Turn up the Radio
So I was in Morgantown West Virginia today about 15 minutes away from where i go to college. I rode with one of my friends to a bike shop to pick up his new mountain bike and as i was walking around the store I was startled to hear "PGF Chile" playing on the overhead speakers. I immediately turned to one of the salesman and asked " Is this the radio playing?" and he said "Yeah i think it's the college's (WVU's) radio station". I then told him that i was going down to charlotte friday to watch them play. I've seen the Avetts 8 times live and have all CD's minus LATDDI, but this was the first time I ever heard them on the radio and it made my week hearing them somewhere unexpected. Anyone else have any Avett radio stories?
P.S. I think they played a samantha crain directly after. Dolph you have a good eye for talent!

I am not aware of a station that plays artists like the Avetts or Samantha in the KC area, but if I find one I may actually use my radio for something other than NPR.
Every Avett release since Mignonette has spent multiple weeks at the #1 spot on the charts at WQFS 90.9 FM in Greensboro.
To quote Katie “I'm just saying”
I heard them randomly on an AM station in the smokey mountains near pigeon forge, TN
I was sitting in a Dunkin Donuts with my girlfriend one day eating breakfast with my girlfriend and I heard familiar music. I realized that it was 40 east and got really excited. first because I have never heard the avett brothers on the radio and second because of all the avett songs to play on the radio it was 40 east. Then I realized it was just my girlfriends cell phone. If you hold the play button on the outside of the phone for so long it starts playing the music in it alphabetically.
The college radio station around here is the only one who I have really heard play the avetts. They played Emotionalism from start to finish when it first came out...and XPN played them for a while, too. But I haven't heard them on that station for a long time
"Then I realized it was just my girlfriends cell phone. "
hehe, funny.
I never hear them around here, but I work on the GWU campus and the day before I was going to see them in Harrisburg and then New Haven, I heard Go To Sleep on the campus radio station (which only broadcasts online and in a few campus buildings.)
It made me pretty happy and I def. took it as a sign!
88.7 wncw plays them from time to time
Sweet my sister said she heard them on a Charlotte, NC station. I'm prett sure they were playing Chile too.
Since they have been appearing in places they haven't really been before (rolling stone and stuff) I'm sure that they will proably be popping up an radio stations they haven't been on before, either. I'm wondering if this will include non-college or non "alternative" music stations.
I heard Chittlin' the other day while buying groceries at Food Lion.
That's all I've got.
100.5 FM here in Birmingham has had 'Shame', 'Paranoia' and 'Murder In The City' in regular rotation for the past six or seven months. I've also been hearing a good minute-long promo spot they've been running the past month promoting the show tonight in town. It's pretty sweet.
I was going to say the same thing, i've heard them pretty often on 100.5, and I don't even listen to the radio that often. So obviously, they must be played alot.
This past winter I was on a first date, and pretty early in the evening my Avett obsession had come up. She had never heard of TAB, and I think she was thinking I was pretty weird for my TAB fanaticism. Anyway, we ended up in a local pub having a beer and damned if I don't realize all the sudden that I'm humming along to Dancing Daze. I was like "oh this is that band I love!! The Avett Brothers!" I always figured that I didn't seem quite as crazy at that moment.
Oh, the pub was playing some kind of satellite radio, so apparently there's some satellite radio station that's playing TAB sometimes.
hey timdog...did you get a second date???
I've never heard them except on satellite radio... Radio needs to step it up!
88.7 here in Western NC plays them a lot more than just from time to time. Sometimes once a day, and they seem to have most of their catalog in the library. I even heard the live version of Jenny and the Summer Day off of Double Door Inn one time. The last 2 years in a row they have won #1 in the Top 100 Albums of the Year for The Second Gleam and Emotionalism, respectively. They played both albums from start to finish several times. Also, they played Tear Down the House and Murder in the City about a month before the EP came out. In fact, I never would have heard of the Avett Brothers (at least not for a good while longer) if it weren't for randomly hearing I Would Be Sad on WNCW one day.
I have yet to hear any Avett music in Chicago. I'm guessing that I will soon though!
WMVY here in MA plays the Avetts from time to time. They got a lot of play when Emotionalism first came out.
We have an amazing radio station here in Wilmington- 106.7 The Penguin. I have a couple friends who dj for them and they play Avett Brothers regulary. Usually Murder in the City or Swept Away. I have heard a couple others on there too. I call in almost every night to my friend Nikki and she usually plays me whatever Avett song i request. I always try to get SundayRehab's station when i'm heading down I-40 but haven't been able to pick it up yet.
SundayRehab you are the patron saint of TAB in greensboro in my opinion. thanks so much for the play on wqfs man.
"hey timdog...did you get a second date???"
Yeah, I did, but she quickly realized that I was as crazy as I appeared. Shoot!!
The Indy station 92.3 plays them from time to time. If you call in to request them some of the DJ's act like they don't have them, others put them on right away!
