Ten Thousand Words Lyrics / Tab

Ten Thousand Words Lyrics / Tab

I figured this out just messing around, because I absolutely love this song and it's so fun to play/sing. These chords may not be dead on, but it sounds right (to me). Enjoy!

[Capo 7]
G, F, C x2

(G)Ten thousand words swarm (F) round my head, Ten (C) million more in books written be(G)neath my bed (F) (C)

(G)I wrote or read them (F)all when searching (C)in the storm(swarm?) still can't find out how to (G)hold my hands (F) (C)

(G)And I know ya need me (F)in the next room over(C), but I am stuck in here all (G)paralyzed (F) (C)

(G)For months I got my(F)self in ruts, too much (C)time spent in mirrors framed in yel(G)low walls (F) (C)

(G)Ain't it like most people, (F) I'm no diff(C)'rent, we love to talk on things we don't (G)know about(F) (C) x2

And everyone around me shakes their head in disbelief and says I'm too caught up.
They say young is good and old is fine and truth is cool, but all that matters is you had your good times.
But those good times come with prices and I can't believe it when I hear the jokes they make
At anyone's expense except their own, would they laugh if they knew who paid?
(G)Ain't it like most people, (F) I'm no diff(C)'rent, we love to talk on things we don't (G)know about(F) (C) x2

F, C, x4

And after we are through, ten years in making it to be the most of glorious debuts
I'll come back home without my things cause the clothes I wore out there I will not wear round you.
And they'll be quick to point out our shortcomings, and how the experts all have had their doubts.
(G)Ain't it like most people, (F) I'm no diff(C)'rent, we love to talk on things we don't (G)know about(F) (C) x4

Awesome, thanks Maestro! Sounds perfect to me. I would love to try and learn those solo parts. This is such a beautiful song. Sounds very Gleam-ish to me. Thanks again for the chords!

I wanna live, and I want you to live happy and free

Thanks man, it really is a gorgeous song. Simple but beautiful. And you're right, it does sound like it belongs on a Gleam album! I'm gonna see if I can tab out the solos, but no promises there, haha.

It's not the chase that I love - it's me following you.

Does anyone think this song is similar to YOU MOVE by Yes

Obviously much slower and a waaaay better song in my humble opinion just has that similarity to it.

It's time the good people see this video:

Live debut of Ten Thousand Words in Los Angeles - 5 September 2009

Just our two favorite brothers, a pair of guitars, and those words. Oh, those words and their harmonious, deliberate delivery!

It was very powerful.

I think the crowd was in aw after that one.

I know I was.

Yeah, that was one of the best moments at any Avett show for me. Completely took me by surprise, first time ever hearing it, and it definitely helped redeem the bad (completely non-Avett related) aspects of that night for me. Going to pick up the vinyl today, can't wait to hear this song!!! (and all the others, of course)

I can not wait to hear this live. The video gives me chills. I think I heard someone make an audible noise, almost like a moan. Wow.

Love all the lyrics. This one really stands out.

I'll come back home without my things cause the clothes I wore out there I will not wear round you.

A live performance is a fleeting moment. A recording is a lasting work of art.

the video looked like seth was playing it A G D on capo 5

Yeah, that's my audible gasp (uh, not moan) there at the beginning.

I'm talking about around the 4 minute mark, and it is more of a moan than a gasp Eye-wink

This is soooooo beautiful.

I can't get Angi's vid to work and I can't find any alternatives on Youtube and i'm DYING to hear this song!!! I love the lyrics and can't wait to hear the entire work of art. GRRRR

Ok, that's it. Record player will be purchased tonight. And all those jerks on the packed rush hour train can just deal with the creepily giddy lady with the gigantic package from J&R. Smiling

Will you forget when we have paid our debts,
who did we borrow from, who did we borrow from?

Heidi, do yourself a favor and watch this from home, if you can.

Just cranked it while making dinner in an empty apartment. I'm levitating.

I can't wait to hear this album - but I'm going to, until the 29th. I decided today I cannot justify buying a turntable just to hear a record I'll own in - what, 3? - different formats in 12 days. Bummer, but you gotta make cuts somewhere.

Anyway, Angi, thanks for posting this gem. It really is a gorgeous song, and I can't wait to hear this live, on the CD, haunting my dreams....

does anyone know what Scott is playing? I would love to play this with a buddy!!

scott plays the chord progression D C G without a capo

seth is playing it on the fifth fret and is playing A G D

"Do the best you can and that won't go unseen."

"Do the best you can and that won't go unseen."

Saw this for the first time last night at the NYC release show. What an amazing song.

Anyway, Scott had the capo on second fret and basically just went D C(with pinky on high G note(High E string 3rd fret)) and G. Seth had his capo on the 7th fret and I really just gave up on watching him play it and focused on scott.

it sounds like it is in G on the album

Guitar #1 capo 2 D C G
Guitar #2 capo 7 A G D

I think the song is in A. "Guitar 1" from kgnett seems to work best for playing alone because of the descending bass line.
I can't sing anyway so I guess it doesn't matter what key I play!

I can't wait to hear this live, love the lyrics
just a great song

I play it the way that maestro does, and it sounds great. SO fun to jam to.

thanks for the video, Angi. That was wonderful! Hearing that song for the first time in a tiny basement bar in NYC was one of the most incredible moments of my life.

Taryn, me too, truly. This one has just totally taken me over.

So great, definitely one of my favorites right now. And Taryn and Bec, it was really amazing to see it (I'd heard it about 8 times in 24 hours at that point) for the first time in that environment. Agree that it's very Gleam-ish, kinda surprised they didn't keep it for the Third Gleam, which I hope is coming soon!!

Wish me luck, I know you think I'll need it.
For all the hardest roads we have to walk alone.

Thanks for posting that vid, Angi. Absolutely beautiful!

...where nothing is owed, deserved, or expected...and your life doesn't change by the man that's elected...

@heykylemccarthy

To me the album version of the song sounds very similar to "Your Time is Gonna Come" by Led Zeppelin. Something about the Hammond B3 organ, the acoustic picking and the chord progression.

That said, it's a fantastic original song by the bros and I love it!

It is familiar for sure. I think thats what makes all the songs so great. They are just comfortable right off the bat.

Anyhoot in another thread someone mentioned a mandolin was used on the album version. Anyone have tab for that?

A friend of mine commented after listening to I Would Be Sad for the first time that if felt like a song he had known all his life. I felt the same way, and was instantly reminded of why me and this guy have been friends since 6th grade and always will be. He gets it.

Being that everyone is saying it reminds them of another song, I'll say it reminds me of Bad Company's Shooting Star and Marshall Tucker Band. Like blasto said, it seems I've always known this song. In their interview on Interface, they said they weren't breaking new ground with it, but in my opinion, perfecting it. I LOVE it.

Sorry for the double post. I can't figure out how to remove it.

Can anybody tab out the little lick they do from C to G in the verses. I haven't been playing very long and I am having troubles figuring it out. Thanks!

Thanks Maestro. I think Scott is playing A G D with the Capo on the fourth fret. I played along with the album this way and it sounded pretty good. I could be wrong though.

Does anyone have the solos for this one yet? It is my favorite song From the I&L&U album. I'm going to see them in Cleveland and I am hoping they will play this one!

Thanks in advance.

Couldn't see where anyone had posted this link so here it is, this is incredible and you can see the chords easilly enough.

Hey y'all.

Here's a sneak peek on what I'm working on. This is just the solo after the second chorus. Unlike the track on I and Love and You, this is CAPO 7.

e|------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
B|------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
G|----------------------------2--4--4b----2h4h2--------------------------------------------------
D|------------------2--4---------------------------------2h4h2-------------------------------------
A|----0--2--4--------------------------------------------------------[0--2h4 x8]----0----------
E|------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

It happens at about 1:44 in this video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ugkLFwqslp8

Let me know what you think and if you want me to finish this video (I'm also working on the I&L&Y version...)
