This is by far my favorite Avett release. The Lowering will always be a very special song for me. When I was 19 years old, my father committed suicide. There has never been a song that hit as close as "The Lowering" for me. The pain was indescribable, like the bittersweet chords of the opening verse.
I'm a fan (and you should be too) because...there is an Avett song that speaks to every moment in life. The ups, downs, and in-betweens (i.e., Tin Man) are all in the songs. I have been following the Avett Brothers for years, and they just sound better with every listen.
I come from a musical family myself. My sisters and brothers and I are all from NC. We all play bluegrass instruments and harmonize. There is just a special magic with sibling harmonies.
