NPR to stream new album in its entirety on 9/22

For those purists that want to wait until the actual release date, don't listen to NPR on 9/22, when apparently they'll start streaming the album in its entirety. Read more about it here:

Ahhh. To listen or not to listen. I'll have to think about that in the coming weeks.

Nothing's good because nothing lasts. And all that comes, it comes here to pass.
I would voice my pain, but the change wouldn't last.
All that comes, it comes here to pass.

That's awesome. I might (probably will) listen.

I am pretty sure I won't be listening. My pc speakers are horrible. I'd rather have the first listen be on a good sound system. Thanks for the heads up, though! I'll als0 have to avoid any threads that pop up that day from people who do listen!!! Laughing out loud

Ahh, but it's just a waste of time.
Yeah it’s such a waste of time.

I definitely won't be able to resist! Although, with it being a major label release, and a highly anticipated one at that, I expect it to leak well before that date. And again, I probably won't be able to resist hearing it as soon as possible. Sorry, purists.

soooo I have decided to wait for the 29th considering the fact that I spent $101.03 on the deluxe box set and my first listen is gonna be with freaking dolby digital surround sound........but GAHHHHHHDD the temptation! i'm afraid i might be dissapointed listening to it on computer speakers. that's what happened with laundry room...then i popped it in the cd player and It was a whole different experience. that also happened with Wilco (the album) when it streamed early. its a HUGE difference.

I am listening.

Then on the 29th I am going to fininsh my download on ITunes then I am going to wait for the big ol set to arrive.

Smiles!

Do the best you can and that wont go unseen

I Can't wait to throw it on my record player!!!!!!

Whats a record player? Smiling

Scott mentioned that they might do a digital download of the charlotte show since the album will not be released then. He also said that they may play alot of the songs from the new album. Either way I can't wait...

think i'll wait for my vinyl or cd or the 8 track that comes in the deluxe box. in the car with the windows down or alone with my record player filling my house is the best ways to experience new music. especially new avett music!!!

i have patience that surprises even myself sometimes and i'll think i'll use it here Smiling

with love
eli

Hmm..not sure if I will. I told the guy at my local record store I would buy the vinyl when it comes out on the 15th(He is ordering the vinyl just for me). But that was before the deluxe box set came out.. I might buy the vinyl then and also buy the box.. :-/

That would be sweet!!

"a woman's heart runs on gasoline"

Totally gonna hold back...

I wont be able to listen................because ill be on my way to see them play live in Oxford, MS!

Hold back?!?!?! Not possible. I am so looking forward to what they've done with Tin Man, Skin and Bones, and The Perfect Space (not to mention hearing the others for the first time). I will listen, and enjoy, because they just get better with each listen! When the day finally arrives that I can pop the CD into my player and hear them through my fine system, I will be giddy!

And in my dreams I saw the future

Wait, is Skin and Bones going to be on it?!?!?!? Did I miss something!?!? I was under the impression it was very new and wouldn't be on it. I forget when and how I came to that assumption... If so which song is it?

i'm sooooooooo listening!!!!!!

WHATS A RECORD PLAYER?!!
haha
ha
ha.
UGH I haven't decided on this yet.
streaming album. OR wait a few more days until I receive the box set in the mail. Listen to the album in it's collectiveness. The way an album is meant to be listened.

This blog also mentions that the album will be available at all Starbucks locations.

I work at a Starbucks. I'll have to check into that, but if this album gets in my store, they'll be sold out within the first day. I will force people to buy it, or deny them their coffee.

Haha. They wont have a choice but to buy it.

I'm not sure about Skin and Bones, but the more I listen to the song we've been referring to as "The Dream Appointed", the more I think it might be "Head Full of Doubt, Road Full of Promise". I'm probably wrong, but it fits, I think.

I'll be listening. Afterall, if they are allowing it to be played NPR, I am sure they want us to hear it!

** oops ** I meant "Incomplete and Insecure," not skin and bones.

--
And in my dreams I saw the future

Oh alright.. I was about to flip out.. And i can see that blasto.. If any song we've heard is under a different title I would assume it to be that one.

"Incomplete and Insecure"...."Skin and Bones"....

Are we talking about Avett songs or my days in junior high?

Will you forget when we have paid our debts,
who did we borrow from, who did borrow from?

I'm not a fan of the corporate coffee shop, but I do like that they're targeting the NPR audience, as opposed to say the Hot Topic crowd. A little more refined and educated than the casual pop radio listener.
It'd be nice if it could just continue to grow forever via word of mouth, and it will, but this is definitely a new (and huge) step. Right now, seemingly no one knows about them. But Starbucks could lead to household name....Shocked !
I know I'm not the only one with mixed (but hopeful) feelings about all that.

Lots of targeted marketing is at play here...hopefully it will yield not just a successful album for the fellas but also lure the type of fans we grow to embrace and appreciate in our fan community, not the type we run away from or bash because of excessive beer spillage and woo-wooing.

We disagree often around here, but I think we can all agree that mutual respect and appreciation is a shared value in the Avett community (for those on stage and off). I just want to see that continue. I'll do my best to project that image going forward and hope the same desire in the minds and hearts of others spreads as rampantly as the band's success. It can be a positive and contagious thing not just in our lives and our music, but in the world as well, and I'm all for that.

I know that may sound corny, but it's really what I want. Goodness to grow. For everyone. The Avetts' music makes my world a whole lot better, and I know the same is true for us all.... . . . And It Spread.

A long long long time ago I bought a CD from at Starbucks and brought it to the counter.

The girl said "Jack Johnson! Who's that?"

I said "You will hear about him soon enough"

I have a feeling this story might be repeated with the Avetts.

"Scott mentioned that they might do a digital download of the charlotte show since the album will not be released then. He also said that they may play alot of the songs from the new album. Either way I can't wait..."

Bobzimerman and I both had those suggestions. Makes you think we both kinda put that in Scott's ear. Sticking out tongue

I didn't think anything you had to say was corny.

We all know they are probably right on the brink of exploding.
and the album being available at Starbucks is surely exciting.
However, it feels bittersweet.

I heard Head Full of Doubt at the Tampa soundcheck, it's definitely not dream appointed, and it's definitely a great great song! I think they're saving some of the best ones until the album comes out : )

Spoiler Alert!!!!

Don't read if you don't want to know more about the new songs!

Yeah I saw that they played both in the setlist thread and thought "There goes that idea". I'll be eating my humble pie now. I seem to be doing that a lot lately...

Not listen? Impossible. There is no way I would have enough self-restraint to not listen even if I wanted to wait, which I don't, so it is a moot question for me. I'm very excited.

I may be the only one on this board who hasn't yet......but I still have not listened to the studio production of "Laundry Room" or "Kick Drum Heart". :0

I gave to you my ugly brown coat, you made it pretty when you put it on....

kylemccarthy, i just threw up a little when you made that comparison with jack johnson. i realize you're not comparing the music, but still. Barf!

it's streaming right now:

For all the hardest roads we have to walk alone.

Hahaha, and we are officially simultaneous-posting nerds, Jen!

Question: Will you listen to it now, or wait till 9/29?

Maybe that's why we get along so well. Smiling
Gonna wait. soooo hard.

Oh, how wonderful! I completely respect the decision to listen to the album when it comes in the mail, but I'm facing a looong night of homework, and I can't think of a better soundtrack to all the studying than the new album! I actually teared up a little when I saw that it was up. (Not sure if the tears were from sleep deprivation or love of TAB. Possibly both. Smiling )

I predict you won't be getting much of your homework done. Seriously.

listening now

Yeah, I'm getting that feeling, too, Angischy. But this music is making me so happy, I think I could stay up all night and head to class in the morning without my paper, but wearing a goofy grin.

I apologize in advance to the purists out there and wish that I had your self discipline, but I had to listen.

I haven't heard all of it yet, but I think it's safe to say this album is gorgeous. The songs are so eloquent and music . . . it's like nothing else out there (comparisons to the Beatles, early Elton John, and Billy Joel be, pardon me, damned). Hearing the songs in the context of the entire album changes their sound and enhances it.

I hope it sounds this amazing to new ears, but if the listener is familiar with their work it sounds so rich.

And yes, I am 100% giddy about this right now, and may the feeling never go away!

YAY for early listening and I can sneak by with NPR at work too *SCORE*

"The day will come, the sun will rise, and we'll be fine"

Okay...I have officially caved...but no regrets yet...and I am still sooooo looking forward to the rest of the chapter videos and getting the box set delivered!

no apologies necessary...those of us that are waiting feel more dumb than disciplined right about now. enjoy the giddiness!
