts while watching my favorite band of all time.... needless to say it was a very surreal experience and one that i'll always remember as i know you and your son always will.......
I'll certainly pass on the thanks to Dad--I don't think he gets on the boards much (if ever). In fact, this is the first I've been on in a long while. Anyway, Dad pointed you out to us on our way out and it sounds like you had a grand time! My husband and I also passed our tickets along to some friends of friends--glad we can recycle and not let the good seats go to waste! We wished to "mingle" more with the crowds and visit with friends, but it proved to be a bit difficult with three children in tow! Nevertheless, we had a great night--it was a fabulous show.
Thanks to you all for your support of my brothers and our family.
snakey....cute username!
We were humbled by Jim Avett Friday night when he came up to my husband and I halfway through the set and thanked us for being there and being so into the Avett Brother's music - if you read this, Mr. Avett, your exact words could be a future song - brought tears to both of our eyes. Then, to make our night even more amazing, 2 different sets of Dave Matthews fans came up to us to ask if WE were related to the boys...they could not believe that just fans would be that into the music like we were! My husband saw the Avetts at Bonnaroo and has always told me he hated that I was not there to see it as it as he thought they were the best ever....in his mind, Friday night surpassed it with the set - short as it was!!! THANKS FOR AN AMAZING NIGHT!
It's so great to hear these stories, I love The Avett Brothers primarily for their music, but the fact that the Avetts themselves (Scott, Seth and the whole family, of whom I've met none but Scott and Seth, but like Tim, have had some internet interaction with Jim) plus Bob, Joe, Justin, Dane, and everyone else associated are so kind and down to earth is just above and beyond and another reason to love and respect them.
What a great experience for you and your son!
