I was shocked to hear of what you and your family are going through. As so many have written before, The Avett Brothers music means so much to me and has truly been an inspiration in my life. I mean, my fiance and I had our first date at an Avett concert in Atlanta, GA and we are dancing our first dance at our wedding to Swept Away.

That being said, I find it even more inspiring that you speak of God and hope when reflecting on the pain you have gone through with your daughter. Although there are great medical centers and health care providers who can all help your daughter greatly, ultimately hoping in God and praying to Him, the Great Physician, is the only way to find peace and true healing. Stay strong brother. Looking forward to seeing you reunited with your brothers.

Wow, had no idea. My family and I were wondering where you were at the Milwaukee show. Stories like this really hit home, because my son had a brain injury at 6 months old. It caused him to go totally blind and doctors didn't know if he would get any vision back, they also weren't sure if he would be able to do much of anything. I never did much praying before this incident, but I didn't have any other options. My son slowly started getting some vision back and started hitting his developmental milestones. He will never be able to see perfect - but the fact that he can get around on his own is a miracle. He is now six and in a regular kindergarten setting with little help from aids. About a year ago we I discovered The Avett Brothers. Your band, for some reason, is so special to me, my son, and my father. Riley (my son) knows all the words to every song that you have released. We just went to the Milwaukee show a few days ago and we were all blown away.
I guess what I'm trying to say is that, no matter what happens, things will work out. Never stop praying. I don't really belong to a specific religion, but I do know there is something of a higher power out there! The other thing I was trying to say is Thank You for your great music!!! There is something about your songs that is so POWERFUL and makes me grateful for who I am and what I have!

I just wanted to let you know that I have been praying for you and your family during this difficult time. I recently just had a 3rd brain tumor removed (via craniotomy) 2 days after your GSO show I also wanted to thank you all for the shout out and words of encouragement at your Greensboro show. That was a real shock that brought tears streaming down my face. I never in a million years thought that my favorite musicians would take time out of their own show to support and lift a random fan up in time of need. YOU GUYS ROCK! On Nov. 12th there will be a benefit run for Brain Tumor Awareness in starting in Winston Salem and ending in Greensboro at 106-B College Road, Biminis Oyster Bar. Proceeds will go to towards a holiday party for the Children at Brenners Childrens Hospital. There will be a free band and great food along with hula hoopers and a mobile tye dye unit, hand crafted headbands and jewelry! Come on out and support the cause! I LOVE EVERYTHING YOU DO! stay strong and rock on Hallie... we're all rooting for you!!

I just read your letter about Hallie...I can not begin to express any words of comfort outside of the single words of hope and prayer. Bob, my heart and prayers go out to you, Melanie, and most of all to Hallie. My wife, Tiffany is a nicu nurse and our youngest daughter Kendall had to spend about 4 weeks in the nicu at Erlanger hospital in Chattanooga shortly after she was born due to having a hole in her intestine. the biggest hurdle was the post op sitiuation that she went thru after her surgery which was successful and now Kendall is a normal 2 year old girl will a huge zest for life. Although our situations are very different please keep in mind that children have a way of overcoming gigantic obstacles that they dont even know about. I know that this has to be the lowest of lows of a time in your life. I promise you I have been there, crying and walking into walls wondering what is next. But you have to keep having faith that God will prevail and will come up with a plan that is best for all of you! I have been touched in ways by the music that you, Scott, Seth, and Joe have made over the last few years in ways that you could never imagine and hope to see you back on stage with the brothers again soon in the very near future. My family will keep you in our prayers and hope for a speedy recovery for Hallie and for your family.
