Avett Brothers bassist Bob Crawford talks politics at The Basement in Nashville

I chose to put this link on General Discussion, because some people are not comfortable talking politics, which is very understandable. I myself, usually avoid it at all costs, but I just wanted to share this article with some comments from Bob that I think almost anyone could agree are knowledgeable and wise. As always, please be respectful of Bob each other if you care to discuss the political views in this article. Thanks!

The respect these guys have earned from me keeps adding up. From their lyrics, to the music, performances, charity, devotion to fans etc....and now this. I know you shouldn't like a band (more than you already do) for their political views, but I know I probably will, even if Bob is only speaking for himself and no other members.

Thank you LindaM for posting this, esp since it seems to go against your nature. Not directed to you directly, but I think part of the problem is that politics is not discussed in polite society. At the founding of this country (and before) it was openly discussed and debated.

The site that was referenced is an obvious Libertarian site, with a Libertarian agenda. Yet Bob's quotes did not overtly suggest his leanings were Libertarian. I am slightly offended by the website's use of Bob's words to fit their agenda. He may agree with their politics, but the article posted did not state that. And that worries me.
*Disclaimer 1: I am a political junkie. I have watched, for years, how savvy political parties, and those who support the parties, get their message out.
And not always to the benefit of the voter.
*Disclaimer 2: I am definitely NOT a Libertarian, but I tend to agree with most of the things that Bob says in these quotations. We can always find things we agree with when we read selected quotations from people we admire. And there are many, many ways to use those quotations to one's benefits.

Thank you LindaM for the link. The site may make me queasy, but I love to hear discourse, no matter its source.
And I agree with you that political discussions are uncomfortable in places like this. I wish they weren't. But they are.
I admire your discretion in presenting this one this way.
