I'm a fan (and you should be too) because...they're such amazing lyricists! I'm an 8th grade English teacher and I use many of their songs on "Lyrics Friday" to analyze for theme and poetic devices. My students' favorite songs (so far) are "The Ballad of Love and Hate," "I and Love and You," and "Murder in the City." My honors class spent 30 minutes discussing the symbolism and tone and mood in the video for "Head Full of Doubt/Road Full of Promises." There are definitely some new fans in the 13-14 year old age group! Quite a few have told me they download the songs after we discuss them, and many have put the lyrics and videos on their Facebook wall.
I'm looking forward to their analyzation of "Hand Me Down Tune" next week. I'm also looking forward to my first Avett Brothers concert in N. Charleston Feb 12th!
