man...this hurts so bad, because i almost went to this show. but i'm so happy for taryn and andre to have seen it!! and thanks to t SO MUCH for the airport phone call! this has been my number one request through 15 shows of my own, and countless others for phone requests...can't believe they finally played it. sigh.
Good gawd!!!

I gave to you my ugly brown coat, you made it pretty when you put it on....
The people that went to this show are so lucky.
I really hope they play Pretty Girl at the Airport in Charlotte.
we were lucky enough to hear it at floyd too...(maybe why i forgot the exclamation point in my first post.)
the other three were brand spanking new for us, did not mean to slight airport, still one of my all time faves.
you know, and i was totally wondering last night in buffalo why they didn't play *any* PG songs...now i know! plus...there were only TWO repeats between the two nights, salina and paranoia! amazing!
ooh, that tickles! (right back at ya)
Speaking of Floyd....we got Vera too in annap
I just told Andre to post this and then did it to mess with him...
HA!

At the end of the set, the old man who was going to be behind the wheel for the long haul home said, "Boys, that gave me God bumps."
rapture and smoke!
As I was driving home last night, singing along to Locust much louder than I would ever consider singing at the actual show, following the most beautiful moon (did you guys see that?), I nearly got choked up (again!) because I was, again, reminded of how much these incredible people and their incredible music has touched my life. It was an amazing, one-of-a-kind night, and I hope the guys know how thankful we all were to be there, anywhere, anytime see them or listen to them or spend time with Avett fans we've met on the road--it's always a wonderful experience, and I am, as they say, nothing short of thankful.
The emotional roller coaster that I experienced between Locust, Matthews, and Airport was enough to take me somewhere I've never been. I asked Seth about Locust before the show (casually declaring my love for the song), and he said he'd seriously keep it in mind. The played it for soundcheck and I was shaking in my sneakers... even if they hadn't played it at the show, I would've had that experience. But then they hit us with this! My thoughts throughout the first ten songs: "no way. no way." Every time they started a new PG song the crowd freaked out, even after we realized what was happening.
After the show, Joe said that it felt like they played two different sets--one PG set and one regular set. Seriously, I think if they had ended after Chile I would have been perfectly okay. Or even after Airport.
There were a couple first-timers behind me and I took multiple opportunities to tell them that they are getting one of the best sets in the world for a first show. I hope they remember the night as we all will.
Met some nice people, spent time with great people I've met before, cried, screamed, danced, cried again, and smiled real big for an hour and 40 minutes (and some time after)--all in all one of my best nights. Wish we could've shared it with all of you guys, but I think everyone was there in spirit (that means YOU, Marissa!).
I know in a few years I'll think "remember the time The Avett Brothers played ALL the pretty girl songs in a row, and I only had to travel one hour to see it?" and I'll smile yet again to remember such a beautiful time.
good lord
whoops, sorry for the quintuple-post. My bad. haha
quintuple! that's impressive.
truly amazing. I'd have been happy with just Airport as it's one of the tops on my wishlist, but really would love Locust/Matthews/Airport as I haven't seen those three. So happy for you guys!

I wanna have friends that I can trust,
That love me for the man I’ve become, not the man that I was.
Oh. My. God.
4. pg from san diego

9. pg from feltre ( i am not making this up)

If these 7 songs were the last I ever saw the boys do live, I would die a happy man. Holy hell.

Nothing's good because nothing lasts. And all that comes, it comes here to pass.
I would voice my pain, but the change wouldn't last.
All that comes, it comes here to pass.
Buffalo was awesome, I enjoyed it very much. Syracuse is like 3 hours away and we didn't get on the road till five, show starts at eight, and we still don't have tickets. After frantically trying to discover what exactly "box office only" means (the venues response on their web site for getting tickets), nearly draining my account at the ATM, picking up my cousin in one town, and then friends in the next, and finally getting an answer from the venue where he reassured me that they would NOT sell out, we were safely on the road, and on our way to what came to be the best night of our lives.
We arrived in Syracuse in good time at about 7, and trying to find the theatre wasn't hard, it was directly in the middle of a neighborhood with a couple of shops around, a nice place. Kind of an odd spot for a venue, but I was loving it the moment I saw it. There was free parking in back and when we pulled in, we saw the bus along with Joe
Kwon conversing with a couple, very casual, very comfortable. After we were parked we got our tickets and checked out the town (re-entry permitted!). Stopped at a thrift store and hung out for a little while. When we went in after the opener, we made our way up front, but ended up finding a more comfortable spot towards Bob's side, which was a nice change up because I'm usually on the other end. A lot of people were not happy with our late arrival, and I did my best to not impose, I let a shorter couple ahead of me to see better, and eventually stood comfortably according to everyone's preferences.
The lighting was perfect (I felt murder in the city was coming) and I had a good feeling. They opened with pretty girl from annapolis laced with Veera by Pink Floyd which was a gift to a friend of mine who is just starting to get into Avett and boasts Pink Floyd as his favorite band. It blew him away. The crowd was splendid and had them going into the upbeat pretty girl from 'insert name of city', in this came syracuse. Then Raleigh, then San Diego (which I have never seen and was very pleased), then Locust and I couldn't place it immediately, I had to sing it through to myself and then it hit.
And we Roared!!!
We sensed the pattern but were suprised with every song.
Murder in the City meant a lot to my brother who practically cries. Ha, my brother, A concrete working, Harley riding, America-the-beautiful death metal and tatoo lover, crushed by the song. There is that family message in that song that brings my brother, my sister and I together, cuz we're all pretty different. November Blue came shortly after and I have a personal connection with that song after all, it was the first song I've ever heard and it was the first time I saw it since the first time I saw it.
Down with the shine was a new one for me, and it's message of "moments good or bad will pass" was conveyed easily and effectively. I and Love and You which has become a regular on my playlist was the first time I've seen it live since it was unveiled to me in Ithaca last november. I loved every second of it, even though a woman came up to me, grabbed both of my arms and asked very politely (ha!) "Can you please shut up for ten minutes! please, ten minutes!" So I did, I settled down for a couple of seconds and planned to, but then Seth asked the crowd for help on the chorus...I had to oblige.
And I feel bad for this um nice lady, because a Talk on Indolence followed directly after, and you know it was game over. We tore it up, and Avett took a about a one minute break before their paranoia encore. Scott had busted like three strings and Seth was out of wind it seemed like for his verse, so the crowd took it instead, and we sang that whole god damn verse! Joe Kwon told us later that he was blown away by that, he had never seen that before.
This performance was the greatest thing ever and the crowd along with our crew gave everything.
And they gave back. they really did.
I'm sitting here and my voice is shot from back to back nights, especially this one.
The best part, and perfect ending to the night was meeting Joe, and Scott with whom I tried my best to convey my feelings of the music and life and whatever to him, and I'm afraid if I were to attempt to retell how it made me feel, I would fail.
Now I don't know about "bozos" but we didn't hold back, and why should we, It was the best night of our lives, and I don't know about you but it was truly something special to us, not just a notch on the belt. We weren't drunk and we weren't rude. I made sure everyone around me was comfortable and if we blocked anyone who waited patiently, we kindly let them go in front of us. When I screamed, It was directly in the air and not towards anyone's ears. When I jumped it was in my area not reckless flailing. Who is to call someone amateur?
Some people jump and sing, and some people stand and contemplate, some a little of both. But there is no right or wrong way, just a different way.
Taryn, You are lovely and it was a pleasure to talk to you.
Wow....that is simply amazing

And I love this moment we're in, though we may not ever see this moment again...
damn
Well said, CSP. It was an incredible, albeit smaller, crowd and EVERYONE was there for the band in stark contrast to the night before when the crowd was there for a free show that the Avett Brothers just happen to be playing.
I commented to Andre that it was a bouncey crowd. I expected to see someone flailing through the air like on the Muppet Show.
The crowd singing Seth's verse on Paranoia was nice. I think he only paused to give Scott a second to recover, but the crowd was having none of that. The smile on Seth's face when he heard the chorus growing was priceless. I've seen the crowd sing the 2nd "victory" part before, but not his whole part. Anyone who's seen Seth do this knows the grin and "come on" hand wave he gives the crowd.
They certainly obliged last night. I was quit impressed.
Syracuse - put a pin in the map coz you made your mark. It's funny because Scott said year's ago they called some place in Syracuse and asked to play and the guy told them that nobody knew them and people weren't gonna come see a band they didn't know.
I bet they know them now.
Everybody at that show who wasn't a fan, is now.
Everyone who already was, is for life.

ughhh...while I've enjoyed reading your comments I am still feeling a bit of jealousy! How often do the Avett's play in upstate 2 nights in a row, both about 1 1/2 hours from our house, and we had to miss both of them!!! granted we were enjoying ourselves in Maine, its still disappointing we had to miss this show! I spoke with Travis today at the Newport Folk Festival and he said that the Syracuse venue would hold 700, but only about 400 people were there. AMAZING!
Ahhh, jealousy. The most corroding of all human emotions. I am ate up to the bone right now. Congrats to all those in atendance.

***ScreamiN' my luNgs out with NothiN' to say***
I just need to say that I'm still floored about this show. I keep telling everyone I know and they don't seem to get it!
I get it, Taryn! So glad you were there!
Note to self: Don't Miss Any More Shows.
That's the beauty of this community, Taryn, WE get it!

Well, that was a fun evening now wasn't it. Still shinning from that moment and I am going to carry it with me forever.

"Do the best you can and that won't go unseen"
Syracuse ROCKED!!!!!!
All the Pretty Girls were fantastic
I cried almost half the show.
It was so beautiful.
Come back soon boys!
So of all nights i did not bring my rig to record. This happens everytime i dont record. Something huge happens. Its almost worth leaving it home all the time that way big stuff all the time. This show was exactly what everyone has said "Incredible". It has been a bit since my last show but have always followed along. This show left me wanting more and more. Seems like the boys just slayed it all the way threw. I had to Dj right after at a big event downtown and almost did not go because I was so wowed. I am glad I went tho because the energy these guys left me with just totally amplified me to play a stellar set. I played a set that impressed my self even lol totally being inspired before hand. Not much I can say that was not already said. I do want to thank the brothers for giving all of such a great show. These guys in many ways saved my life this past year and i have waited so patiently to see them again in person. Even after my gig i was still amped and was wide awake for the big drive back home. Much love for sure.
yeah it was a very good show...however buffalo, in my opinion, was a stronger performance. and im sorry if i was one of the "bozos", but what can i say, i was having an amazing time!
