Going off of what has been posted on the board prior, The Mourning, the Silver, the Bell is said to have be written during a very emotional time for Seth (some seem to think it's referring to the break up of Jenny - to which there are several songs written about). Listening to the lyrics of the songs on this album you can almost feel the sadness and make the connection to a break up.

The line in When I Drink: "I lived through the silver and the bell, With something to tell, Just do your best" seems to be Seth's way of saying he made it through a rough time in his life.

Just thought I would share what I have read before.

As far as where Darling came from...I have no clue and have often wondered if the above is true (about the break up) if that could have been a 'pet' name Seth or Jenny had for one another?

I have also read on this board that When I Drink has nothing to do with actually drinking?? But that's another topic I'm sure.
