Thanks to everyone who came out to Merlefest yesterday. Collectively we broke the Merlefest Sunday attendance record, and we had a lot of fun in the process.
We took the above picture to commemorate the occasion, so we hope you can find yourself in the photo (next time we'll shout "squeeze in" a little louder).
Merlefest...what a great festival and to end it with TAB...awesome! Yall made the heat bearable, cause it was HOT out there! My wife and I got to take our 3 year old daughter with us...It was a great experience being music lovers and being able to share the experience with our daughter, who likes TAB as much as we do! Our daughter danced and sang with the brothers...made me proud! great set too. Loved the slower version of the Traveling Song...great opener! Just like the rest of the TAB shows I've seen, the only complaint that I have is that the show had to end sometime! Thanks for coming back and playing NC...hope to see another NC show sooooon.
PS. thanks for the friendly folks behind us, who helped us build a tent out of their lawn chairs so that my little girl could get some shade. that meant a lot and it was really sweet. Thank You.
I have to say I was super excited to see my first ever Avett Brother show at MerleFest after being a fan for a while, and it exceeded my expectations. I had the most fun. The heat and exhaustion was well worth it. Already can't wait for next year!
Congrats on breaking the attendance record for sunday...It was so miserably hot, but when the brothers took the stage, all the misery of heat exhaustion left...It was an amazing set...wish they could have played all day...I hope you guys play again soon..Thanks for a great time!!!!
Wow! My first time seeing you perform and my first time at Merlefest even though I just live up the road in Boone. I have been on a high ever since Sunday. The show was truly amazing. The atmosphere of Merlefest is so great, so many people from all generations and backgrounds, so much energy in the crowd and on the stages, its really hard to describe. It was one of the best days I can remember and thinking about it, which has been constantly, puts a huge smile on my face. I wish I could re-live it. Seth and Scott, my sister and I got to meet you after the show outside the bus and you were so gracious and willing to take photos and sign autographs. I was so stunned to actually be meeting you all I could manage to say was, "can we get a picture with you". I don't know if you guys read these comments, but what I wish I had said was that the show was awesome, I love your music and appreciate the authenticity of it, I loved the show, I'm so glad you were at Merlefest and hope you will be there again next year, and I had an amazing, amazing time. THANK YOU.
It was a first time at Merle Fest and a first time seein the boys.. Missed y'all at Floyd Fest a couple of years back, But it was made up Sunday. I enjoyed listening to your Dad that Morning too... I enjoyed y'all well worth the sun burn haha and hope to see yea soon
So glad we made the trip from Asheville to Merlefest with the kids. We missed the show here New Years Eve, and I was sooo disappointed, so when I found out about the show in Wilkesboro, I decided we would make a day-trip.
We all loved it, even with the HEAT and HUMIDITY.
Thank you so much for giving everything up on stage. I feel it in your lyrics and your voices, it was amazing to see it on your faces.
And thank you for playing "Go To Sleep" -- we (mostly our kids -- 9 and 4) held up our sign the whole show hoping you would play it, and were so happy to hear it.
Your albums have been our soundtracks for our road-trips the last year. Thank you for your honesty and your heart. Thank you for a show I won't forget.
although we are all so proud and happy the rest of the country now knows how great you all are, it is beyond joyous when these tunes and voices return to NC. in one week i leave the country for a few months, and the songs will folllow me to the warm heart of africa and remind me of that great sunday at merlefest...
I was lucky enough to be third row and you sounded incredible. The sunburn and exhaustion will fade, but the feeling I still have after the show won't. I don't want to go on with the cliche sayings, so I'll just stick with a simple and hopefully understood THANK YOU.
I had no idea how huge the crowd was until I saw pictures afterwards, and while there was screaming and thousands of people singing along with you at the top of their lungs, my favorite moments were those when the crowd seemed silent and we all were there for the music. It cleansed my soul, honestly. Thank you.
OK? What would cause a 56 year old woman to drive 1 hour and 45 minutes, sit in the sun for 3 hours, get sun burned beyond recognition and then wait in a parking lot for over an hour to exit? The Avetts, of course!
Once again, I was entertained to the max by The Avetts. It was a superb day for an Avett Nation lovefest. Despite the heat, The Avetts performed at full throttle. Unbelieveable. I am so thankful that I endured it all because I got to hear two songs I have not heard live. The first was a very moving song (done with so much honor that Roger Miller was smiling down I just know it) called "What Happened To The Average Man?" The second, Doc Watson's, "I Killed Sally's Lover" worked us all into a good old, MerleFest jig dancing, hand clapping and feet stomping time.
The highlight of it all for me was when Bonnie joined her brothers in "Swept Away". As the three cresendoed a harmony that only siblings can do, I happened to look up. Soaring high above The Doc and Merle Watson stage were three hawks. As they circled in unison amist the white clouds, I felt that it just doesn't get any better then this.
I would like to thank everyone for coming out and celebrating my engagement at the show. AND TO MEET AND TALK TO SCOTT, T. SETH AND JOE AT THE FENCE AFTER THEY COOLED OFF WAS THE PERFECT WAY TO END THE DAY!! Thanks to you guys for taking the time to speak with us and sign some things. My soon to be step sons are extatic about Scott's red bandana and T. Seth's wristband!!! JUST AWESOME & PLEASE come to Raleigh as soon as you can!!!

Great Weekend!
A great time was had by all! Y'all should play more "alcohol-free" shows. The crowd is so much nicer, even when they are record-setting!
