Spin Mag just ticked me off...

Spin Mag just ticked me off...

...in the grocery store. So, I decide to have a look see since it had something about the top 40 albums of the year on the cover. So as I thumb through there is I&L&Y at like #30 or so and the blurb said, and I'm paraphrasing here,

Rick Rubin...signed the brothers from NC...brotherly harmonies...sweet sounding piano pop.

Are you kidding me? piano pop, thats what you get at Broadway at the Beach. And to think, buying that mag crossed my mind for like, 1.5 seconds.

Oh, my. Well, it's obvious whoever wrote that isn't familiar with anything else they've done besides a couple off I&L&Y. Or listened to the lyrics.
Rise above it.

Spin sucks anyway. They gave the album a good star rating, but kind of panned it in the actual written part of the review. As far as I'm concerned, Paste is the only widely published music magazine that's worth a damn anymore.

Yea you have to think about what the media's concept of TAB is...the only exposure most of those mags have heard is I&L&Y. No Four Thieves Gone or Emotionalism or anything. So they are right...I&L&Y is mostly 'piano pop' because that's the album I think Rick wanted to put out...either way I'm fine having my own opinion about em and not to listen to the mags, because TAB will still make music even if their newest album is only #30.

it seems you may not have listened to the album. it IS piano pop. 7/13 of the songs. i'm in no way making a judgement on the album, but strictly speaking that isn't a gross misconception by any means.

it is a positive accurate description of I&L&Y which is the album that made the list. i don't see any cause for getting upset either. sure spin mag sucks, but this is the new avett brothers. piano pop, mainstream music, world reknown producer, CMT, One Tree Hill episodes, etc.
embrace their popularity, this is what we all wanted for them, and this is what happens to popular bands.

Agreed, but my how it sucks. I'm happy for them and sad for me.

I agree that, if you want a magazine that actually searches out new music and does readable analysis, Paste is THE magazine of choice.
