UCLA show - BIG disappointment

Okay i'll probably hear it from this one but here it goes. I went to UCLA last night to see them open for Keith Urban. I'm not a Keith fan and definitely was there for the Brothers. And was treated to a whopping 25 minute set. 25 MINUTES!!! Are you kidding me? I paid $250 for floor tickets just to see them and my seats weren't even warm before they were off.

They sounded fine, don't get me wrong. But come on! A whopping 3 songs off the new album and NOTHING off Emotionalism. There was no time! This really burned my hide and turned it from an evening that i was really looking forward to, to a real bummer of a time. Luckily K.U. put on a great show cause the Brothers show really bummed me out. I'm guessing it was either contractual and i'm sure it doesn't hurt to be in good with someone of that stature. Or maybe because they were due across the country in 24 hours for another show. But at the expense of their loyal fans??? I really hope that they think about these fans next time before they sign on for something like that because we are a devoted bunch willing to spend our hard-earned money to follow them (and concerts in LA aren't exactly cheap). But to exploit that and put forth a sad excuse for a set is not the way to treat those fans. If you're gonna try to bring them in, at least give them their money's worth. And if circumstances don't allow for that, please consider not signing on next time. Really a HUGE disappointment. Too bad cause i really love their music and have followed them for about two-plus years.

it was definitely not the brother's decision. clearly they were told they only had a certain amount of time to play. if you want to see the avetts play for two hours, go see an avett show. not a grammy fundraiser that they are only opening for

decide what to be and go be it.

Agree with Zach. They were the opener, not the headliner, of course they are not going to play a full set. You're money got you TAB opening for Keith Urban. Not TAB. They are not exploiting anyone, they are getting their name out there, which is why they did it in the first place.

I would also imagine they accepted the slot because it was a fundraiser. Which could also explain why the tickets were pricey: to raise money.

It seems as though there is no destination for us… just a passing through and a disappearing when it is our time.

Yep, I have also learned this lesson the hard way. After having similar experiences I never go to shows where the band I want to see is opening. Nothing worse than an inattentative crowd and a short set.

It appears that Sony is really starting to promote TAB. I have mixed emotions about it.

Just to point out, once again, that this was a benefit, and one for art, sport, and music for young people. To those of you hurt that you didn't get a full set from a band "supporting" the main act: Suck it up.
Perhaps it would have been wise to know what you were getting into before you put out the big bucks. I'll best the kids who benefited from this aren't complaining.

Since this was my first Avett Brothers concert, I wasn't disappointed! Even though it was a short set, I thoroughly enjoyed it. Smiling It gave me a taste of how great a headlining Avett Brothers concert can be. I went to the concert by myself and felt a bit out of place since I was the only one in my section really enjoying the music. I can't wait until October when they are back in LA and I get to be with fellow TAB fans. I also got to meet the guys beforehand and grab a picture with them. They are the nicest guys and so thankful and appreciative of their fans.

I agree with the other posters... the proceeds went to charity! And seeing the kids perform with Keith Urban later in the evening was worth it. The kids were having the time of their lives and got to show off their talents. Smiling

I also am really, really disappointed............................that anyone would expect a full set from an opener or think the opener controls the time they have on stage or would plunk down $250 to see ANYONE other than a reunion of the Beatles (all of them) with Jimi and Jannis making guest appearances. Another nominee for Best First Post.

WHEN THE TAB OPENED FOR DAVE THATS HOW I BECAME A FAN AND HAVE SEEN THEM 4 TIMES NOW AND BOUGHT OR BURNED EVERYTHING THEY HAVE PLUS I'M BIDDING ON A SHIRT ON EBAY SO YEAH I'D SAY OPENING FOR OTHER ARTISTS IS DEF IN THERE FAVOR AND IS A GREAT WAY TO MAKE NEW FANS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!NOT TO MENTION A LOT OF DUDES I KNOW (AND FEMALES TO) HAVE ALL BECOME FANS KINDA HARD NOT TO WHEN YOU HEAR THEM OR SEE THEM LIVE IF YOU KNOW WHAT I MEAN SO YEAH HANG IN THERE BRO AND HOPE YOU GET TO SEE THEM DO A FULL SET SOON!!!!!!!!!!

I was also disappointed the first time i went to see TAB open for Dave Matthews Band in Atlanta. It wasnt the fault of the brothers, the set was an appropriate length but the sound was awful at my seats (people down front seemed to have good sound) and the crowd around me of about 20 college/high school students wanted to talk about drinking games and hot chicks. I have never been disappointed sense. I dont know if every show gets better than the last or if each show leaves me in such antisipation for the next one that i couldnt be let down but either way i dont see how anyone can be disappointed after a full Tab show. Good luck @ your next concert.
