WHAT A JOKE!!!

WHAT A JOKE!!!

Wasted a Friday trying to see the Avetts! I can't believe a group that has such a dedicated fan base can agree to fall for such a corporate scam. What idiots would distribute more tickets than a venue could fulfill? It doesn't take a mathematician to know that that large of a crowd could not fit in the Tabernacle. It really took a lot of planning for me to come to Atlanta on a Friday night (driving, paying for parking, babysitter, ect) So disappointed with the Avett brothers for selling out their fans tonight. So many people were turned away; kids even. What a f***ING JIP! Unfortunately I am done with this band. They can suck the corporate tit on their on. Whether it was the Bothers or Samsung, anyone with a brain should know from the beginning that this s*** is wrong. WAHT ABOUT THE FANS???? Have fun with all your money. f*** OFF!

That really is disappointing to hear that folks were turned away.

1,000+ fans were denied entry. 1,000!!! When they announced that capacity had been reached, the line stretched down the block, up the next street, then back behind the venue. Though I am not ready to blame the Avett Brothers entirely, I will never, NEVER support AT&T and SAMSUNG. What were they thinking? The capacity is well known, so why would they continue to accept orders well after the capacity had been reached? I arrived at 5:30 and there were two lines, one for regular ticket holders and one priority (for which only a minimal amount of tickets were available). As I stood there, my guess is that we were around 400-500th in line for a 2500 seat venue. At 7:30 the priority line started moving--except, it was just as long or even longer than the regular line because the late arrivals had no idea which line to be in. I stayed where I was, thinking that the AT&T Samsung people would realize when a few hundred priority ticket holders had entered, but I was mistaken. I should have taken the risk to switch lines, but my wife thought we might get turned away. Eventually our line started moving, and we got within perhaps 100 people from the door when they announced no more room.

I am sure that Scott and Seth have no idea that this happened, and I hope that when they find that they are at least embarrassed that this wonderful opportunity was so poorly managed. In the end, it only amounts to bad feelings and bad press for the band, and that is unfortunate. For what it's worth, my son took the gamble and got in. He texted me that they're giving away phones. Insult to injury. Yes, I will get over this, but it is a shame that The Avett Brothers agreed to this without exercising tighter control over ticket allocation.

I should tell you that each ticket contained multiple warnings about invalid tickets, same as you would expect for any official ticket: "tickets containing cut off names or ticket numbers" "ticket is non-transferable" "must have matching ID" "Expired IDs will not be accepted" "You will not be admitted without proper ID, even if you hold a ticket" and then they say "Admittance is not guaranteed, please arrive early." Well, I did. I was far ahead of where I was for Bright Eyes at the same venue, and not only did I get in, I was front row balcony. I feel sorry for those of you who had travel. Me, it was just a 45 minute trip, $5 parking, and 2 hours of nervous anticipation, followed by an hour of confusion, followed by the rest of my evening here at home, disillusioned. It would be a nice gesture if the Avetts addressed this publicly, and perhaps tried to make amends, though I am not sure how or what that would look like.

Okay, I would like to say that since I got that off of my chest I feel better, but I don't.
Good night.

I totally agree and had a similar experience. My husband would not let me even listen to them on the way home. We invited friends, and paid for a sitter. I wish I had stayed home with my little boy. I stood in line for 3 hours and am still recovering from surgery. So disappointed.

Ouch, Ouch, Ouch. Can't wait to hear from some of those folks close to TAB about this debacle.

We just got home from downtown Atlanta. We went early, got in line, waited in the wrong line for a time, then waited in another line for another long time, then right when we began moving toward the door, the place hit it's capacity limit and we realized our fear all along was true...this show was oversold. Now, my husband was angry at first and I was sad. He attempted to talk to one of the guys at the door as we were making our way to the $10 parking spot our car was in. We were disappointed it all went down that way and that we wasted a perfectly good evening. But...

It was just one of those things, life isn't fair, but we feel we have much, much to be thankful for regardless. The weather was gorgeous, we couldn't have asked for a more beautiful evening to be outside. We enjoyed all those in line around us and once again we got to know some new Avett fan/friends. We've stood in lines like this in Indianapolis, Chicago, St Louis, Columbus, etc and we've never YET met an Avett fan who was rude or unfriendly. Moreover, on a weekend that we are remembering so much loss of innocent life, we enjoyed safe travel and secure surroundings to and from the venue on a very busy Friday night at rush hour in a large city. So, we'll keep our perspective straight.

Sure, there's lots to be disappointed about. But we do not believe the band had any control over how this was handled. The Avett Brothers are good to their fans, they always have been. Their integrity and good character runs deep and we refuse to let this one disappointing situation cause us to have doubts about them. They are fair and honest men and they always give more than they take. We do not hold them responsible. We refuse to harbor bitter feelings about tonite. That would be the second wrong and who needs that? We're moving past it.

As a mom, I sure do empathize with the angry feelings people have. I sure do remember making arrangements many a time; getting a sitter for our four kids when they were little in order to have a night out to see a favorite band. I sure did hate it when I went to a good deal of trouble and expense and things out of my control went wrong and I was left holding the short end of the stick and feeling like an idiot. I sure do understand. I might have reacted in anger ten or twenty years ago as well. I definitely understand how that feels.

We're thankful the band came home safely from their European tour and had a few weeks off to spend with their families before hitting the road for a particularly brutal schedule starting next week. They agreed to do this Samsung thing right in the middle of some much, much deserved time off. Of course they got paid. I'd never begrudge them that. They are one very hard working band.

We're gonna let it go. We'll see the Brothers next time they come to town! Smiling

I am one of the MANY people who was not allowed entrance to the show tonight. I had a ticket, and hadn't even made it around the BACK of the building before we were told to go home. What a complete waste of an evening... not to mention all the time I spent stalking the website to get tickets in the first place! The event page on Facebook has (conveniently) disabled their wall. I have been contacting them every other way I know how to let them know just how frustrated and disappointed I am. I don't blame The Avett Brothers, and could never turn in my fan card, but the promoters in charge of ticketing this event need to feel the wrath. They even said on Facebook that they've "never had to turn anyone away" from one of these shows. The way this entire event has been handled- from start to finish- is completely unprofessional and unacceptable. We need to make sure we let Samsung and AT&T know that!

This entire event was a disaster. I was in line 3 hours before the doors opened, and by the time i got in, the place was full. The show was supposed to start at 8, and it didnt start until almost 10. I really really hate samsung and at&t now.

Sad to hear how disastrous this event was. But you have to keep in mind that it was a free show. The Avett Brothers can't really be blamed for trying to give their fans an opportunity to see them live for free.

Sour grapes

I had a registered ticket and got there at 2:30 and was the fourth person in line and was all the way up in the third balcony. I'm glad I got in but I thought there was only supposed to be 400 priority tickets. That was definitely more than 800 people let in the priority side.

When I first saw the announcement for this concert, my first reaction was that it was too good to be true and that there was something fishy about it -- note to self: always listen to that inner voice! Well, b/c it had to do with my favorite band ever, I threw caution to the wind and took the bait. It was mine and my husband's anniversary. We got a sitter, drove 45 min into town, paid the $10 parking, stood in line for 2 1/2 hours (mind we are not spring chickens) and then got turned away. After all the fun and good times the Avetts have brought us over the past few years, we definitely have to consider this just bump in an otherwise glorious love affair with this band. Shame on the organizers of this event -- they totally hosed over a 1,000 people. Someone else posted that they were sorry to have missed out being at home with their little boy and I felt the same way. I could have been at home with my daughter instead of being a part of that crap. The only positive thing was that I loved all the people watching while in line. Was painful to walk away knowing that my band was so close but so out of reach!

Knowingly jumping in the priority line without priority tickets is a douchey thing to do. It seems a lot of fans are guilty of helping this become the disaster it was for so many. Congratulations me1st, for being a part of that. Your user name is fitting.

I don't get the whole "screw the avett's cause blah,blah,blah..." Unfortunate situation but highly doubt TAB was behind the scene's rubbing their "greedy" hands together. The boys were probably behind the scenes raisin hell about the whole problem but we will never know because they are very modest and humble men. I'm sure amends will be made.

While I think it's kinda crappy for non-priority ticketholders to get in the priority line, it has nothing to do with how poorly this was all clearly handled. They should've gotten into the venue either way, whether earlier or later. The fault there lies squarely on whoever was checking tickets (venue? promoters? I don't know who does these things.) If they were managing the lines and making sure people knew where to go and checking tickets as they should've, it wouldn't be an issue. And while I'm sure a certain amount of people with tickets no-show at any show, it can't be a very large amount, and there would've been plenty of people, I'm guessing, who were walk-ups that would've taken their places, so it still would've been a full house, which I'm sure was the goal. Whoever made the decision to oversell this show (Samsung/AT&T? The promoters? again, I don't know) is who bears the blame for this debacle.Turning away any fans with tickets is bad business, and unethical, in my opinion. Despite the warnings, didn't the event page say they've never turned anyone away? And when you think about the effort people go to to attend a show, it's just a crappy situation to expect people to get tickets (which is never easy when they sell out so quickly), arrange their schedules (work, kids, school, etc.), get to the venue at a cost (parking, public transportation, etc) and spend what is likely a couple hours in line, on average, without any guarantee of getting in. Why would they even do that? It's misleading to even sell tickets. If it was going to be like this, they shouldn't have even bothered with tickets, because that gave a lot of people false hope. If you sell tickets, there is an assumption that ticketholders should get in, in my opinion. So selling tickets but then covering them with warnings that they really don't guarantee anything is BS. I doubt the band had any idea that this was the situation, and couldn't have foreseen it being such a mess, however, I hope they don't involve themselves in situations like this in the future. I have no doubt they won't. I never have, and still don't doubt their integrity and loyalty to their fans. I'm really sorry to all of you that were turned away, that's very frustrating.

ETA: I think it's great to offer a free show, but to many of us, it isn't about the money, we'd gladly pay. It doesn't change the fact that the situation was poorly handled, and still resulted in frustration and disappointment for a lot of people.

So disappointed. We took off work early, drove 3 hours from North Carolina and was in the priority ticket line and still didn't get in. I had my 9 year old neice with me who had her heart broken with tears streaming down her face when they turned us away. Can't believe that so many more tickets than available seats were distributed. I would have much rather paid for the tickets and had a guarantee to get in than free tickets with no entry. Sad, sad day.

You're right Chili, and my point may be moot, I just feel that knowingly screwing fellow fans was poor form.

Thank you yellowbandit. You took the words right out of my mouth re:line cutters. What a very non-Avett fan thing to do.

I'm chalking this up as a rule-followers nightmare. First the VIP tix which were already gone at one second after 10:00, then the big line debacle for those of us who stayed in the right line. With all those disclaimers and rules on the tickets about matching IDs and non-transferrable, blah, blah, I thought the door would be locked down like Fort Knox and it never entered my mind they would be so lax in letting people in (and I honestly don't know who "they" are in this case, but the blame rests squarely on the shoulders of AT&T and Samsung). I was baffled at the number of people in the VIP line but now it makes sense. And good lord, I would really like to know how many tickets they gave out. I was under the clearly mistaken impression they had distributed 1000 non-VIP tix and 400 Priority (perfect for the size of the Tabernacle), and I thought they'd just let in non-ticketholders to fill it up IF there was any room left. That would make sense, right? But no. Sigh. When they came around saying "go home - no more room, " we just stood there in denial for a long time. We did get a big laugh out of the person who then yelled out, "I want my money back!!!" So on the up side, it felt great outside, it was fun seeing other Avett fans (and 1 ridiculously drunk girl), and I had 3 hours to catch up with a good friend as we waited in line. But I was really looking forward to seeing TAB in such a nice small venue so that was disappointing. I have nothing but pure love for the band and I will gladly stick with paid ticketing for the many times I hope to see them in the future. As for AT&T and Samsung, no thanks. Wait a minute, I think I have a Samsung TV. Dammit!

Not sure who owes us an apology...AT&T, Samsung, TAB, or all of the above, but someone sure does. We rushed out of work, got in line over 2 hours before the doors were supposed to open, waited in line for 3 hours, and were turned away. The whole time I was waiting in line I did not see one person who worked there or was in charge of organizing the event, getting things in order, etc. Besides the people perched right in front of the doors of the Tabernacle, I did not see one person that worked for Samsung, AT&T, the venue, etc. telling people the event had reached capacity....kind of just heard the news from other angry fans. No organization whatsoever. And it seems like horrible public relations to issue that many more tickets than the venue can hold. This was intended to be a promotional event, but ended up as a huge PR nightmare...leaving 1000+ people ticked off is probably not the way to go. Hope someone higher up in AT&T and Samsung hears about this.

I got there at 1:30ish and was 5th or so in the priority line. They had three people scanning tickets at the priority door when I went in. They were having some problems scanning, but when I went in, they were checking every ticket for the priority flag in the corner, checked all of our IDs, and made us point out our guest. Even at the front of the line, there was a huge group of, well, older people actually, who tried to cut the line. Some guy either with the venue or Samsung rounded them up and made them go to the back of the line and barricades were placed around the line. There was every indication that everything would go smoothly, if slowly. at that point. I don't know WHAT happened after that, except for the obvious over distributing of tickets.

Yeah I got there at 1pm and was first in the Priority line. So I'm guessing I may have met you ashleybb. It all seemed pretty organized when we went in. Though I was incredibly happy getting to be up front directly in front of Scott, I spent the whole annoying promo time texting back and forth with people in the Registered Line who weren't getting in. Due to a last minute illness of a friend, I my group ended up with an extra priority ticket, but none of us felt right about having someone cut the line at the last minute. It wouldn't have been fair to the lovely people who waited there all day with me and my friends.

Was it you birthday? Smiling If so, I was the girl directly behind you at the show with long hair, a Bon Iver shirt and a septum ring. Smiling You guys were very sweet and it was nice meeting you.

It was my friend's birthday. I was the girl singing and playing guitar out there for a while. Curly brown hair, light pink shirt, and a long vest. It was great to meet you all too! I just love how friendly Avett fans can be. I hope I see you all at the next show!

Well, can't say I didn't see this coming. Not to make light of the awful situations some of you folks were in regarding getting turned away. I went to bed last night feeling kind of dumb for staying home since it WAS a TAB concert after all, but it sounds like I probably wouldn't have gotten in anyway. I'm really sorry to hear about those who made long drives and arranged babysitters etc.

Something odd I was thinking though: Is it just me or is Atlanta a curse for the Avetts? First the disappointed people from the Braves Meet and Greet (which I attended) and now this.

I was thinking that, too, Nick! Their last two shows in Atlanta both seemed to have been a bit of a debacle. Thinking they need to come back and do a normal show as soon as possible.

My first Avett show was at Chastain in Atlanta about a year ago, and it was epic. I think they need to stick with that venue.

By the way, to the girl trying to give everyone chapstick in the middle of the show, thanks. If not for you I would have never thought about how to murder someone with a tube of chapstick.

I think the only way to remedy this situation, which is wishful thinking, is to do a 2nd show and only allow those that didn't get in to go. If it is even possible. I mean, there must be a way to figure it out, considering they have all of our email addresses, and we were all scanned in a computer database, they must know whose tickets were scanned and not? TAB did something similar for Settlers/Austin show, right?
Like I said, wishful thinking, because I am sure Att & Samsung would lose their a**es in doing so.

@ashleybb Indeed, I would definitely show up and love a regular show performed here without gimmicks.

@waylonhawkins That was my first live show actually as well! I forgot about the fact it was also in Atlanta, good point.

Thank you to everyone who attended The Avett Brothers show last night. We apologize for those who did not gain entry. This was not the fault of The Avett Brothers nor the sponsors who's intentions were to provide a free concert experience for fans. Unfortunately, the promoters underestimated the incredible fan response making it impossible to accommodate everyone for this performance. We hope that the fans will appreciate the well intended efforts of a free concert. Thank you for your patience and understanding.

So I did get in but an hour and 45 minute commercial for AT&T and SAMSUNG?? Really? That was really unnecessary. The brothers were great but had I known I was going to have to wait an hour and 45 minutes before the band came on and got to watch a douchebag try to be funny I probably would not have gone.

My wife and I showed up at 7:30pm with priority access and were wrapped all the way around the block in the priority line. We were talking with the people in front and behind us and they did not have priority access tickets, but said they were just going to go for it. I was completely clueless about the whole process. Why wasn't there anyone walking around the venue telling everyone which line was which and what time we could expect to start moving? I think the stage manager was severely understaffed (he did do a great job though!). Stressful situation.

When we made it up to the door, I saw the guys kick out at least 12 people who did not have the priority access tickets. Therefore, those that are mad at the guys checking tickets should take some solace that they did the best they could. Apparently, that me1st guy slipped through the cracks.

I also want to thank the Avett Bros. for dedicating the song, "Murder in the City" to Brittany. It brought tears to my ears and my incessant cheering and clapping came to a halt. At Brittany's funeral, there was a card with a quote from this song. It was her favorite Avett song, and for them to recognize that and saying the song was for Brittany was amazing. Thank you Seth and Scott.

“the promoters underestimated the incredible fan response making it impossible to accommodate everyone for this performance”

That’s a ridiculously weak explanation. The promoter that SAMSUNG used for this event knew the capacity of the venue and they knew how many tickets they were giving out. Had they only given out as many tickets as the space would hold there would have been zero problems. It sure seems simple to me. If a lot of people did not show up to use their tickets they could have let some fans in that didn’t have tickets. That way people would have been thrilled at their good luck. The way you guys played it out seamed designed to make thousands of people unhappy. Unfortunately for Samsung, it was your event. The buck stops with YOU.

As for the long pre-show commercial. That was to be expected and a small price to pay for a free Avett show. I didn’t enjoy it but it was no big deal.

Dear Summer Krush Promotions:
-Your 100 word apology has made all the difference in the world. I feel much better--so much so in fact that I intend to switch my service to AT&T, get a new Samsung phone, and buy the entire back catalog of Avett Brothers CDs again because, well... I am just so appreciative, patient, and understanding.

Never miss a show this close to home. SO glad I picked Norfolk instead. So sorry guys, I would have been heartbroken.

I, too, was shut out when there were only 50 people in front of me until the entrance. My group and I had arrived at 530 and it seemed we had a pretty good chance but it became obvious at the end of the night was because of people skipping and cutting in line, which is half disrespectful on their part, but somewhat understandable, but half and mainly Samsung and AT&T's fault for lack of organization. When I heard the news, I literally lost it and full on cried. And for those of you that stuck around, my friend was the one that busted open the side door that lead to the stairway that we and about 15 other folk rushed up in hopes of sneaking in the show. Despite the fact it got us now where except leaving the Tabernacle with a broken door, we all decided if there's any way not to get into the free Avett Bros show, that would be it. Only solace left now is listening to The Gleam II.

And btw, dont blame The Bros, blame corporate Samsung & AT&T.

Sounds like you're lucky you didn't leave the show in a cop car...

This would have been a different story if it was Apple & Verizon Winter Phling series.

I was at a free Strokes show earlier this year at SXSW and when they told people to go home because they were at max, they tore the fence down with a stampede. This was an outdoor show though... We showed up like 4 hours early and had no problem. Gotta get there hella early for free shows. If you take a risk and drive far and/or get a baby sitter, that's a risk you take for a free show. Even riskier when you factor in all of the pre-show confusion about whether or not people would be getting in.

Sounds like the superfans had the right idea by getting there at 1pm.. whew, now that's a long day!

If you got a ticket, you should get in. Period. Glad I didn't go down there because I am not the person to wait in line all day.

so glad i'm still on hiatus! it may be a long one.

The blame for this debacle lies squarely on the shoulders of Samsung/ATT and THEIR corporate greed! Fair weather fans are like fair weather friends...who needs 'em?!! I was hesitant to bother with this one, having been to 15 shows that I willingly paid whatever their asking for, but thought what the heck, worth a try. It was mishandled from the get go, with the priority tickets coming online before 10 am stated time, but I managed to get the regular ones, only to print them out and see the non-guarantee disclaimer. I was even more hesitant at that point to make the 4 hour trek form Charlotte, book a hotel, etc., but loving the boys like I do, it still felt worth doing. I was reassured, when the Samsung people posted the following in response to all of the confusion on their Facebook page: "We have yet to turn anyone away" That is what I needed to give me some faith in going. I probably would have chucked the notion otherwise. They then picked me off, but issuing even more "priority" tickets later as that was really unfair to those holding the potentially useless general "tickets". They should have just offered upgrades or something to those people. They also should have gotten some inkling from all of the posts, as to the dedication and potential demand of Avett fans, especially in the South!!!
So, we arrived to the already long line at about 5:30 pm, for an 8 door, which I consider fairly early, as per Samsungs recommend. As the line kept growing we got concerned when we did the math. 400 priority X 2 per ticket =800. Some 1000 others issued, presumably X 2. Doing the math with the Tab. holding 2500ish, we felt like we would atleast get in and be happy for it. Indeed, they could have send someone out to explain the lines or something as I do believe people just kept sauntering up and finding a place as there was no official direction. Two lines wrapping the entire blocks surrounding, going in different directions = clusterf*%#! Some hope as the lines start to move after 8, but as we got to about 30 back from the door, some Live Nation guys started walking up and down te lines, that still circled the venue, saying the show was sold out and please leave! We were in a state of disappointment and denial at that point, but we did know that the possibility had existed that we wouldn't get in, so we couldn't really be pissed off or anything. Most people left at that point and there were some people smashing their phones and such, but how stoopid is that, and who does tha really hurt, so anyway, still in denial and without a plan B, we just hung out at the barricade with some other disappointed, but good spirited fans, not wanting to let go the dream that something might happen and we'd get lucky somehow on Lucky St. That's when a girl behind us, pushed on the side door and it opened! I didn't think she broke it or exerted much force, but some of us that were right there, might a split second decision to go in the door. Had we been able to sgain entry, I would not have felt bad at all, given the circumstances, but we headed upstairs and were promptly escorted out, rather nicely, I might add, since I believe, they knew that the venue had messed up buy not locking the door and they didn't want to make a big deal out of it. The sec. guys even joked with us saying that if we had gone to the right instead of upstairs, we would have made it in! So that led us to start talking to one of Atlanta's finest police officers, who was now stationed there, and we were just telling him how bummed we were that we had travelled the 4 hours, got the hotel etc, which he was very surprised to hear! He then said how many are with you, we said 3 and he left saying, he'd see what he could do, but no promises! This gave us a small amount of hope, so we we stuck around and her the roar of the crowd, knowing that the show had started. Again, everyone outside was pleasant and people who were just arriving were surprised to find out what was going on (gimme a break) So after what seemed like an eternity, my friend turned on her heel and said 'C'mon, let's go" to my surprise! I started to say, "wait, what" only top see the officer we had talked to walking ahead of her! What I didn't know, was that he had walked past her, gave her a "come this way nod" and luckily. I followed. He then escorted us, behind the theater, where the event staff, said, 'You 3 are so lucky, if it weren't for him you would not be here! We are gonna let you in, and you must walk directly past the stage and onto the floor, without stopping or entering the stage or anything" We were in absolute shock and awe and walked 5 feet from Joe, past the stage and down onto the floor , where they positioned us about 4 rows in!!!!! Yes, I know we were very fortunate, but we were also politely persistent and
that, I believe coupled with the magic that is the Avett Brothers, is why we got in!
Had we not gotten in, I would not have held any negative feeling towards the AVETT'S at all! They are and always have been, EXTREMELY generous with their fans! Even the venues people were all decent, so again, ATT and Samsung mishandled and misjudged the Avett fan base. I hope that they have learned something for future reference, but I kinda doubt it. I don't really understand, what they hope to gain through promotional things like this, but I am sure they realize this one, probably turned way mare people off than it gained for them!
I don't know why Bob was not there, but to me it was huge, that they managed to carry this off, in such grand Avett energy and style, whatever the reason. We also happily waited outside at the bus until 12:30, hoping they might comeout, but it wasn't meant to be, can't always get what you want, but you still gotta try, or you NEVER will!
I am so sorry, for those, who didn't luck out like we did, especially the people with kids and such and I would be reallllllly peeved, if I had a "guaranteed" ticket and was denied entry! Those are the people that should be given some sort of amend, not by the brothers, but by the promoters! I just wanted to share my story and say that I will always be a fan of these guys and their magic, come what may and I do hope that the powers that be will see the errors and make changes to avoid something like this ever happening again!

Agreed!

1. I was lucky enough to get the priority tickets.
2. I would not have flown in from Boulder, CO had I not scored them. I felt I cut it close landing at 6 and cabbing directly to the TAB.
3. Even too many of the guaranteed entry priority tickets were distributed. And when they released an additional 200 that was a bad move, and especially unfair to those with regular tickets.
4. Yes the regular tickets were branded as entry not guaranteed, but I too would have been bummed out had I been turned away.
5. The line outside was poorly managed and I was worried even being in the early entry line.
6. Down with the Shine & Cedar Lane made the show for me.
7. The extendo-commercial vibe was disgusting and was the trade off for the free event.

Debacle and rule followers nightmare are two great ways to describe Friday night. I started in the priority line because someone told me that the two lines had merged and that was where I should go. After standing there for 20-30 minutes and hearing multiple times that it really was the priority line I decided it was best to go ahead and move to the regular line. I am curious as to if the people with regular tickets standing in front of me in the priority line ended up getting in. At least I have a clear conscious.

Needless to say.... but after driving 5 hours and standing in line for about 2 1/2 I was very dissappointed at not getting in. I agree with @sundayrehab above...that explanation is ridiculously weak considering the INSANE amount of people still standing outside when they told us that it was full. Maybe if it was just a handful I could understand but to underestimate by that many is really bad planning.

Never even thought to blame the Avetts for this one. Just hoping some good karma comes my way and someone wants to sell me some fabulous seats to the Greensboro show I really want to go to:)

I'd like to have proof of validity of the Summer Krush account made for the use of posting on the forums. One post made. No replies. I highly doubt that it's legit....especially with a lame blanket statement of a "oops. someone dropped the ball".

I'm firing an email to the Tabernacle for the lack of organization at the venue. They have contracts set up for security at events, and they evidently didn't staff it at all. During my 2+ hours waiting, I didn't see ONE person directing ANYONE on where to go. The only person I ever saw was a Livenation guy with a radio telling everyone it was sold out.

I'm gonna look into contacting more. This was the most disheartening experience I've ever had in terms of concerts.

I'll buy samsung for tv's and monitors, but I'm sticking with my HTC that's not on AT&T.

Don't be upset with the band. They, much like their fans, have learned from this event. You know the band, the label, Dolph, etc all care deeply for the fans and don't want to disappoint any of them. Hopefully everyone will learn from this and do what it takes to prevent such mayhem from happening again.

"And they may pay us off in fame
But that is not why we came
And if it compromises truth then we will go"

They weren't kidding when they wrote those lines.

@lovewritesaletter
Man. I saw you guys do that to the door and I thought "I should stick around those people"
But my back and feet were killing me and I was exhausted and disappointed.
I'm so glad you guys got in.
Those cops seemed to be very nice.

Heres some cheese to go with all this wine. you missed a concert.

whine, dude. not wine.

That seriously sucks to everyone who tried to go & got denied. I honestly don't think free shows are ever a good idea, for any band, logistics wise. I don't know why promotors still try it when it seems to always end in disappointed people. Hopefully the majority of you will (or have) seen them this year. Smiling

I was lucky to have priority tickets. We drove down from Asheville after I got off work, and I didn't stop to pee for 2 states because I was so nervous about getting there by the supposed 7:30 cutoff for priority entry. We got in, and we had an awesome show.

Simply? I think both the fans and the promoters completely underestimated how many people would show up for this event. Avetts fans SHOW UP. Period. I think in every other situation, Summer Krush has been able to over-distribute tickets without a problem. (Like when you're planning a wedding, you assume 20-25% of those you invite won't come.) In fairness, it was well-publicized that more tickets were distributed than could be guaranteed entry. I wouldn't have made that drive had I not had my guaranteed ticket and been able to get there by 7:30. It was clear by the arguably poor management of the line that Summer Krush really didn't realize that many people would show up. But we love our band.

In my little area of the priority line, where I chilled for a good 1.5 hours or so (still having to pee...), no one was letting anyone cut in line. People with priority access were even turning away friends who had registered tickets and directing them to the proper line. If anyone cut, I honestly think it was a very few. But I don't know. I'm just going by what I saw.

Of the "1000" fans that got turned away (don't know the source of that number), many of them showed up waaaaay later than necessary for a free show without guaranteed entry. I mean, even at a "normal," ticketed Avetts show, people start camping out at noon or earlier at the venue, just to get a good spot. And you thought you could show up at 5:30 and definitely get in? Please. I saw people straggling into the registered line at 7:45.

Honestly, I think it was kind of cool that Samsung and AT&T, by giving the link and the priority code to the fan club, attempted to ensure that a good half or so of the people in that venue were fan-club members. I appreciate that, and I appreciated the free ticket. Lashing out at Summer Krush like a spoiled child is, frankly, in bad taste, and lashing out at the Avetts is FOR SHAME. Seriously.

It's about calculated risk, not entitlement, y'all.

But I hope you get to a show this year. See you in VA, TN, and NC this fall!
