Old Settlers Make Up Show 10/16/11

It was my first show and it was so great. I'm not sure how these reviews go but I'll just say that they didn't play all the songs I wanted to hear but it didn't matter because every song they played was great. I definitely missed Bob though. That's the only thing that would have made the whole thing complete.

We ended up getting great spots. I was in front of Seth's mic about 3 rows back from the stage. Can't wait to see them again.

If anybody was able to compile a set list for the show I'd like to see it. I was gonna keep track and then I started jumping around and singing loudly.

Edit: I just saw the set list in the "setlists" board so never mind on that. If anyone else was there what were your thoughts on the show. I was also wondering how that crowd compared to usual shows.

I was probably right beside you... Stubbs was a great spot for the Avetts (albeit a litle hot). The crowd was the most respectful Avett crowd I've ever been a part of. Scott even mentioned something to that effect after the show. Everyone was perfectly silent throughout many quiet, intimate moments (even for the David Mayfield Parade).

Seth, Joe and Scott all came out about an hour after the show. They were SO gracious and pleasant. I asked Scott about the new album and Geraldine and he said the song was recorded and ready for an album. He gave me a complete answer, going on about how each song has so many different parts and that its hard to finish songs because you keep wanting to improve on them. He was sincere and looked me right in the eyes while answering. So cool. David Mayfield and his band all hung out for a while too. A perfect finish to a perfect 3 night run.

Perhaps we were right beside each other. I was wearing a Rangers cap and a black Texas Tech Shirt. We were all so tired that we forgot about there even being a possibility of hanging around to meet the band.

It was a really fun crowd, fun setlist, and an awesome venue (although yes, a bit warm for his Oregon girl!). Had a great time, and enjoyed the obvious love between the David Mayfield Parade and the Avett Brothers. David came out for Sligh Figure of Speech the last two nights, with last night trying to lift up Scott, which ended up with them both tumbling over...great moment.

Old Settlers did a great job with this...I was very impressed with their organization with getting us our wristbands. They really seemed eager to please people.

It was great meeting all of the TX boardmember out there. I was beside Bert and his lovely wife at this show, Little Man did an awesome job on the setlists each night for us, and Knucklehead, we had much fun with you. Awesome group of Avett fans down south!

David with Scott was hilarious. Scott dancing and goofing with David was pure joy. Loved meeting all you folks. I was in front of Seth beside chrissydee. There was someone behind us who was blown away by seeing David for the first time. I LOVED hearing that. He is such a gifted singer, songwriter, and performer it's so great to see someone's reaction for the first time. This being the last of a three day run, it felt like watching a show with family since we seemed to meet up with the same crew each night. Those are moments you don't forget.

The day couldn't have worked out any better. After being up close in dallas we had accepted the fact that we could not get to Austin in time for spots in the front of the line, because our baby sitter couldn't get to our house early enough. Our baby sitter for Sunday night was our guest for the fri show, it was her first Avett show and she loved it. Well I guess she then understood why we wanted to get there so early, because she called my wife and said she would be there 2 hours early. So we kissed the kids said our good by's and started the drive from Dallas knowing that we had a chance to chance to get there befor wristbands would be handed out. When we arrived at Stubbs just before 3:00 and there was a handful of people there and like Shawna said it was like hanging out with family. Before wristbands were handed out my wife and I grabbed a BBQ sandwich from Stubbs. We could hear sound check from the room we were in, I told my wife that I thought the stage was right out side the door of the room we were eating in. So I check to see if it was locked. It was wide open! So we hung out on the deck overlooking the stage and enjoyed a song from sound check.

The show was just as described above. DMP was a wonderful opener and the set Tab played was full of my favorites that have been mentioned already. Knuckelhead hit it on the head when he said this was the most respectable crowd he had been a part of. There was a group of teen age boys behind us and I'm not real understanding of most teenage boys behavior at concerts but we got along great. We talked after DMP and they seemed like young men with good heads on their shoulders. When I say respectful, I don't mean quiet they knew when to sing, scream and when listen.
I enjoyed meeting Shawna and Chrissydee and seeing Little Man and Wesley again. I'm sure more people I spoke to were board members but I don't do well with names. We hung out with a group of people about 20 yrs outside our demographic most of the day in line and had a blast, im sure my wife remembers you're names but again I don't do well with names, so if you're on here let me know. Y'all were a ton of fun and very complimentary to both me and my wife. My wife regretted forgetting to get contact info for 2 lady's behind us, that we had a conversation with about getting campsites together for next years Old Settlers. If you're on here pm me, the kids loved it last year and more kids can only make it better. I'm sorry we missed the group photo after the show. I saw most of the group by the bus and had plans of dropping our bag off at the room and coming back down but sleep got the best of us.

Hi guys, i have gotten on these boards occasionally for years to check concert reviews or remember a setlist, but have never commented.

Shawna, it was me who was so blown away by David Mayfield...i remember you saying I should get his CD. After having babies and being "outta the loop" for a few years, its been nice to get back into live music the past year or so! I absolutely LOVED him (and the rest of the band...the fiddle player is amazing).

We had a wonderful time, The only downer was that we had to leave rather quickly after the show (early flight back home to NC the next AM) so I couldn't get an autograph for my son for his birthday (he just turned 6 and is quite the Avett fan). Other than that? Perfect night.
