Separation Anxiety???

Separation Anxiety???

Oh my gosh! Ok, so I got a free ticket to see John Mayer in Noblesville. That was pretty fun. However, my favorite part about the whole show was the Avett Brothers! I have been walking around for two days now with this wierd ache in my heart/stomache! Like when you REALLY miss someone you love. I think I'm having separation anxiety over my new love in life... The Avett Brothers! I'm on the verge of tears at all times and cannot seem to get enough of this music! I feel like my soul is flying and i'm gripping to it's kite tail. I have NEVER in my 32 years of life felt this way about a band. Thank You soo much for making this beautiful music. I love your hearts and am really going to try to pull off the show in St Louis in September. Wow... if I didn't have a beautiful family, I think I would just pack up and follow you across the world. And I And Love And YOU !

Wait till being a fan of this band leads you to some of the best friends you'll ever meet...and you plan out the shows that you're going to meet up at...and you wait for months and months and talk about it endlessly...and then you go to the show, have your soul punched by the Brothers, have an amazing time with your friends, and then everyone returns to their respective homes....Imagine how lousy you're going to feel when those shows are over.

But it's worth every single second. Smiling Welcome!

sigh....

welcome!

Nothing like it. Ditto to everything Heids says (cause she says it best Smiling )

Broken record here.....when you have absorbed what you have listened to so far, be sure to buy all of their records that are available. Every.single.one. is beautiful. and different.

I agree....My friend took me to a show... and then it was all over for me....and my husband....and my kids....and my coworkers:)
I have to repeat- buy every single record!!! Ahhhh.... Then share it:)

It is the best....nothing like my 3 year getting in the car and asking for "My Die Die Die Song" or my 9 year old saying "Mom I want to dance, play Go to Sleep" LOVE it!!

Hey, and now you know you can see the Avetts without wasting your time on Mayer!

Ooooh so glad that I am not a crazy person! Love that you all feel the very same way! I have never even been on a fan page of any sort for any band in my life! Let alone feel like I must post !! I'm def going to be purchasing everything I can find! And yes, Dimestore, i could have def skipped Mayer ( even though it was a great show) NOTHING compared to the passion and life of those beautiful Avett boys! Okay, now seriously, you guys have to tell me how to pronounce their name right! Is the 'A' a long or short vowel sound? And does the 'e' sound like an 'e'? Or more like an 'a'? I'm such a dork! But I really do not want to mess up their name! And just so I've said it... I am dragging my husband down with me! He WILL love Avett! 'Cuz I'm gonna need someone to drive me around to all of these shows! Ps- did I also mention that I have NEVER driven more than an hour for ANY concert? Seriously hooked! They are like crack for the ear drums! XOXOX

rhymes with "Pave it."

This is kind of the avett brothers cliff notes for newbies on the boards

and just to be ironic my captcha is faqus

The second "t" is silent, no need to pronounce it

Believe it or not I did not like them for many years. I refused to see them when they played at my coffee shop. I have since fallen hard too and I have the same addiction that many people do. There is nothing wrong with you and that ache we all feel. And of there is something wrong with you then there are a lot of people that have the same problem.

"And just so I've said it... I am dragging my husband down with me! He WILL love Avett! 'Cuz I'm gonna need someone to drive me around to all of these shows!"

Just keep playing their music loudly around the house and any time you're in the car and he should come around. My husband HATED them at first, but when I asked him the other day how he would rate them from 0-10, he said about a 9. I feel guilty pressuring friends/family into music, but I find this acceptable, since we're married and he's stuck with me. I'm actually beginning to enjoy the long drives together Smiling

Hahaha, perfect soundtrack for reading this thread, catfisher. Good call.

Hahahaha Nicole!! That's how I got my coworkers! I'm a labor and delivery nurse, and I play them on the unit EVERY night!! Eventually one of the nurses said that she knew the words to every song, one of the girls told me that she had bought a cd, and I noticed that a few of my coworkers are fans on facebook. LOVE it!!

by the way, it's called an Avett hangover (everything you and heids described.)
you feel the most joy possible at a show, then down the other side of the coaster. Sad
yep, avett hangover. they are the worst. and as heids said, once you make friends at the shows that you start planning with that you look forward to seeing as much as the band itself (more? hmmm) then it gets worse, but also better--b/c then you have them to talk to before and after and they are the only ones who'll break it all down with you. they'll also break it down again.

"The second "t" is silent, no need to pronounce it" good tip, dimestore-classic Rookie mistake. Eye-wink

and welcome!

"Ooooh so glad that I am not a crazy person!"

That is a common conclusion when someone meets their neighbors in the asylum.

The best cure for Avett hangover is to go to another show. And, while the Avetts are unmatched, there are some other great live bands that can at least lessen the pain: Paleface and Mo, Holy Ghost Tent Revival, Samantha Crain, The Low Anthem and a few others that you will read about on this board.

Welcome.

"they'll also break it down again." You bet!

Joie, before I discovered the Avetts I had never driven more than an hour to see any band either,....and now I'm inching up on 40 shows with these guys and have driven, and flown, all over the country! (ahem, we won't mention Amsterdam)Smiling Yes, we're all a little gaga over the Avett Brothers!
Welcome, love your enthusiasm!

Coming off an Avett high is never fun. Those boys are like crack (not that i've ever had crack but i imagine the addictive qualities are the same, aka having an avett hangover and then feeling sick until you can get your next fix, all while spending lots of money you don't really have). However, the absolutely amazing friends (emablers?) you will meet along the way are right there with you, and will happily share dayquill, for the cold you got from standing in the freezing rain for 8+ hours.

Broman = Joie

dave... Broman???

i LOL becuase that one comment is going to add like 30 more post to this board.

yeah that is pretty good, just guaranteed at least 2 more pages

just becuause it would take that much just to explain broman to someone who doesn't know him

"by the way, it's called an Avett hangover (everything you and heids described.)"

This ain't just an Avetts phenomenon... I have personally experienced this feeling with no less than five groups. Oddly enough none of which has been the Avetts...I guess I only experience it when there's the added factor of "I may not get to see this band again any time soon." Usually, when one Avetts show ends I already have a ticket for another one! Gotta love living in the southeast...

Tom Waits, now there's a hangover. You figure every tour might be his last.

We've been to two shows in the last two months and we just bought tickets for Radio City in October! I just can't get enough Smiling !!!!! It's somehting about them that's just hard to describe... love, maybe?!?! Welcome to the boards!

Hangover... Yeah, that describes it. I've felt it after every Avett show, and I remember a few other bands I've felt it with when I was younger. Didn't expect to have this reaction with a new band I just dicovered at almost 30 yrs old =)... Now I wish I could find someone to go with me that has the same feelings. Last time, I went with a friend and I'm pretty sure he thought I was annoying and/or crazy when all I could talk about on the 3 hour drive home was the show, all while listening to TAB albums. Yeah, I was that girl.
Also, I don't mean to stir up any controversey or anything, but this post made me think "Yeah, now I see why they opened for John Mayer." What a perfect example of the band reaching a wider audience and gaining more fans. I think it's a good thing.

Blaire, you can ride in my car any day!

Welcome to your new family!

As long as you gabber on about the show as much as me, I'm in Smiling

Yes, love these kind of posts! My reaction exactly when I first heard the Avetts. They just have something very special about them. And to think some people have hard times getting into them - what idiots!

I had only one band have the same effect on me in my teen years when I started to really get into music - Led Zeppelin. That totally blew me away. But this time it's so different. Zep disbanded five years before I was even born. The Avetts are around kicking and renewing every single day. Much more exciting.

Ah its great hearing people getting hooked to the avetts, it reminds me of when i heard them for the first time, and felt every thing that has been described on this post!

I LOV´ this! Ok- so far this week, I have accomplished having Avett played in my nail salon (which is one thing I'm considering giving up ... so I can save the $80/month to save for Avett shows!) AND i work in the coffee shop at my CHURCH and they played Avett there on Sunday for the 3 hours that I worked! They loved it! Requested that I leave my CD! But it's funny... I find myself getting defensive over my boys! AND I've decided that if the people I'm sharing this music with doesn't 'get it' that I'm not sure how much we have in common after all! LOL! It's definitely a heart thing! For sure! The music is amazing! But a lot of the lyrics just ...SAY IT! Ok- Also who's going to the St Louis show??? And how long will they play do u think!? AND do you think I can meet them, profess my love and get my picture with them there??? And how do I do that? I want them to eat at Fitz's with me... my treat, of course! Do they eat meat? And Blaire... if we lived close to one another, I would say I'm your girl! My husband is gonna b sick of me I'm sure the whole MONTH after St Louis! ( And I hope he 'gets it' soon... 'cuz I'm afraid that I may have to cut him loose to!... again, if he doesn't feel that thing in his heart over this music... he may not b the one after all! 14 years down the tubes, I guess! LOL (just kidding! but he WILL love them... or else!)

What about the shaking and heart pounding and time not moving fast enough before a show?
My friends tell me an intervention is in order. I tell them there is no cure.

I'm concerned about how it is going to feel when I leave the Ryman after the Saturday night show. The post-concert punch in the stomach and hangover has so far always been manageable by knowing I had tickets for another concert to look toward somewhere on the horizon. Since the Ryman concerts are the tour finale.....yikes!

You weren't the lady that told me I was an inspiration, were you?! Haha

I was one of seven total people dancing in the pavilion the entire time for the Avetts (I was there for them!) and some sweet woman grabbed my arm near the end of their tiny set and told me that I was an inspiration and that as soon as she could, she was getting her hands on as many Avett albums as she could. I told her thanks and promptly returned to dancing and singing along with the fellas! Smiling

I'm still experiencing my Avett hangover. Two times in one week will do that to ya, especially when November Blue was played at each show and I've waited for awhile for that gem! Ahhh. I wish I could afford Nashville!!
