The opening act for the CD Release Show

This guy, Brett Dennen, seems like an interesting, very socially conscious, artist. Is anyone on the board a big fan? I would like to know more about him. I think he will be a great opening act.

i've seen brett twice and loved him both times. i was very excited to see him listed as the opener. he's got a nice laid back groove. you can tell that he loves playing his music, which is always a treat in an artist i think. here's a few videos from the last time i saw him in atlanta at the variety playhouse. (first time i shot video, so really aren't the best, but they get the point across.)

I know that he's a big dude. I bumped into him after he played with the Avetts at NC State. I really think that he was like 6'7, I guess thats not really what you wanted to know about him, but I was a little shocked.

I like Brett Dennen a lot and cant wait for the cd release show.. Hes a former camp counsler, was singing to the kiddies in the california foothills. Check out...( Darlin do not fear, Just like the Moon, When I go, San Fransisco, The one who loves you the most).....real good stuff. Should be a great show !!!

he makes some good music. very talented song writer and I think he will go well with the avetts.

I saw him play at that NC State show too, and maybe it was due to my lack of patience, but I wasn't particularly impressed. In fact, it's probably a result of my lack of patience...it happens sometimes before the Avetts hit the stage. Maybe I'll feel differently this time around.

Ohhhh, I agree. I was not impressed at the NC State show. I did not remember that I had seen him there. But, like you said that was a weird night and I don’t think I will judge him from that show.

I like Brett! Although I've never seen him live, so that may be different. I heard him for the first time on an episode of House... this awesome song called "Ain't No Reason". I put the tv on pause, went to go look up who that was, and he's been in heavy rotation in some form ever since. As with most artists (except the Avetts and maybe 1 or 2 other bands, lol) some stuff is hit or miss with Brett, but overall I think he's great. "Ain't No Reason" still remains my favorite song of his, although he does have a catchy new one called "Make You Crazy". I'm looking forward to seeing if he translates well live on stage.

I downloaded his album on a whim, and I listened to it pretty hard for the first few nights while I worked on my computer. He doesn't blow me away, but a nice listen from what I have heard. I may get his other stuff when I need something new.

I've never seen him live, but I really like both his albums. His music is pretty laid back and simple. Kinda like Jack Johnson, but folksier (is that a word??). He won't blow you away, but that's not his style. I think he aims to provide some chill music that will make you think and he does that well. I'd love to see him paired with TAB when they come to KY.

Love his music...don't care for his politcal views.

haha wyson, word.

love his political views, like his music a lot...i actually prefer him live to recorded. no, i wasn't blown away by his set, but it's a lot of fun anyway...i likened it to a summer's evening on board a smart and socially-conscious cruise ship. very dancey and groovy. can't wait to see him as an opener!

and yes, he is kind of giant. and ginger. Smiling

really, who doesn't love a ginger?! personally i liked his music more after seeing him live, knowing he had the skills to back it up if you will.

Gingers haha. The Detroit Red Wings have a disturbing amount of gingers and day walkers. I hate the Red Wings.

Lets go Pens!!

Never easy opening for the headliner in their home town. let alone the Avetts in Charlotte !!!! That said I saw him in Atlanta and I really enjoyed his set.. Soft original voice, lot of guitar picking and good songwriter. Tough spot...LOL but I'll be routing for him.
