Right here.
30 with two kids

and a wife. Forgot about her for a minute...Laughing out loud

33, no kids but does a younger boyfriend count? I hope not, that would be gross.

Ain't it like most people, I'm no different, we love to talk on things we don't know about.

I am 37, with a 3 year old and a 14 year old stepson.

Man o Man you people are OLD!

forgot to mention.......i have been married for nearly 15 years and our daughter is 7.

regardless, i have a notion that we may be the "old" people at the show.

Nah...statistically speaking, you'd only be a standard deviation or so away from the median age of a lot of shows, I bet.

Ahem, thirty-somethings are not, ahem, old. Neither are fifty-year-olds! You have to be well beyond the age of our dear Grand Poobah to even think about calling yourself truly old.

Unlike many other shows, I've seen all ages at Avett shows, from 5 to 75 - and probably beyond, but no one looks old when they're having the time of their life.

People who live right never get old. Who cares anyways? Age is just a number, and anyone could be taken from us at any minute. Live it up and love life and each other while you can.

Aiey? What's that you say? Speak up, would ya. Why, I remember when I was your . . . what the ?!

I'd rather shoot it out, bygod, than let them watch me hang!

I thought this thread would be for seasoned citizens. Then I find the initial poster is the ripe age of 37! Whippersnapper! I turned 60 last September which is an age - despite Angi's kindness - which must be recognized as "old".

And that's OK. I have had two goals consistently before me through the years: to be old and wise. I am glad to say I have accomplished at least one of them. Sure I have aches and pains that don't go away, but I also am a better person than I was in my 20's and 30's.

he who cherishes understanding prospers. Proverbs 19:8

Mr Z, call yourself old if you wish (hey, you've earned those years and the right to call yourself whatever you wish), but I've seen that sparkle in your eye and there's alot of young in you, too. I hope I still have that energy and joy in my life when I'm as o-l-d in numbers as you claim to be Eye-wink

good work.......to those of you older than me. the only reason i even mentioned age is due to the ....ahhh never mind. i forgot what i was trying to type or unable to put my thought into print.

good to see the range of the age at the shows is large.

33 whoopie!

Back in the day when we had the ability to do polls on the site (sometimes a very annoying power), a poll was done on the age demographic of the board. The over 50 crowd wasn't the largest but certainly held its own. I would mortgage my house to bet the median has dropped considerably this year.

That's a really good point, Bob. I think I've only been to one show post-album-release, and there were definitely quite a few younger folks there than at other shows.

i'm 38. single. cats, not kids.

...and bobz, you are definitely 'old' if you get an aarp magazine delivered to your house Eye-wink
shall we call you the grand-pa poobah?? j/k! in all honesty, i would have thought you were 10 yrs. younger than you say...you def. don't look 60.
i bet that beautiful wife of yours is what keeps that sparkle in your eye!

I'm 45, and coming up on my 25th wedding anniversary.

My wife and I are both 33. Our boss/daughter is 4.

guess I am still young although I feel old...

wife and I are 28 (12 years together this April), boss/daugther (I hear ya mentonelee) is almost 2 (going on 15)
2 dogs, the cat will be here soon if the boss keeps pushing for one!

I was standing in line at Urbana behind a couple that had kids my age (34). They were very self-conscious about their age...commenting that they were certain they would be the creepy old fogeys (fogies?) in the crowd. Not so. As the line grew, so did the intergenerational-ness. I think that's purdy cool, myself.

BTW, Grandpa Poobah, log out and check your PMs.

I wasn't meaning I was old so much as I was answering the question about the family. Isn't 30 still the new 20?

Sorry to my wife for forgetting her on my mad dash for 25...

32- one baby (21 mos), two dogs, and a husband of almost eight years.

I realized at the NYE show, that I'm too old to go to (big) shows with younger fans. I wanted to sit, listen, and discuss song choices with my sister. I also wanted to go right back to the hotel to see my husband and baby. I didn't want to go out, drink more, or anything- just go to sleep.

Man, on man. I can be an old bitty sometimes.

Ah well. Things change, don't they?

Hmmmmmn, 48 revolutions of the sun...about a month to go in the next one...nearly 25 years, legally recognized with the same man...legally adult daughter, son of driving age, 2 live in cats and a stray glaring it's way in...so glad that I have the many pleasures of The Avett's late in life...I wouldn't be able to haunt them as I do, if I hadn't already paid my dues in all of those other leagues...

57 this year, been with the same beautiful lady for 43 years and married to her for 35 years this August. One son who is resposible for introducing us to the Avetts in '05. One daughter and son-in-law whom I drug to their first Avett show and now they can't get enough. One golden retriever who thinks she is the Queen of the family.

I'm almost as old as Mr. Zimmerman, almost as wise and much better looking. He is, however, a much better song writer and musician than am I. Both of our wives deserve a medal of honor and perserverance.

Please talk slowly. I don't hear good anymore.

34 with three boys... Been a fan for 7 years now. All of my boys love the Avetts and pretty much anything with a banjo period.

David, you are correct on the quality of our mates - who are MUCH younger than us. I wish we could play and write together. I think we would both be encouraged - as steel sharpens steel. The measure of our wisdom is in our Father's heart. The measure of our attractiveness is in the generous hearts of our aforementioned spouses.

--Glad to hear I am not alone in the 50+ crowd. Just hit 57 and my wife and I are meeting our daughter in downtown Charleston tonight at the Music Farm to hear a band called Crowfield. Our kids keep our spirits young with their love of good music. She turned me on to the Avetts and unlike a lot of shows was made to feel like I belonged. Guess it pays off to raise your kids on good music. Mine were raised on Dylan,Dead ,Beatles and they in turn have exposed us to so much new great music. ....BTW- AARP ain't such a bad magazine.

We also raised our girls on Dylan, the Beatles, Neil Young and Joni Mitchell. However, we introduced them to TAB, Langhorne, HGTR and PF and Mo. And they are sweet enough to admit it.

AARP? There we have a difference of opinion.

good to see the many individuals here that have real world responsibilites....the only reason i asked the original question, is due to the fact that times will arise and it is good to hear advice from others. nothing against those without responsibilites.

It is funny but the older I get the less real world responsibilities there are. It is like you go through this tunnel of responsibility from after college until your kids are done with school. Lots of learning along the way.

Cmon Mark, AARP may not be Paste or even Rolling Stone but it is as least as good as AAA magazine.. LOL..

1 month from 33. I am growing backwards with time though! Eye-wink
No human kids, no wife... just a lovely, amazing (female) partner and fur-kids.

Came to the boards wondering the exact same thing. My wife and I are 34 (2 kids) and are going to the Indy show this weekend. Sounds like we will be near the top end of the age range but at least we are not alone, good to know.

34 is nowhere near the top end

Wow, great topic OP. 35, M, no kids yet. I look back on the 20's like, WTF was I thinking (like when I jumped off the Melbourne Causeway for fun)? CoffeeBomb, can you please tell me how to "live right"? I need to know. Being in your 30's is like being in your 20's except your paying student loans instead of blowing them, having kids instead of being one, and cooking with herbs instead of smoking them, hehe, well, that one still lingers for many, and rightly so.

i'm just going to say how ironic it is that the other day,
i received an invite for membership to AARP.

...ok. i got it. what goes around, comes around.
sheesh.

Ok, I kind of feel like I'm trespassing on this thread, but I wanted to represent for my mom! I took her to her first TAB concert the day after her 56th birthday, and she absolutely loved it. There's no age limit on the appreciation of sheer, unadulterated musical talent.

Also, I totally steal her AARP magazines and read them. They put some interesting stuff in there!

You know, guys, I like this thread. It has a nice lightness to it.

My TinMan and I have really enjoyed our 30's so far. But Student loans do suck.

Other topics are just so but this one has comraderie to it. Lots of Love Avett Nation.

well I'm 28 with a girlfriend and a fur kid as well, age is all relative anyway. See my quote below... I think we're all on the right track with our love of the avetts!

35 but I will never mature Smiling

Do the best you can and that wont go unseen

30 in july. Oooh, maybe we can get them to do a second, more mature version. It would have to include student loans & kids to support. Ok, maybe not. That does sound very fun.

it delights me to see that 33 is a popular age. it's been the first of a long line of scary ages for me to turn this year. makes it a little less scary to be surrounded by several happenin' folks.

44, married for 20 years (as of 2 days ago) 2 children, one of whom is in college. Life is getting better all the time...honestly, I would not want to go back to any age. Mostly, it's about taking care of daily responsibilities, enjoying the family....and every now and again having a total blast at a TAB show!

...where nothing is owed, deserved, or expected...and your life doesn't change by the man that's elected...

Glad to see this post kept alive.
Looks like early to mid thirties is mean age but glad to see there is a good sampling of over 40's and 50's.
A true testament to the quality and timelessness of the poetic music..

32 with 6 kids...yes I know, it's a lot and no, I didn't start when I was 12. I have an 11, 9, 7, 5, 3 and 1 year old. And yes, they all belong to my husband and I who started dating when I was 16. Yep, think that sums it up.
