SNL, Leno, Letterman, or Kimel
SNL, Leno, Letterman, or Kimel

If you had a choice, which show would you like to see the Avett Brothers play a new song on Jimmy Kimel, Jay Leno, Letterman, or Saturday Night Live. Also, what new song would you want them to play. I would like Letterman and Laundry Room.

letterman
and it spread or untitled
It would have to be SNL cuz they would get to play two songs instead of one and I hope those two would be My Heart's Like A Kick Drum & Laundry Room.
"It would have to be SNL cuz they would get to play two songs instead of one."
My first thought also. I'll take Please Pardon Yourself and Shame.
I believe they will get a SNL spot sometime in 2010. I really don't care which 2 songs they play.
anything but Leno. hate that smarmy bastard. okay, hate is strong, but I do not get the appeal.
SNL is prob. the best for exposure, esp. for their likely target audience and the two songs thing is good.
Laundry Room would be good, but they'd prob. play stuff from the new album and that might not make the cut (but I hope it does!) Kickdrum Heart and then, something slower. Guess we'll know what we can choose from in 91 days (thanks for posting that countdown, YurpleBliss!)
i think i would rather see them on the new Tonight show with conan o'brien.

SNL definitely b/c of the two songs reason. But if it was between the 'one song' shows, then I'd have to go with Letterman, easily. Leno is lame and I don't think I've ever even thought about watching Jimmy Kimmel. And it will most likely stay that way unless TAB were ever invited to play.
I'd vote for either Laundry Room, Tin Man or Late In Life.
Laundry Room and Tin Man on SNL. Some of the best live TV performances ever have been on there. Joe c***er, Elvis Costello, Pearl Jam, Ashley Simpson.
I hope I just didn't have my c***er censored.
how about conan and SNL.
for conan: late in life
SNL: tin man and i&love&you
I'll take Please Pardon Yourself and Shame.
Yep, Good Call, Mark!
snl for sure
i&l&y and laundry room
It would have to be SNL...
Two top choices "Murder in the City", "I Killed Sally's Lover"
"Some of the best live TV performances ever have been on there. Joe c***er, Elvis Costello, Pearl Jam, Ashley Simpson."
Yes.Yes. I would add Sinead, Neil Young and Faith No More.
Wasn't Milli Vanilli on there?
A Prairie Home Companion:
Tin Man
sorry to venture out on my own, but i don't like any late night tv. (plus i can't ever stay awake that long!)

Spot on Gibsonb - BOTH shows fo sho
Willcomply - i tivo late night tv just for the music. although the headline feature on monday nights is funny on Leno, and Conan used to be good.
Conan cause he really seemed to like the band - Kick Drum Heart for Mr. O'Brien.
SNL (spot on w/best musical performances Mr. Roth - i fell in love w/Neil Young my senior year of high school after seeing him do Harvest Moon solo) - would love to see Laundry Room or Kick Drum and I & Love & You.
My prediction is you will see TAB on one or both programs before this year is done.
I would have to say SNL because they get to play 2 songs. More people watch SNL than the other 2 because it's on a weekend evening and not during the week when most people have to work and go to bed earlier. I would love for them to play Laundry Room and Denouncing November Blue!!!!!
"Natural Woman" cover on Ellen DeGeneres? Hell Yeah
SNL is a bit over their heads.....it takes bands a while to get there.
The cool thing about Conan's old show is that he was able to put on lesser known, quality bands, like he did with TAB a few years ago (and countless others). I hope he'll still be able to do a bit of that now that he'll be on at 11:30.
SNL
i don't know anyone that watches SNL.
new conan for the win
I disagree about SNL being over their heads. I think the time is right, if they can get the booking, of course. Make people go "hey, who are these guys?"
I think that's a good way to attack SNL. I remember seeing Counting Crows on SNL years ago, before they were widely known, and actually hating them because I remember the lead singer doing some wierd thing with his (kinda pudge-a-riffic) belly while jumping around and singing Mr Jones. Within a year, they had taken off, and despite my initial feelings and dislike for the visual of that evening, I did enjoy much of their music in my early college years.
Conan definitely should have them on when he starts his new show (when is that anyways? I miss him!)... Does anyone even watch the other guys? (I don't stay up that late anyways, but sometimes the manorexic Carson Daly has some pretty good musical guests)
I disagree about SNL as well. I have seen several great artists I may have never known about if I hadn't seen them on SNL. I would be willing to bet there are people on staff at SNL know of and love TAB so I wouldn't be surprised if they appeared there in the next couple years. I think SNL does a good job choosing a diverse genre for their musical performances. I saw Ray LaMontagne on there a couple months ago and he was phenomenal.
I'd like to see them on SNL as well and performing Salvation Song and Shame.
SNL definitely.
For a song...how about some old school stuff? Like Carolina Jubilee...
If it were up to me, I'd probably choose Please Pardon Yourself and Shame or Weight of Lies, but if they get a late night gig, they'll probably sing something from the new album. I think Laundry Room has been confirmed to be on the new album. That'd be a great one to do.
Being on American Recordings will probably allow them to get some high profile slots.
Please Pardon Yourself or Talk on Indolence for the one old song on SNL.
and to Angi "Does anyone even watch the other guys?"
Letterman has been a riot the last couple of years. It's like he really doesn't care anymore. The music is the best on there too. More up and coming artist then Leno gets.
Example
Letterman-Tapes N Tapes
Leno-Fergie
Not caring can lead to some greatness. Ironic, yes?
And Leno is unfortunately the reason most people can't stay up late enough for the other guys...funny sometimes, sure, but most of the time...y a w n.
Wasn't Langhorne on Letterman during the last year?
Still, with 5am wake-ups, I don't get to stay up that late very often...and if I do, I'm probably doing something Avett-related online

LOL....
Langhorne was on Letterman... yes...
I'm predicting Conan and Letterman... But what do I know...
SNL - Laundry room and At the Beach
it would be especially awesome if the incorporated them into the skits like they do with most guests.

"Natural Woman" cover on Ellen DeGeneres? Hell Yeah
That would be incredible, you can actually suggest musical guests for Ellen.. and i have suggested TAB in the past.

they would kick ass on SNL - NOT over their heads. And so much better than the Ciara / Kanye BS that makes it there IMO.
What about Austin City Limits (the show not the festival)? Why haven't they booked that yet?
// just saw TAB in L.A. last Saturday. Awesome. Turns out Joe Kwon is related to the barista at the coffee shop I frequent. Only in L.A...
// yay for 1st posts.
No matter which show the music will see them through. The great thing about root music is that the fans know right away if it calls to them.
SNL.... Laundry Room and Bella Donna
SNL--LR and SFOS

Wish me luck, I know you think I'll need it.
For all the hardest roads we have to walk alone.
I agree on the song but I think they should go on a show someone is watching, like Leno.
Might be kind of different but, The Bob and Tom show (Radio, if you don't know them) may focus mainly on comedians, but have really good musicians on from time to time and have a huge listening audience! They are going to Indianapolis on 2/28/09... I have been e-mailing the show for weeks now trying to tell them about TAB... maybe they will be able to stop by! HELP IT SPREAD!!!
CONAAAAAAAAN O'BRIEEEN
SFoS on SNL would be amazing.
Don't know how often he does this kind of thing, but last year Stephen Colber had Wilco on his show. He did a 5 min interview with Jeff Tweedy followed by a Wilco performance. Would LOVE to see TAB do something like that.
