Here they are. I think I have a few errors in there, so correct me where you think I've gone wrong.
November Blue
If I weren't leaving, would I catch you dreamin’
And if I weren't gonna be gone now, could I take you home
And if I told you I loved you, would it change what you see
And if I was staying, would you stay with me
And if I had money, would it all look good
And if I had a job now, like a good man should
And if I came to you tomorrow, and said let’s run away
Would you roll like the wind does, baby, would you stay
My heart is dancing, to a November tune
And I hope that you hear it, singing songs about you
And I sing songs of sorrow, because you’re not around
See, babe, I’m gone tomorrow
Baby, follow me down
I don’t know why I have to, but this man must move on
I love my time here, didn’t know ‘til I was gone
November shadows, shade November change
November spells sweet memory, the season blue remains
November spells sweet memory, the season blue remains
Your yellow hair is like the sunlight, however sweet it shines
Bit by the cold of December, I’m warm inside your smile
Oh lady, tell me I’m not leaving, you’re everything I dreamed
I’m killing myself thinking, I’ve fallen like the leaves
I’m killing myself thinking, I’ve fallen like the leaves
hmm...the first two lines consistently sound like "weren't", not were, to me. Also I think the fourth line is stayin' not stayin in. Lastly I think the line is "Oh lady" not "Old lady" in the last verse. IMHO, just my $0.02, etc
It's gotta be weren't in both lines. The song is about leaving, the decision is made: "this man must move on". He's imagining what he would see/have if he could stay. To have "were" in one line and "weren't" in another would be contradictory. I think, anyway. As Dale said it's not a big deal, in fact I like parsing their lyrics, finding new meaning.
I'll change to weren't for both lines, as for now. I've been sold, and I enjoy the debate and reasoning. I've got a few more lyrics, too, so maybe I'll post another song this week. I've had some questions on others as well.
That sounds like great fun for word nerds like me. How about "The Lowering" I'd like to get a bettter hold of that one. Also 3S's; I've heard that's about three different views on love; I just havent identified them distinctly. Another: "At the Beach"
"We can walk dear, the pier is farther then it seems"; does that make sense?
anyway I'll stop. These discussions all deserve their own threads, I'm ready when all of you are.
By the way, it is def. "were" in the first line and "weren't" in the second line.
"If I weren't leaving, would I catch you dreaming", doesn't make sense. "If I were leaving, would I catch you dreaming", makes more sense because she would dream about him if he left rather then if he didn't leave. Makes more sense, right?
Here's the next installment, although the end gave me fits. A something something teenager...
At The Beach
I know that you’re smiling, baby, I don’t even need to see your face
Sunset at the shoreline, we are laughing, breaking up, just like the waves
Are you feeling, feeling, feeling like I’m, feeling like I’m
Floating, floating, up above that big blue ocean
Sand beneath our feet, big blue sky above our heads, no need to keep
Stressing from our everyday life, on our minds,
We have got to leave all that behind
Well, I have got a sister, and she has got a baby, with brand new eyes
And her daddy is an engineer, and they just took her to the sea for, the first time
Now they’re under, under, underneath a big umbrella
Summer, summer, summer time to help us forget, nine to fives
We have got to leave all that behind
I have, worries, to give to the sea
We can, walk dear, the pier is farther than it seems
Midnight at the shoreline, fireworks above us, a screaming bloom
They're sent by some teenager, and kid whoever you are, I am thanking you
Now we’re dancing, dancing, dancing with no music
What is happening, happening, happening and no feelings
Except this is right
We just had to leave all that behind
Wow what a debate! I decided it could not be that hard to decipher and went back to listen to the 3 versions I have of that song. Each one had me making up my mind differently. I give up ... come on guys enunciate!
As for At The Beach.. yes their sister's baby would have "brand new eyes" seeing everything the world has to offer for the first time. I am not sure I understand the confusion.
the nov blue lyrics dont seem that hard to decipher to me, he clearly says were, which makes the most sense. Watch the video that is linked under the extras page of this website, you can read his lips.
I think its hard to speculate what the lyrics mean and what makes the most sense. It might make the most sense to us, but they could have meant it as something totally different. I think the lyric is whatever we as individuals can find the most meaning in. I know im sort of contradicting myself, cause i was certain before that it said "were". But the beauty of music is finding meaning in a song no matter if its the same meaning as what somebody else finds in the song.
I believe there was a request for Three S's as well, so here's what I got.
Three S’s
I never thought I’d feel the way I do
When I’m in your arms
Ba da ba ba
Sing your melody to me
But if you want me to leave
I’d walk away from this old farm
Ba da ba ba
Baby, baby, there ain’t no cows left for milking
Baby, baby, there ain’t no chickens laying nothing
I’ll walk on anything for you
I’ll walk on anything for you
I’ll walk off on anything for you
I’ll walk off on anything for you
I was always told that I would find somebody
I could keep a promise for
Ba da ba ba
But it don’t mean a thing
To a broken-hearted man
I felt that way before
Ba da ba ba
Baby, baby, I don’t remember feeling that way
Baby, baby, and I owe it all to you
I’d take a nine to five for you
I’ll take that nine to five for you
I’d take a nine to five for you
I’ll work that nine to five for you
I’m convinced that’s nothings true
Just cause love worked out for you
Don’t impress me no more
Ba da ba ba
Words that don’t mean a thing to me
I’m a broken-hearted man
I got dreams but nothing to hope for
Ba da ba ba
Lady, lady, keep your distance I mean no good
Lady, lady, I’m broken-hearted and I think the world should
All be broken-hearted too
All be broken-hearted too
All be broken-hearted too
Ya’ll should be broken-hearted too
I’d like to give all my pain to you
If I could I’d give all my pain to you
Alrighty, quick question...which one is Scott and Seth? On the November Blue video on the Extras page...which one is at the very beginning in the back seat, he is also playing the guitar in the back seat. Hes my favoirte! Let me know...
well back to the Nov blue thing, Last night at Rittenhouse Square in Phila., I got through the star struck "pretty girls from philadelphia" and asked Scott what the words were (I felt like such a dork), but anyway he was as gracoius as always and said the first two lines were both weren't not were/werent. Mystery revealed.
I'll see them at the folk fest tomorrow, I wonder if there's anything else to clear up?
I am not totally sure of the lyrics for Indolence, but here is what I think the first few lines are....
"Well, I've been locking myself up in my house for some time now
Reading and writing, reading and thinking, searching for reasons, missing the seasons, the autumn the spring the summer the fall(there is something else here, but I am unsure what) the regulars come the regulars go there's no going in and there is no going out. Latches latch....
That is as far as I can get right now. I will have to listen to the version I have and see if I can decipher more...
Hey! I have seen TAB twice and am completly in love! They are coming back to Huntsville again in Feb. and hopefully bringing Four Theives with them. I can't wait to see them. At The Beach is a great song, especially the part about the baby's "brand new eyes". Can't wait to hear November Blue. Forgive my ignorance, but what CD is that on?
Thank heavens for ddenham, Taryn, and jmac! Finally, someone with sense, another who understands a southern drawl, and the chords I've been trying to figure out!

i agree with the above post, i have always thought in the first two lines they say weren't,
it seems to make more sense in the second line, "And if I weren't gonna be gone now, could I take you home"
so maybe its were in the first weren't in second
i definitely think both lines are very clearly "were", i think its perfect how he has it now
weren't
Not a huge deal, but it seems like weren't when they sing live.
were in the 1st line
wern't in the 2nd

Yes, I would love to see the lyrics for "At the beach." Is it...'my sister has a baby with brand new eyes'??? very confusing...

If he weren't leaving, he may catch her dreaming about plans for their future together. If he were leaving, she would be upset.

Thanks for writing these out and giving everybody else the chance to discuss. One small correction on sSs...I think its

It'd be awesome if you could memorize all the Indolence Rap lyrics and post. But, I'm guessing we are just going to have to wait for the cd.
Wanna hear something funny?
For the longest time, I thought "Would you roll like the wind does?" was actually, "Would you roll like the windows?"
Just imagine a really southern guy saying "windows" and I think you'll see my confusion. I was also the nerd singing "bathroom on the right" though...

I love this song as well. I'm wondering if any one knows or has a best guess at the guitar chords for it?
Here are the chords for November Blue

Hey Kris,
The studio version of November Blue is on "Country Was" but there's live versions on both "Live At The Double Door Inn" and "Live, Vol. 2."
Stick around & search the threads. There's a lot of great info here.
peace, Jason
Thank heavens for ddenham, Taryn, and jmac! Finally, someone with sense, another who understands a southern drawl, and the chords I've been trying to figure out!
Irishanglerdan had it on the money, why did the person below try saying lines were wrong? or did you change if after?
someone above the line from at the beach. "we can walk dear, the peir is further then it seems" makes no sense what so ever.
I hope you realize this thread is six years old.
Though that line from at the beach is a bit awkward, I wouldn't say it makes no sense.
