Paste's 20 Best Live Acts of the Decade

The boys ranked #13 on the list. Personally, I would rank them much higher (top 5 at least). But the blurb about them is very nice so check it out:

That's awesome! And a pretty good list.
"Whether it’s a crowd of thirty or three hundred (or even more, given the year they’ve had)" Talk about WAY more than 300!!!
Yeah, I'm not sure some of those bands that are in front of TAB belong there.
bleh U2

decide what to be and go be it.
The Boss? I'll pass. Saw him at "the Bonnaroo" last year. Wasn't too impressed.
That is very cool. Of course being extremely biased, I would absolutely rate them much higher, but being on this list is very impressive for sure. The thing about a few of those acts (Of Montreal, Flaming Lips) they rely so much on flare and 'show' that putting the Avetts on there is more impressive. They don't rely on anything but the passion of their performance. They don't need freaking confetti or costumes and makeup to make it a 'great' show....I love the line about how they play 'like their lives are on the line.'
Yeah, U2? Give me a break.

1978 flew with Walter Egan in Aerosmith's helicopter to CAL JAM @ Ontario Airport, got to meet the guys of Heart backstage. This was pretty awesome. He was friends with Fleetwood Mac.
Don't knock Bruce!
Sorry Taryn, I guess he's just not for me (although I do enjoy his music). The set was kinda preachy and he didn't play any of the songs I actually knew (you know the popular ones). But I'm glad to say that I got to see him at least once. Wasn't necessarily knocking him, but just don't think he necessarily belongs on the list.
Well I haven't even seen him, but sometimes I have to represent my NJ pride!
And I know he's been playing sets of full albums lately and I wish I was able to go to one of them. Don't worry, I'm not offended, just joking with you!
I knew it was in good fun
But I had to clarify in case someone was truly upset that I dared to speak against the Boss
"Not that you’d really want to, ‘cause these boys sing so darn pretty. "
Who could disagree with that?!
This article will now serve as evidence for convincing my bff to go to an Avett concert with me!
bragging rights competition:
i've seen 9/20. go!
Only 4 for me.

Ain't it like most people, I'm no different, we love to talk on things we don't know about.
ive seen 6/20. i could have seen more on that list but they were at bonnaroo and i had other important acts to see. ive seen, TAB, MMJ, the flaming lips, wilco, the decemberists and radiohead.

While it's nice that the bros. made the list, I gotta say I'm pretty disappointed with it otherwise. Namely, that the Boss isn't number 1, and Arcade Fire is. Blargh.
Springsteen busts his ass every night and has written some of the best songs of our time. Where is the love??
Freaking Arcade Fire, holy jeez.
For real, how can someone disagree with a performance like this (by the way, I know that people actually can): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mfzov0Cq90o
or who can disagree with this:

(Yes, Rosalita comes in TWO parts.)
My first two Springsteen shows both happened this year...changed my life. I probably won't ever see anything like it again, but I hope I do.
Also, his pre-concert music included an Avett song. I believe it was Go To Sleep.
I must not be hip enough to read paste, because i haven't seen 90 % of those bands live. Though I totally agree with Radiohead. I was lucky enough to be front and center for their last Charlotte show and it was mind blowing to say the least.

I've seen 10... Not too shabby. I wouldn't have thought it would be that many

There's only one thing here worth hoping for.
I've seen 6 of the 20. Flaming Lips put on a hell of a spectacle. Would love to catch Radiohead and Arcade Fire one day.
Tom Waits is the man. If anyone is interested in hearing what he sounds like live - He just released a double live cd which has recordings from his last tour, "Glitter & Doom". I attended two of the shows on that tour and they were more than incredible.

Hey tarynhayduke,
Here's another Bruce video to add to your NJ pride (It's a Tom Waits cover):

PGfromAtlanta, I agree with you about the show the boss put on at bonnaroo. we went back to camp once he brought up santa; but i would still listen to him any day of the week.
lol...I'd forgotten that we got to hear "Santa Claus is Comin to Town" in the middle of June. I think it was over for me when he said "How's everyone doing out here at the Bonnaroo?". Sorry Bruce, no article needed
hahaha my friends and I were walking to go see Bruce and heard "Santa Claus..." and we were like uh what the....

I'm at 8, with most of those are in the top 10. And as much as I love TAB, it's hard to give the crown to anyone other than My Morning Jacket after their legendary Bonnaroo shows in the middle of the decade. TAB probably wins for 2007-on for me.
Dude, don't completely swallow the entire load with My Morning Jacket. Meaning, don't get completely caught up with what all these wannabe 'cool' DJ's are telling you that this band is so avant-garde and groundbreaking. They are substansial, but nothing more. Let's not get caught up in a couple of news-worthy festival performances here and there. This bad is nothing more and nothing less than a mediocre to sub-standard rock band. There it is.

'I wonder if this blade ever ran through someone's side'
I'm pretty disappointed by the omission of The White Stripes from this list. The amount of energy they put out for just 2 people is incredible. Their last 2 albums were pretty mediocre, but still. Jack White is a hell of a performer.
