Terminal 5 NYC 10-17-09

Mindblowing show. Perfect setlist. Especially since they played PG From Locust [my favorite song :D] and closed with Will You Return! I was so exhausted by the end of the show that my heart was beating out of my chest - in a good way. I brought my best friend to try and convert her, and she LOVED it. She was jumping up and down and screaming right alongside me. An amazing night!

So yeah the boys were on fire. Seem to have a big love for NYC. They are always happy and thank full whenever I saw them but last night was a gift back from NYC to them and they returned the favor. I had a blast heard 3 of the 5 songs I was looking for with a extra thrown in. Sound was tight as hell. Lights were pretty decent. After all I heard about this venue my review is its great. I reall like the venue. Most people were jumpin. My only problem with the night was it being so packed you could not get involved like you normally would at a Avett show. I tried my best but was cramped up bad. Even with that said I had a epic experience. Was glad I could give my wife that experience for her birthday. She had a blast and confirmed her crush on the Avetts even more lol. I believe to have spotted a few from this board but neglected to say hi because I was unsure lol. Lets not forget how wonderful Jessica sounded as well. She looked outstanding and is such a beautiful soul. Nice to see fro today with Scott and Joe as well. That was another bonus. Over all the best show I have been to but they are all so great in their own way. Hope you all had fun. February cant be close enuff now.

Thanks for posting the vids.
Also wanted to let all those that I was hanging out with what a privilege it is to get to know you all, some new and some again.
Don't want to name names for fear I will leave some out but you know who you are.. Feels like family. See you at the next show.

Here's a few of the photos I got from last night (and in June) which I thought people would enjoy. Last night was truly spectacular...the Avett Brothers are absolutely incredible.
I too had the privilege of meeting some incredible fans who really made the night that much more special.

"Complaint, why are there Three threads for the same show"

Because it was that good.

I was on Avett side midway back. WE had great spots. There were way to many tall people on that side but was still worth it. Did you all see the dude who was like 6'7" or so. Or was that someone maybe on the board lol. Well thats where we were. I am 6 foot but there was alot of small people next to me I felt bad for. There should be a rule that all people over 6 foot should be spread out haha. Cuz there was a wall on our side. All good tho cuz everyone wants a good show and to see.

elwells, thanks so much for posting those! Great shots. Your whole group was truly delightful and we really enjoyed sharing the show with you Smiling. Hope to see you next time!

Yankee you were behind me!!! Thanks for being a wall for me and Lila.

My 2nd show.. and far from my last! Possibly the best concert I've ever seen.
Can't wait for Ithaca.

Can someone tell me about PGFL?
I can't find it on any albums online.

I'm a newbie in that a friend gave me a mix CD with Die Die Die on it in July 2008, and I've been hooked since then.

--
Cause nothing happens here that doesn’t happen there.

PGFLocust is on Carolina Jubilee from 2003. PGFRaleigh, which they did in NY, also from there. Can't seem to find this or Country Was anywhere. And you probably know Die Die Die is from Emotionalism - widely avail.

--
Always surprised to find more.

You can (and should) buy both A Carolina Jubilee and Country Was from the iTunes and Amazon digital stores.

--
Give the love you find until it's gone

Thanks Mooncutter - was hoping to find hard copies, but not sure I can hold out that long!

--
Always surprised to find more.

You'll have a hard time tracking those down. They sold the last of the Carolina CDs at last year's NYE show and Country Was was gone long before that. While they physical copies are nice to have, the songs are too good to wait on. That said, I'd keep an eye on ebay for A Carolina Jubilee, as it does show up every now and then.

I spy some people saying really weird things about some of your friends...... no really, what the heck?!

What in the actual f***?

Those comments are so ridiculous. I'm blowing up with anger toward those idiots.

Awesome, awesome photos, thanks for posting littledeadhead! Wow, some of those comments are truly awful - what is it about the anonymity of the internet that makes people say horrible things?!

I can't believe people would say such nasty things. It's gross.

Loved the show, but something was missing. The shows I usually go to are in the South and they are much more energetic. But really no complaints here, any Avett show is a wonderful treat.

If Jen, Taryn, and Sophie are supposed to be Carrie circa 76 well then she must have been looking fine back then because we all know ya'll are hot, especially for day 3!

The pictures and the people in them are beautiful.

--
Meanwhile, there's Scott's voice, one of the most emotionally naked in any genre, merging with Seth's more guarded intimacy to sound like angels arm wrestling and tears drying on a cheek

Regarding the wonderful ladies mentioned above (ETA: and below), you are all beautiful inside and out. Too bad those fools only wound up with just enough intelligence to use a computer...

Elwells, great photos! The one you captured of my arms framing Scott is priceless!

Soooo nice to meet you and your friends! I'm glad you had a good time.

--

julia, did you leave me out on purpose? does that mean you *also* would refuse to have sex with me? Sad

aren't you two sisters? wouldn't that be illegal?

--

the first person to find a picture of Seth's "life's too short, just be nice" shirt on here and posts it on that blog/sends it to me to post wins 25 points and a chicken.

ps you guys are the best. and those people are just darn pathetic.

There you are, Taryn

--
Give the love you find until it's gone

thanks Emma! Sorry I couldn't actually award you 25 points, but I'm sure you didn't really expect a chicken.

this show was just absolutely amazing. I'm from Alabama and I was surprised to see how enthusiastic the NYC crowd was. It really is credit to the family that the Avetts have created with their music. THAT LOCUST WAS AMAZING!!

its not as bad as it seems
either way one of them has got to go

Just getting a look at your pics littledeadhead, fantastic, thanks for sharing.

Great night all and all, and nice to meet some of you.

Background bridge ? .....Williamsburgh ? ..definitely not Brooklyn.

I like that Scott threw in a, Frozen in ( NEW YORK ) I Stay, during Late in Life. Smiling
and the place just blew up at the end of Laundry Room.

Mike--I can't take credit for taking those photos, but I did find the link. There are some beautiful photos in that set though.

Aamzing pictures.

Nice meeting you too Mike.

I forgot about the "frozen in new york city" part.

I still think that was the best Laundry Room I have ever seen. I briefly got to talk with Susan after the show and she said the whole entire room from the stage to the bar and every floor above was just moving during the end of Laundry Room.

M, in the one photo (where I am either blinking or really feeling it, and either way, goofy), you are thankfully not in it. sigh. but I'm still thinking Julia isn't going to have sex with you. I could be wrong, what do I know? guess we can be grateful these weren't taken on day 4....
thanks for the kind words, Avett family, here and on that link. sucky people (them.)

Did not catch the "frozen in NYC" thing and it's great to hear someone's perspective of the whole room, and Susan could see everything from her vantage point--it's cool how in the last, or near the last photo you can see her above Seth--can't remember if it was the Brooklyn Vegan or elwells set though.

Mike--great to finally meet in person! It is the Williamsburg bridge, taken by Crackerfarm, converted into the background by Anne of Redcanary.com and also Pete (the sound guy's) wife. Talented and nice lady, check out her website. She is particularly skilled in fuzzy nuts. Smiling

--
Wish me luck, I know you think I'll need it.
For all the hardest roads we have to walk alone.

Wait, did Anne make the fuzzy nuts?!

Smiling My pleasure guys, Enjoicash, Im planning already for the Ithaca show 2/10, maybe Ill catch ya there if you make it.

Jennifer, my brother and I were trying to figure out which bridge angle would give you that view of the Empire State Building and he said gotta be Williamsburgh. Very well done and Ill definitely take a peak at their site. Cant believe you made it to all 4 shows Balt. to Boston...some great setlists you caught.. Great to meet ya !

One of these days Ill buy early entry and hang up front with you folks.

--
" The day will come, the sun will rise and we'll be fine "

Reblecka, she did. We saw her briefly after the show (maybe you'd left?) and I complimented her on the shirt and she ALSO pointed out the fuzzy nuts. Smiling
It was a great run, Mike, and glad we met, even if it was only briefly!

I was standing next to/slightly behind a #49 on Team Avett. I'm relatively new to the boards, so this guy is probably a frequent poster, but I just wanna say...you are a very tall man Smiling

--
careful not to say that i don't care, or haven't, or can't, or will not again.

Sorry about that, therules. I do feel bad sometimes for being up front. Not when they're playing, of course. Smiling That is a special group of people up there, and I love being with them, but that stupid security fence they put up made me a couple of inches taller. Yikes!

Hey, were you there with 3 others? With the two drunk girls trying to push their way past you?

49! There you are. And don't be sorry a single bit, you were having fun and my view wasn't even obstructed Smiling You just stood out because you were tall and I remembered you! I was with a short blonde girl in a red plaid shirt. I did see the two drunk girls, though...they pushed me and said, "Excuse us, we're friends with Scott Avett." Then they got kicked out.

--
careful not to say that i don't care, or haven't, or can't, or will not again.

hah, so that's why he writes quotations around the word "friends"

i heard all kinds of reasons why people should be closer. WE had a whole group shove their way right in front of us. Literally stepping on our toes and they say "This Looks Like A Great Spot" I had to laugh because we waited and grabbed this spot right at 7 and this group came at the end of Jessica. Have to love the late crowd. I was trying not to be rude but decided after the 10th time someone did this i have to start saying something. Epic show either way!!

First of all, I want to say what a pleasure it was to meet Heids on Saturday night!

We were one of the lucky first 30 who purchased tickets, so they let us in before everyone else. I was right up against the security fence, between Scott and Seth - can it get any better than that?

Fabulous, fabulous show. And did someone say lack of energy? Sheesh, the crowd was euphoric! They sang along with every song (annoying sometimes - some songs you just want to listen to!) and screamed and applauded like mad. The whole place was jumping.

What's so great is that it is clear that the boys love playing NYC.

Wonderful show, as always!
