I have no idea if this has been posted already or talked about...unfortunately, my search function on this board doesn't work at all. But after hearing PGFA live saturday night for the first time, I just got curious as to what all Seth has played during the "dear brother's ragged six string" interlude. Is This Love was beautiful, but I would love to know what else has been played! Anyone have any ideas? What have y'all seen?

Replies for this Board Topic
4 that I've seen:
Langhorne Slim's "Mary" twice
Tales of Coming News
Talkin' Blues
Pink Floyd's "Vera"
if you want to search, just use google and include site:www.theavettbrothers.com.
it works as well as, or better than, the search function.
however, I think this would be a tough topic to search!
I was wondering the same thing yesterday and found this vid from YurpleBliss featuring This Time Darling as the interlude. I was there but I didn't pay as much attention in those days so it was like seeing it for the first time.

Oh, I would love to see Mary!
And yeah, that sounds like a good idea. I'll try that from now on. Thanks!
I've seen Jessica Lea Mayfield's For Today.
CbusTrev, the video didn't work. But if it was a Darling song, I'm sure it was pretty. Have any of you heard the Live in Atlanta (2005) recording? The song Seth plays in there is SO good and I've always wondered what it was...
I've seen:
-This Time Darlin' (Social Distortion)
-Vera (Pink Floyd)
-Tales of Comin' News (Avett Brothers)
-For Today (Jessica Lea Mayfield)
I think the lyrics to the ATL show go like this...
"As I'm looking back on broken down dreams, heartaches, and memories that I have. I made it through some hard times, and come back a stronger man. But this time, darlin', it's just not the same"
Anyone recognize this?
Wow, chilixx, that's amazing you've seen Annapolis 5 times!
Only saw it once, and the interlude was Freight Train: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-2JKTVImi58
Just kidding! littledeadhead just answered my question, thanks!
bring it on home
and another sam cooke song that is slipping my mind
Sep315 - that is This time Darlin by Social Distortion
it was You Send Me
Ok, instead of trying the link, google "pgfa" and "this time darling". It'll be the first thing to come up.

David, that is quite the list!
What is "Broken Down Dreams"? I did some googling and didn't come up with anything that seemed definitive as an original source. Mostly it tries linking me to an Alicia Keys song of a different name.
Does anyone know where I can find the Annapolis video with the Social Distortion interlude? I love that song!
Oh sorry nvm...someone already posted it!
Is that instrumental Freight Train by Elizabeth Cotton?
Funny story is Freight Train was requested at Nicasio last year and Seth played it but after the show we ask Scott if they "get that request a lot" and he asked "what do we play on the album" and we said "nothing" and he said "oh, that's lame".
Maybe it's one of those had to be there stories?
blasto that song was This Time Darlin'. At the time I started that list I did not know it was a Social Distortion song. Josh you are correct it is Freight Train by Elizabeth Cotten. I made the corrections, Thanks!
I started a thread on this once, but I've done a Google search and can't turn it up again.
On May 16th, 2007, at Horizon Records in Greenville, SC, they did Irving Berlin's "What Will I Do?"

@ joshwobble...that story is really funny.
After spending a little time with Scott after Saturday's show I found he has a great sense of humor. He was crackin me up.
I would love to see or hear the audio of Seth singing "For Today".
yeah i remember this topic coming up before, but it would be extremely hard to search for....
I've seen a # but just don't have them all compiled... the coolest ones I've seen ( to memory) were November Rain - Guns N' Roses, Vera - Pink Floyd, and now Is This Love....
its always awesome to see what its going to be. i had no idea that it varied as much as it did.
I've seen Vera twice and Mary once. I cna't believe I've only seen that song 3 times live. I would have definitely thought more.
Before "Living of Love" was finished or titled, they played part of it within PGFA..It was at Ram's Head in Annapolis in '06. I remember thinking how gorgeous it was, so I asked Scott what it was after the show and he said it was still a work in progress and they didn't even know what it would call it yet. The following night they played in Baltimore and people were shouting "Say Love"! Scott was amused and made a comment about people requesting the song with no name. That was the coolest experience with PGFA for me for sure!
Heids--you've seen Mary twice. once at the Envoy record release (it was also the same day as Langhorne's record release and I think he'd stopped by the Envoy before the show--I wasn't there yet) and once in Ithaca. I know b/c there was major pointing. I <3 you.
I know what you mean, I feel like I've seen it more than 5 times. weird.
very cool, Ann, and once again I'm kicking myself for not being there. my cousin came to town to go to both those shows, but I didn't go with her--took me another year. grrrr. she's told me about the first time she heard Living of Love (that weekend) and how much she loved it.
Oh meant it the other way around - Mary 2X, Vera 1X. Whoopsadoodle. Man, the point needs to be taken out of retirement. It's gonna be in full effect in Oct.
I don't know how many times I've seen this song, but I'm surprised to see you gals have only seen it 3-5 times. It feels like at least 10 for me.
Time to resurrect a thread. I saw them do Danzig's Sistina at their first Eugene show in '06. Now I want to listen to every PGFA I can find so the list will grow. Perfect youtube time waster opportunity
Thanks for the resurrection Oly!
The most recent addition to the Annapolis interlude: "Everyday" by Buddy Holly done in Mesa AZ 10/21/11

Anybody know what song it was at the Clearwater show in March?
^I went back and found the thread, but no one knew then either.

thanks.. I have a video of it. I will try and post it later this weekend and see if anyone knows it... I'm off to Nashville now.. see ya'll later
At Pier 6 in Baltimore, they played Dylan's Just Like a Woman. As much fun as I've ever had at a concert -- I'm the one jumping and dancing in the front row.
