Wish me luck, I know you think I'll need it.
For all the hardest roads we have to walk alone.

Literally one block from my house.

yea I just heard this song the other day and I remember going to Lake Junaluska as a kid. I couldn't believe hearing it in the song. Thanks Avett's!

I also wondered in this song, who are the "criminals" that surround the charcters? Is that a facetious reference to doctors?

Nope. They are really just people in handcuffs I believe is how the story goes.

So am I supposed to feel good or bad after I listen to this song? I can't decide.

"After playing a sold out New Year's show in their native North Carolina, Scott left his bandmates and headed for far less celebratory setting: St. Joseph's Hospital. "After those good times, my wife was sick in the ER, and I was in the waiting room, staring at these two dudes who'd beaten each other up," Scott told Spinner of the song 'St. Joseph's,' which they performed. "I kept thinking to myself, 'How did I get here?' That's how I came up with the song."

I feel good after listening to this song. It seems to be about sticking together through the thick and thin, sickness and health...

proud...,
Sad, I think. One of TAB's saddest, in my mind. And that is saying a lot, as I think a lot of Avett songs are sad. This is one of my favorite songs. Partly because of the last line. And partly because of the gentle melody and especially Scott's delivery of the lyrics.

While my husband and I were planning our wedding, there was just a ton of stress about finances and arrangements and what not. It all got the better of us at one point. One day he picked me up from work to take me to lunch. I had to make a bank deposit, so we went by the bank first. It was raining cats and dogs that day. On the way back from the bank, heading to the restaurant, a heated argument ensued. Out of nowhere, a woman ran a yeild sign right in front of us. Because we were fighting over money, we didn't see her. There was no time to brake. My head went through the windshield, and I wound up in the ER. Every time I hear St. Joseph's, I can't help but think of that day. Talk about a wake up call regarding priorities!
