What Harmonica to buy?
What Harmonica to buy?

Really want to try out a harmonica. Was wondering which one the Avetts use in The Fall most importantly. It sounds really high. Is it a high G?
Thanks!

i think it's a C
Whatever key you buy, get a Lee Oskar -- they blow Hohner out of the water. Totally butter to play. Bending notes is so easy you'll almost feel guilty.
I've got four Oskars and two Hohner Special 20s (similar style). The Hohners are good, sure, but the Oskars are GREAT.
But whatever you do, don't get a Hohner Marine Band (one of the most common models). They're more difficult to bend and quickly fall apart. Been playing harp for 30 years, so you can take my word.

I have a Hohner Marine Band and a Hohner Golden Melody. I prefer the Golden Melody. I like the shape better and, unlike the Marine Band, each note requires the same amount of air.
I wouldn't be overly concerned with trying to find one in the exact key of one song.
your best bet is to drop 20 dollars and get the hohner 7 pack. It has 7 harmonicas, in keys of G, A, Bb, C, D, E, and F. They aren't the top grade harmonica but if you don't know how to play there's no point in dropping 30 dollars on one harmonica.

And as far as figuring out which key they use, just look at the guitar chord changes. If you don't know enough theory, just message me and ill let you know what key its in, and show you how to tell yourself
good luck
