This musical journey of mine, lovingly dubbed “mAyVETT 2009”, began on Thursday, May 14 at the lovely and air-conditioned Rio Theatre in Santa Cruz, California. The infrequent opener “Go to Sleep” was the bookend to 25 songs - 7 of which are unrecorded/unreleased – and the closing rendition of “If It’s the Beaches” was quite spectacular with the addition of cellist Joe Kwon’s hauntingly beautiful element on a song that already has a tendency to rip your heart out.
