What else do you listen to?

What else do you listen to?

Since seeing The Avett Brothers on Austin City Limits they are practically ALL I listen to. I’m starting to feel like a crazy virtual stalker and need to widen my selection. What do you listen to besides the Avett Brothers.

I'm not really musically educated. I just got an IPod for Christmas and thought I wouldn’t use it. Now I keep it with me everywhere. I watch less TV and do more homework when I’m listening, so this particular brand of crazy might be a good thing. Smiling

Music I used to listen to; Brandi Carlile, Joe Pug, James McMurtry, John Prine, Willy Porter, Amos Lee. I have to thank my husband for saving me from Top 40. He keeps up with what’s good, not popular.

Replies for this Board Topic

Pretty much just TAB, to be honest. When I'm not listening to them, it's probably Death Cab for Cutie and others similar to them here and there. TAB is in their own genre for me and I'm perfectly happy with that.

My current favorites: Langhorne Slim, The Cave Singers, Deer Tick, Hurray for the Riff Raff, Band of Horses, and Or, the Whale.

There have been a few other topics asking the same thing...you should definitely search the board history in the general discussion forum. Me personally? Check out Holy Ghost Tent Revival, Langhorn Slim, Old Crow Medicine Show, The Everybodyfields (unfortunately broken up, but still good), and my brain just stopped working, so I've suddenly forgotten everything else I like, but I'm sure you will find a LONG list of suggestions if you search the boards.

Thanks, I didn't think to search. I'll do that.

The other option to Searching the boards would be to get on Pandora and Last.fm and create an Avett Brothers Station...

A few not metioned:

Sallie Ford and the Sound Outside
The Wood Brothers

I like most of the above (haven't heard all of them),

add the following to your list:

there's more, but you've got enough to keep you busy for a while!

So if ever someone one says to you,
Life isn't fair, get used to it
Then you should say 'Well it might be
If folks like you would let it be"

The first 4 bands listed here are all from the same area in England. I cannot state how much I absolutely love them… I mean it… Mumford and Noah especially… I listen to them daily. Without hesitation, I would recommend buying those two. I listen to an insane amount of music all day (Info Sec nerd who sits at a desk all day), so this is just very small portion of my nearly daily obsession.

Mumford & Sons
Noah and the Whale (Peaceful album is better of the 2 imo)
Johnny Flynn
Laura Marling
Blind Pilot
Ben Sollee (Dear Companion is great)
Langhorne Slim
Paleface
Connor Oberst
Bright Eyes
M Ward
Monsters of Folk
The Kooks
Band of Horses
Okkervil River

...off the top of my head... I'm sure I'm leaving some fav's out

Avetts
Langhorn Slim
The Auctioneers
Town Mountain
Blind Melon
The Wood Brothers
Edward Sharpe & The Magnetic Zeros
MGMT
The Raconteurs
Ryan Adams
etc.....

Really? Wilco hasn't been mentioned yet?

Oh, and Edward Sharpe & The Magnetic Zeros... that's the real deal. Check them out if you haven't yet.

Matt the Electrician has a new album out that is pretty damn sweet, too. http://www.matttheelectrician.com/
