Grew up in S. Dakota, and mother nature has blessed the state with many wonders... unfortunately there isn't a lot of music that comes through. Now to be fair, I haven't lived in SD for 15 years or so, but I keep an eye and still have friends and relatives there so I try to keep current. There are a few festivals (Deadwood Jam) and the Sturgis Rally that brings a few acts in, but typically more of past their prime, fist pumping type of bands. There will be a few national touring acts that will hit the Civic Center in Rapid City but not much indie/roots/etc... I never understood why more bands didn't play when driving down I-90 but alas...
Gimlik (Spelling??) is active on the boards and lives on the eastern part of the state so he's current and in the know, perhaps he can inform you of other options. While you are in the area their are two local bands worthy of checking out if it arises. Kori and Firefly's (had kind of a U2/Alarm vibe way back in the day, more mellow poppy now) and Janitor Bob (a "Dead"sy cover/good time type) Indigenous (blues and with a guitar playing gem) used to play the area a lot as well.
Ultimately I think you will be hitting the hwy back to CO, but there are few things here and there
and if you haven't used Pollstar, its a reliable resource, www.pollstar.com
