Trades?

Trades?

Does anyone have live shows to burn for a relative newbie? I'm loving on the albums, but I know the livelihood is where it's at.
Thanks!

I'm going to pretend this is the first time this question has been asked.
The band, while allowing taping, discourages the trading of said live recordings.

OK. My bad. Thanks.

No problem. It's just a question that gets brought up fairly often, mainly due to the lack of 'sticky' threads on this board.

What's the point of allowing taping but discouraging trading. Bands like the Dead, DMB, Phish, etc. allow taping and ENCOURAGE trading as long as it's done for free. It cuts out the bootlegger who's trying to make a profit. Bands like HGTR allow it because they want their music out there and spread around (And It Spread) as much as possible. That's how DMB rose so quickly. People knew their music across the country before they even released a real recording.

Do you know that they discourage it? I'm sure it's been discussed but this site makes up for the lack of stickies by not having a search function Sad

I'm sure there are others here who can elaborate more on the policies of the band and management with more certainty than myself, but from what I've read on the these boards and heard from others, there is a firm 'no trading' policy.

Yes their official policy is no trading, or posting online of live recordings.

Well, there are a lot of people ignoring the no posting of live recordings... they need to make it more well known to new comers because the request of the band is being ignored.

They also have asked people not to post videos of unreleased songs. Lots of "fans" have been ignoring that request too.

i wish that people would stop posting unreleased songs. it's like i can't wait for gleam 3 or the next album to come out, but part of me already knows i will have heard half of it. the obvius solution is that if people continue to post the boys may just stop playing new stuff live which is not fair for the poeple who pay to go to the shows.

'cause all my mistakes, they brought me to you"

But that still begs the question. Why allow taping? Is that one guy then supposed to take it home and put it in his collection never to be heard from again? I only own actual releases and I'm not trying to say break the rules...I'm just playing devil's advocate. There's a reason that other bands have allowed taping over the years. I respect their policy but don't understand it. But then again I don't understand a lot of things. I'm not the brightest knife doing rocket surgery.

I for one can say I have really appreciated that folks post their live recordings online. I get that posting unreleased stuff is in somewhat poor taste, but when the closest ever show for me was 650 miles, I really enjoy watching them in a live setting. It makes them like & appreciate them more and want to spend more dough on their products.

I never claimed to understand it, or agree with it. I am simply stating the facts. It has been pretty much discussed to death on here.
Three years ago they said they would soon post a clear taping policy. We are all still waiting.

I am just going to guess but the Avett Brothers do play (test) a lot of songs on the road. The Avett Brothers strike me as a band that wants it right before releasing it to the whole world.

They have also done a great job of expanding their audience without taping.

It is their request as artists and I respect that.

Here's a new and exciting topic: Reiggin is a smart ass.
Oh wait...Nope...Already painfully obvious.

I'll tell you what's painful... CAPTCHAS!

I love captchas. what's more fun than the feeling of trying to read while you're drunk, without actually being drunk. Maybe if I posted while I was drunk, the captchas would be more legible to me...and the posts would be sooo much better.

I was already chuckling at the uniqueness of this discussion, but this got me laughing out loud. Thanks.

I don't have to understand the band's position. It is their property to do with as they please. And all evidence says they are handling it pretty well.
