I'm a fan (and you should be too) because they put on a great live show. I had never heard of them until I saw them at the Springfest Music Festival in Live Oak, Florida a few years ago. They came on right after Peter Rowan and Tony Rice (straight-laced-traditional like folk/bluegrass). These guys are instantly jumping up and down, screaming and having a good ol' time. I was sold. Bought every single CD of theirs they had for sale that night. I've been a big fan since.
I saw them last year for a regular show in Tallahassee at the Beta Bar. Aside from the Tom Waits shows, they put on the best live show I've seen in years. Great energy and a real connection with the crowd. My wife didn't want to go since it was just general admission.
I've slowly gotten my wife to come to love their music...her favorite is Emotionalism, where my fave album changes each week. We both finally got to see them together in Tallahassee a few weeks ago at the Moon. It was a great show and she now completely "gets it."
We're hoping to make the New Year's Day show in Atlanta.
As for the Avett Brothers....keep pushing those boundaries...keep honing your art. We're all the better for it!
There were a ton of good new records that came out recently. New Sam Baker came out recently, and then this month new ones by Malcolm Holcombe and Guy Clark. My iPod has mainly been cycling between...
Atlanta show
I logged on at 12:00 and had to keep typing in verification words and then they sold out. Web site very slow. I am very disappointed.
