BIG announcement - NYE

BIG announcement - NYE

wow... while I am not completely happy about it ( b/c of the sound, etc. in the civic center), i'm excited for those who didn't get tickets to the show and will be able to make it now...

thanks ramsuer for still giving priority to those who got the original tix and allowing us early entry.... very cool....

Replies for this Board Topic

Very cool...thanks fellas!

"Do the best you can and that won't go unseen."

Only seen one show at the Civic Center and it was Bob Dylan. The sound was pretty bad...but it was my first time seeing Dylan so I didnt mind.

Gonna be a great time.

I gotta' say, that's pretty cool, and it's making me reconsider. But then I remind myself that that's crazy.

Is the Civic Center right next to the Thomas Wolf Auditorium?

Holy F! This is cool, but I'm still not sure what to do. I had convinced myself that it would not be possible to get a ticket to NYE.
I promised someone 2 days ago that I "wouldn't be buying ANY more tickets to ANY concerts any time soon."

Does anyone know how many more people the Civic Center can fit? As in..how many more tickets will be made available?

It's in the same building as Thomas Wolfe. The CC can hold 7,200, as opposed to Thomas Wolfe's 2,400.

yeah the Thomas Wolfe is a decently nice auditorium witch seating throughout.... the civic center is a big 2 story room with a wide-open downstairs and then stadium seating up top on the balcony..... the sound is really bad up top, but its the only place you're guaranteed a seat

Well Locust, Mount Pleasant, Concord.... LETS GOOO!

Oh wow, so almost 5,000 more.

So I'm confused... does this mean ALL the Thomas Wolfe ticket buyers get in early and that there's no "special" early admission for the first 30 ticket holders? 2400 getting in early doesn't seem like much of a special early admission.

And does the "General Admission" still apply??

lol @ the folks on ebay asking 300 a pop for a sold out TWA....DOH !

Seriously though, an additional 5500 6 weeks before the show..wow...Any chance they'll sell it out ?

" The day will come, the sun will rise and we'll be fine "

its going to be general admission?

--
Discovered by the Germans in 1904 they named it San Diego, which of course in German means a "whale's vagina."

The first group of presale buyers will still get special early admission (an email will be sent to that group about a week before the show), then the Thomas Wolfe buyers will get in, then everyone else. We haven't ironed out all of the timing details yet, but we will post as soon as we do. And yes, it's still general admission.

Cool!!!

Very excited... Laughing out loud:D:D

Yeah not really sure how I feel about this....
My brother and I got tickets for Thomas Wolfe and the Tennessee.... as much as I LOVE TAB and love even more seeing them live starting to reconsider if seeing them in a huge arena will be worth it when I'm going to see them the night before in the absolutely amazing Tennessee Theatre. 5,000 more tickets doesn't seem like they'll sell out but it will still be pretty crowded, and I've heard the sound there isn't the best.
Anybody else feeling the same way?
--
One with earth and one with God

Crazy. Does the CC have built in seats as well?
If it does sell out that's gonna be one incredibly large NYE party.

--
Things change and get strange with the movement of time, it's happening right now to you.

It's great that there is going to be an opportunity for more people to see them. However, as some others have noted...the sound quality in our Civic Center is pretty bad, esp if you are up top. Atleast you'll be able to catch them on NYE though.

--
"Do the best you can and that won't go unseen."

I'd love to go... but with ticket master fees it would be around $61 for each GA ticket to an incredibly crowded show.

Maybe if I were taller and wouldn't get swallowed by the crowd it would be worth the price. Smiling

I hope those of you that go have a lot of fun, regardless!

this is going to be crazy!

I was thnking about going, but my beard just wont be ready by then.

down on the floor there aren't seats, except around the edges. it'll be the same feel as the charlotte bojangles coliseum show. gonna be a great time! and yes, i do think they'll still sell out Smiling... or at least get within 500 tix of selling out.

well since this announcemtn - i'm nearly positive i'm gonig to make it to ATL now.... Avetts at the Civic Center just won't be as cool as Thomas Wolfe would have been.... not complaining, just stating my point of view on the civic center....

Talk about burning the scalpers! They'll be lucky to get face value now. Should be one great party. Drop all those excuses for not coming.

Rejoice always, Mark

i'm happy for those who are now going who weren't...

I think it's a great opportunity for everyone to get a shot at going, and that alone is good reason enough for the switch.

I will feel bad for those at the back, though, as I'm sure it will be hard to hear.

And I was looking forward to seeing The Avett Brothers play the same venue (Thomas Wolfe) where I saw my very first concert.

I love the fact that the scalpers will now be taking a bath. will surely be one hell of a NYE party.

sorry double post.

YES!!!! Now I can get tickets.

Whatever satisfies the soul is truth--Walt Whitman

sn't anyone mad that the price went up to $125 a ticket and the venue is bigger? That usually means seats are cheaper. They didn't burn the scalpers. They ARE the scalpers. The tix should be the same price as before if they are really concerned about the fans.

--
"The nights only get longer before your sun will shine...leave the clock alone my brother, your enemy is time."

and now I contemplate...

where did you see it was $125 per ticket? I have a really hard time believing that.... i don't know why they would increase the price -i'm sure they'll be $50 a piece...

--
Well Locust, Mount Pleasant, Concord.... LETS GOOO!

TheMourning...if it leaves such a bad taste in your mouth, don't go. No one is forcing you to purchase tickets. Although, I have no idea where you saw that figure. Its not posted that there was an increase in price. Regardless, I'm happy that folks that didn't get tickets orginally now have the opportunity. IE: Jerry!!! Hope to see you there catfisher!!

Oh, BTW...if you knew ANYTHING about these gentlemen, you couldn't possibly say they have no concern for their fans. Ridiculous.

Be Kind, For everyone you meet is fighting a hard battle.

i'm assuming the picture of scott holding the clock is from a NYE show?

Ticketmaster has the price listed as $43. Is that how much the original Thomas Wolfe tickets were?

They were originally $44 not including fees.

$48.50 total for mine.

--
Be Kind, For everyone you meet is fighting a hard battle.

Will - no that was actually when The Avetts decided to do a Public Enemy cover of "Fight the Power" and Scott decided to dress up as Flavor Flav.....

haha - yes its from NYE - i believe 2 years ago

Well Locust, Mount Pleasant, Concord.... LETS GOOO!

I would like to make the following comments to the following groups of people: (ahem)

1.) Everyone bad mouthing the Avetts - Let it go. Of course they get more money for this show but they've earned it. I agree it sucks that they changed the venue last minute but don't take it out on the brothers.

2.) Everyone badmouthing the fans who are complaining about the venue change - You're even worse! The last minute venue change did burn a lot of people and they have every right to complain.

3.) To all the complainers - Stop Complaining! I bet your the same fans that think its rude to dance and sing along to the fast Avett songs in concert and think you're not a "real fan" unless you've got enough free time to go to more then 10 shows a year since the group formed.

4.) To myself - Stop complaining about all these comments. Its ironic and adding fuel to the fire.

I just got my membership to this site cancelled didn't I?

Hysterical...if only he had a Viking hat!

Be Kind, For everyone you meet is fighting a hard battle.

The e-mail notification I got said tix are now $125 and there's an early entry option. I got mine for $43 in the first sale. I hope I'm mistaken.

--
"The nights only get longer before your sun will shine...leave the clock alone my brother, your enemy is time."

Steph...can you weigh in on the price?

--
Be Kind, For everyone you meet is fighting a hard battle.

you must have received some different e-mail than the rest of us folks b/c my e-mail states exactly whats on the main page and says nothing about ticket prices - just times and addt'l info....

"We wanted to bring in 2010 with as many of our fans as possible, and we are pleased to announce we are now playing the Asheville Civic Center* on December 31st!

Tickets go on sale THIS Friday at 10 AM EST, so check back on the official site then for your ticket link.

We hope to see you all out to celebrate!

Thanks,
The Avett Brothers"

now its going to be interesting to se IF they can sell the civic center out and, if so, just how fast...... anybody want to take the over / under on December 14 for a potential sell out? - i personally don't think they'll sell the Civic Center out, but will be interesting to see if so....
--
Well Locust, Mount Pleasant, Concord.... LETS GOOO!

Nevermind. I'm a dumbace. That was mail from a tickethouse I responded to on Craigslist looking for tix for my brother. I'll be more careful in the future.

"The nights only get longer before your sun will shine...leave the clock alone my brother, your enemy is time."

On ticketmaster, tickets to the "new" show at the Civic Center are listed at $43.

I've read several replies from you guys that are upset that they have gone to a bigger venue. I do agree that smaller venues are better, but what I don't agree with is the statement that it was the "true fans" who got tickets to the first show.

I'm not exactly sure what fits the bill of a true fan to you guys, but I have been going to avett brothers shows since 2006. I've been to 7 different states to see them, and seen about 50 shows. I was there before they got big, so I consider that to be a "true fan" if we really want to give each other labels.

However, due to the fact that I WORK, as a teacher, and can't just stop class in the middle of the period so I can go get Avett Brother tickets, I was unable to get them last time. It's not that I didn't try or care, but I just had to be honest, loyal, & true, and focus on what I was commited to doing, which was teaching. I am thrilled that they are offering them again, b/c now I have someone lined up who will grab some for me.

I know a lot of people that have only heard a few Avett's songs that got tickets from the first sale, so to hate on everyone who is excited for a second opportunity is ignorant.

I think we all know that the vibe of the avett's shows is going to change, just b/c of the fairweather fans who are just jumping on the bandwagon, but as long as their lyrics stay strong and true, and get your heart everytime, it shouldn't matter what the people around you are doing, or how many of them there are.

This happens to a lot of bands, and the "true" fans end up feeling rejected and insulted, like a jealous ex girlfriend who'se been replaced by another girl.

That's not the Avett's.

Talking to Scott & Seth several times one on one has told me It's not about the money. Just listen to the song, "Salvation song" if you need proof of that

Imagine that you had a secret.
Every person you told this secret to was changed for the better. Happier, brighter, more optimistic.
Would you keep that secret to yourself?
Would you share it with only a few close family and friends?
Or would you want to share it with as many people as possible?

If you answer that question for yourself, you'll understand why the Avett's are going for bigger crowds.

"And they may pay us off in fame
Though that is not why we came
And I know well and good that won't heal our hearts.
We came to break the bad
We came to cheer the sad.
We came to leave the world behind a better place."

catfisher--so glad you get to go. Smiling along with everyone who was aching for some tickets.

Leo--do it! do it! do it!

In my unsolicited opinion, there are some Knoxville-only and Atlanta-only folks (like me) that feel a liiiittle bit better about their show. =)

I don't enjoy big venues with general admission and Asheville just went from bad to worse! But for those than can take the heat and missed out during the first ticket fiasco, this is good news. I'm most happy that the scalpers have been sucker-punched. (Unless the tickets are $125. If so, that is down and dirty.)

I'm quite sure they did not raise the ticket prices for this show! That would not be very Avett-like. Also, I would bet that the motivation behind doing this had more to do with the fans than money. I would also like to add...I love that the scalpers got stiffed on this one!!!
