Song(s) never played live before?

Song(s) never played live before?

Are there any? I was trying to think of some, and couldn't come up with any for sure.

Replies for this Board Topic

i know that there are not 25 songs that have never been played before.
but thanks for the help.

I can't remember seeing Find My Love show up on any set lists, but I better be there when they finally do play it. Top of my list.

Give the love you find until it's gone

I might be mistaken, and I think SundayRehab might be able to set me straight, but I think they played "Find My Love" at the Cat's Cradle in 2005. The line-up was Scott and Seth performing all of the First Gleam, the Everybodyfields, and then the Avett Brothers. I don't remember the date or anything, but I remember that line-up and wondering what Scott and Seth were playing.

We are the true believers.

They did play a short set as The Gleam at the start of that show on 3/3/06. Having never heard these songs before I don’t remember which ones they did. I do remember it was short, maybe 4 songs long, at most. I don’t have a set list from that night and have never seen or heard of a recording of that first set. So in short, no I can’t help answer that question. But here is a photo from that Gleam set. http://entertainment.webshots.com/photo/2333309870078693903Rwswzk

According to my spreadsheet (yes, I am that nerdy), the following have never been played live:
Souls Like The Wheels
Find My Love
My Lady and the Mountain
Those Green Eyes
I Love You Still

Those last three were probably played when the boys were in the early stages of playing as the Avett Brothers, but there's no definitive word on that.

lildeadhead: that pen she uses to keep her setlists? it's a human-finger bone. dipped in the blood of the ones who yell out during "murder in the city". poetic, no?

Hm, I woulda swore that i heard Find My Love live. Could be the oldtimers settin in early

never heard them play jenny and the summer day

I'm pretty sure its been played, Ton...

i think i remember it being played the last time they played in Buffalo - but i could easily be wrong on that one...

Well Locust, Mount Pleasant, Concord.... LETS GOOO!

Well it's on Live at the Double Door, so they've played that at LEAST once. I'd imagine it was a staple back in those days.

i thought they'd never played the d bag rag? maybe?...what about yard sale?

I'm pretty confident I've heard find my love before.

Have they ever played Yard Sale? I don't think I've ever seen it posted and i've been around since the time of the 1st gleam. (I hear its not a fan favorite Sticking out tongue)

P.S.
Are all of the setlist just gone!? I went back to check an none of them are there (if they are the 1st post).I remember this was previously an issue but just assumed it had been fixed.

Greatest Sum (Acoustic)

Pretty sure I have seen the greatest sum acoustic....I think.

Jenny and the Summer Day was definitely not played they last time they were in Buffalo. Or the time before that.

Come to think of it, I don't think I've ever seen "Paranoia in B-Flat Major". You would think they would have played that one before.
How about 'Causey Commentary' or 'Laser Pants'? huh?
Also, I wonder if 'Hard Worker' was ever played much; I know most people dislike it, but it finally grew on me and now I look forward to it. The lyrics are great:
"Well I give my thanks to the Lord
And I give my thanks to the Lord, Lord, Lord
Lord, please give me some more
And I got way down on my knees
Sayin' Lord can't you help me if you please, please, please
Can you save me from this workin' man's disease

Load in
Load out
Get down
Get out
Drive home
Too late
My mind stays crooked
And my back stays straight
I'm a hard hard worker everyday
I'm a hard hard worker and I'm savin' all my pay
If I ever get some money for the wait
I'm going to take it all out and celebrate
I'm a hard hard worker everyday "

pcgil - Paranoia has been played humpteen dozen times; if not more

Please talk slowly. I don't hear good anymore.

hehe, thanks. I thought for sure a newb would fall for that, but OSM? what the?
I wonder how many straight shows they've played PiBFM. I was checking thru the setlists to see, and it has not been played straight as much as I thought, just at all 5 shows I've seen somehow; oh well, it's a great song and may be the best representation of their style overall imo.

yardsale was played January 26, 2007.

true love is not the kind of thing you should turn down - don't ever turn it down

I remember Dolph (could be wrong) mentioning D Bag being played ONCE, and only once. Minus the kazoo.
But I could be mixed up.

I would love to here Distraction #74 live someday.

you are correct, Nate. I'll never find it without the search feature, but seems to me it was at a tractor place? and no piano.

there's only one thing here worth hoping for

Yardsale Atlanta 3/22/07 Variety Playhouse 3:52
Yardsale Oregon 2007-01-26 Blackberry Hall @ Edgefield Winery Troutdale, 4:08
just to name two

Hard Worker was not an uncommon song in the set lists in 04 and 05. I love that song.

I saw Hard Worker at my very first show in 07. I also saw 40 East at that show, so apparently I just got lucky.

Nate, I've seen them play Distraction #74. Live. Tee hee. So your day will come, my friend!

Oh yea, jenny and the summer day, double door, duh. Crazy thing is I just had that in my car like 2 dys ago, but I've still personaly not been lucky enoug to see them play that. I think the closest I've ever been to seeing it was at the record store show they did at concord mills years ago I asked scott if he would play it and he kinda looked at me like I was crazy and he told me they would if they could "remember it", they didn't play it but for those of you who were lucky enough to be at that show know that I really didn't care. (November blue in the middle of a record store was good enough for me)

Stirred, you can search the website using google. I found Dolph's post about the performance.

They pulled out Hard Worker in May of this past year so there's hope yet, pcgil.

Give the love you find until it's gone

thanks, masuther! I don't know why I didn't think to do that since you can find just about anything you are looking for on google.

They played Hard Worker in Huntington this past October.

I was kidding. I think I've heard Distraction at EVERY SINGLE show I've ever attended. I mean, it's a pretty good song, but damn...
Gets kind of old.

hmm... i'm kind of surprised with souls like the wheels. i'd think at least once. wow.

Don' t recall Jenny and the Summer Day last time in Buffalo. At least not at the free Thursday in the Square show.

I'm pretty sure Jenny and the Summer Day is officially retired and has been for a handful of years now. It's one of the only songs I've heard of being requested and Seth turning it down flat each time.

Causey Commentary and Carolina Jubilee.

--
Go Vols!

yeah don't think they have ever played "carolina jubilee", since it's not a song but they have played a lot of it Eye-wink!

Wow. Yardsale...more than once...

My theory on maybe why Souls Like the Wheels hasn't shown up very often (or ever) is that it is played in an alternate guitar tuning (C, I believe). Not that Dane couldn't have a guitar right on hand for Seth to use specifically for that song, but since pretty much all of the other songs are in standard tuning, they would most likely have to pre-determine to play that song.....It would be amazing to hear it someday though!

Oh yeah,,,I can't believe they hardly ever break out Shame at many shows either.

Joking, of course. Eye-wink

I wanna live, and I want you to live happy and free

thats gotta be it.good insight bhamavettfan.

"If I Were a Kitten" hasn't been played live since the 80's.

^^^^^ good one! Smiling

I gave to you my ugly brown coat, you made it pretty when you put it on....

God, I cannot REMEMBER the last time they played I and Love and You... Or the elusive Murder in the City... Or Laundry Room... You think if they can give so much attention to Laser Pants and D-Bag Rag that they could give those hidden gems a shot, right?!

In all seriousness though, most of Bob's songs seem to have vanished into the abyss of the albums, never to be seen again.

Actually, I believe both 40 East and Letter to a Pretty Girl were played in 2009, so they haven't disappeared entirely.

Pretty Girl at the Airport got no love in 2009 if I'm not mistaken, though. Right, setlist keepers? I think the last time it was played was Floydfest in 08.

We got it in Syracuse.
