When I first saw the Avetts on a whim, I had no idea what to expect. There was a couple sitting near me, and the woman had evidently seen them before as she was trying to reassure her partner - "Just wait," she urged.

Well, when they came out and started playing, my jaw hit the floor. I only wish I could relive that early experience. The stomping was loud on the small stage. My 10 year old son and I sat mesmerized.

The Avett Brothers have brought my family together, as all three of my kids have been to shows and gotten to meet the guys. Their graciousness is astounding. My wife, too, is a big fan and we've gone to some 'over 21' shows without the kids. Then, there are my 2 sisters whose arms I had to twist to get them to go (fans now) and even my 70 year old mom, who came along to one in '07.

In the car, we can all enjoy Mignonette and laugh about the 'turkey bit,' and have an Avett soundtrack to our occasional trips and vacations. "Salvation Song" on some winding mountain roads - we've had many special times.

As we've watched the band grow, it's hard not to miss some of those early shows we saw in smaller venues. But I'm thankful that we had the chance to join the team early on. I'm not as rabid as some fans. I'm entering my late 40s and don't drink. I love the music and even if my feet are not dancing, my heart is.
