scott plays deering banjos (on stage that is). One is a Sierra and the other is a Black Diamond. As far as the pickup is concerned, i think, from what he has told me in the past, he just uses a 'radio shack' pickup. perhaps fashioned himself....
obviously, he has made a few modifications to his instruments, namely the wonderful artwork on the heads.
speaking of which, does anyone know what he did with the old banjo heads that were (as it seems) drawn on with sharpie...I'd love to check them out sometime...i mean, those are certainly something that warrant a frame.

sunday rehab has one, scott gave it to him after the cats cradle show last spring.
