Where are the reviews by true Avett fans on the Charlotte DMB show. I have looked and can only find one review by Creative Loafing. This is eerily quiet. Did anyone attend? Was it a disaster or something? Have I somehow missed it all? Please someone respond.

oh no... i just figured other people would review.... myself? - i enjoyed it thoroughly.... In comparing the two shows that I've been to this tour ( Orange Beach / Charlotte) I gotta say that the Charlotte show was better... The "hometown" crowd was pretty evident as there were far more fans there to see the Avetts, than down in Orange Beach and the Avetts definitely fed off of that and put way more energy into their performance... only bad part was the size of the venue..... we are all pretty spoiled to get close to the avetts in smaller clubs or GA seating in shows.... but I was right behind the VIP Boxes for The Avetts set.... granted the sound was good and the show was great.... just a bit different is all
The Avetts are repeating an aweful lot of songs, which is completely understood - since they are trying to play more recent tunes that are really going to catch people's ears....
but yeah, all in all it was a lot of fun and it seemed that more and more fans were digging them as they rolled in for Dave Matthews....
hope this helps a bit
Thanks for the info. I'm glad they had a good turnout and you enjoyed the show. There has been an amazing lack of comment on the Verizon show, though.
I think you're right drew. I have definitely been spoiled by the smaller venues (Georgia Theater comes to mind). I loved the show at Verizon, but it wasn't as personal. I was on the lawn though, so that might have had something to do with it. Foot traffic, cigarette ashes, beer cans, etc...
Also, my patience for the crowd was stretched to the absolute limit when a group of girls tapped me on the shoulder (during Murder in the City) to ask me to take their picture. I mean, seriously?
Just a humble opinion from someone who often lurks and never posts.
I have intended to comment on the show, but haven't had the opportunity to just yet. We battled traffic (mentioned in another thread) and made it into the venue with about 5 minutes to spare before Dave stumbled out (and rather excitedly, for Dave that is) introduced the boys. Without rehashing the setlist, I thoroughly enjoyed the mix of old (I Killed Sally's Lover, Love Like the Movies !!) and new (Laundry Room etc). The Avett fans, while spread around the venue, definately showed the love and it was a great thing to be a part of.
Without turning this too negative, I would like to address the crowd I experienced for DMB. When we arrived, we noticed a kid about 18-20 years old laying down in the grass. Then we noticed a huge amount of vommit on the grass by him. He would wake up every few minutes, drink some water, dry heave, and pass out during the Avett set. As soon as DMB made the stage, he rallied, put on his shirt and rocked out. Good for him. Also as soon as DMB took the stage, our area of the lawn swarmed with guys and gals in matching uniforms (I'd rather not explain this. I think this board is smart enough to know what I'm hinting at) that hadn't been in for the Avetts (to each their own). My big problem with these people rushing our section is that there were plenty of us there in time to claim our seats. After several ridiculously wasted guys ran into either me or my girlfriend, we had had enough. I'm not a small guy (6'5" 220lbs), and these guys barely touched 6 feet, but I guess all the liquid courage had them wanting to start stuff with me for asking them to be considerate of others in their area. At least two girls in this group passed out or vomitted within the first 3 songs of DMB's set. We gave up and moved to the back of the lawn. There I counted 5-10 other people covered in vomit, receiving medical attention, or well on their way to that point. It was an overwhelmingly negative end to the night. I couldn't have been prouder to see TAB on that stage, but I'm just not sure these are the fans I want for them to pick up. I've defended DMB's fans for years, and I'm not sure I can do it anymore. I know that I only saw a small sample of people, so I am trying not to pass judgement on the entire crowd. But that is hard for me to do, as my experience was so negative. I could obviously go on for a while, but my damn hands hurt! (And I'm tired of typing the word "vommit".)
Sean...i feel ya man... thats why i promised myself i would never go to another Dave Matthews concert about 6 or 7 years ago... BUT i had to break that promise with my loyalty to seeing The Avetts Bros..... i can't stand their fanbase.... they are just too damn rude.... i had two people talk trash to me and a buddy of mine for not having tickets they could buy - i mean come on thats absolutely obsurd and they realized it after I ran my mouth back a bit... but oh well.... anywho - thats the name of the game with Dave Matthews Band and its not going to change, or get any better, b/c its only gotten worse.... i can say that in the seats we sat it, there were a lot better people in terms of the kindness, etc.... but still got a bit annoying....
So understand and agree with the vibe and the wasted fans I saw there too. I have a friend who works one of the gates and she later told me there was a record number of people treated for alcohol poisoning. Can't believe that makes for the only excuse for some of the rude behavior I saw too. No respect of personal space either. I really am so appreciative of the sense of community that TAB invokes. Something in the music and the ones who listen that just sings LOVE. I was happy to hear Sally's Lover and am bursting at the seams to get my hands on I and Love and You. Peace till then....

I have nothing to say...This sounds horrible! (I have trouble with people throwing up so Im glad I was not there to witness any of this) I think I will stick to only TAB headlining shows! And I just dont see the point of going to a show just to get wasted and not even remember?!?!
Yeah it confuses me too. Paying $60+ to go black out and not remember a note of music is pretty stupid. I certainly hope the TAB community can keep its integrity as the band becomes more and more popular.
i am over dmb shows. i have been to 60 plus dave shows and the crowd gets worse everytime. so no more dmb shows for me and no more rude ass fans. i have only ran into the rude fan thing twice when seeing the avetts. koka booth last year a damn fight broke out down front and in knoxville just a couple of drunk ass punks. who kept saying who are these guys playing we only came cause of our girlfriends and to get smashed. some folks just don't appreciate the music
" koka booth last year a damn fight broke out down front "...I was pretty close to the front and I didnt see that. Im glad! Stupid people...dont ruin it for others! If anyone was at the Greensboro show on Halloween, there was this drunk guy that ended up running on stage while TAB was playing and "diving" off into the pit. He spend the night in jail! Why waste your money...just sit at home and get drunk and stop annoying the people who come for good music!
I really enjoyed the Charlotte show. I thought a lot more people (locals) would be at the show but I guess there were a good amount of true local fans there. I thought the Avetts did a great job. The show was great. My two favorite bands together; I couldn't ask for more! : )
i was right on the rail for koka booth. i was in front of bob and joe and it happened right behind me. a couple drunk ass dudes. the funny thing is. they rode together. IDIOTS
I thought the show was pretty good. DMB did give them extra time rather then the standard 45 mins, which cut the DMB show a little short. The energy was much better then the traditional DMB openers in the crowd and there were a lot more Avett fans in the crowd then normal.
I was worried how they would sound in a big empty ampitheater, because the usual openers sound like crap. We ended up sneaking up close, so they sounded great from there.
I was a bit disappointed by the new song that no one knows the title, because it was a bit slow and they ended on it rather then a wild song, like PG from Chile. Speaking of PG from Chilie, everytime I see it I think the guys should do an electric tour, because Scott is a natural electric guitar rock star.
