It's some fancy ass playing is what it is. Search this site for Late in Life tabs and someone has posted a pretty cool and easy way to play this. It isn't as good as the way Seth plays it in that video though, but it sounds similar.

thanks. all they have on avettbrotherstabs is like G,C,am,D. very simple.

it is actually really simple. he is just sliding on the first fret of the b string and the 2 fret of the g up two frets each and back and then doing the same between the G Am C and D chord progression

Just to add to Zach, for the D chord, Seth plays a fancier variation which is XX0775. (I've written it in EADGBE form and the X's mean don't play or mute).

I know the search function sucks on here, but I recall discussing it in older posts as well. I've gotta get back to work now, but there may be even more info in the older post.

Also, FWIW, Scott plays the exact same "lick" as Seth on the G & B strings of the banjo.

thanks so much. i went back to search but there was like 6 pages. thanks again zach and matty

No worries man. Happy to help.

matty, are those taylor ce series in your profile pic?

Yessir Zach. The left one is a 655ce (12 string) and the one on the right is a 414ce LTD with glossed Imbuia back and sides. I think they can stumble through a few Avett tunes all by themselves by now.

god i have been obsessing over the 414ce. if you are ever looking to sell it, let me know

I honestly think it's one my kids will inherit. I love it. Scrape up those nickels and dimes and get one as soon as you can afford it. It's not a lot of dough if you consider that you'll have it for 50 years or so Eye-wink

The standard 414's are money, but you can often get a bit more guitar for the cash with their limited editions. Different woods often glossed etc...

Zach, also... I'm sometimes at the acousticguitarforum.com

It was formerly the Taylor guitar forum and there are some really knowledgeable folks there. All the American folks on it swear by Jim at guitar rodeo. I forget where he/the store is out of, but he ships all over and some of the deals I've seen are pretty crazy. I don't think anyone can beat his price in combination with knowledge and customer service.

Lemme know if you have any more questions bud.

yeah i signed up for acousticguitarforum a while ago, and i saved up a bunch of money and was going to get either a 314/414, but i decided to study abroad this upcoming summer instead of buying the guitar now. thanks for the heads up though
