The new songs I'm hearing are a far cry from what made me fall in love with the avett brothers--the energy, passion, intensity, the gritty edginess. I'm not saying these songs are bad, I don't think they could make truly bad music, but I wouldn't be surprised to hear this stuff on the Top 40, and I'm not used to their music being so...approachable? I don't want to listen to something that just anyone would turn on and sway their head to, I want something that might take a couple of listens, something that really grabs at a part of you, and I've always felt they offered that...until now.
