NYE early admission
NYE early admission
Posted: Monday, December 14, 2009 - 11:45
Has there been an announcement regarding early admission for the NYE show for people who bought tickets for Thomas Wolfe prior to the venue change?
Thanks

Replies for this Board Topic
They're letting all those that bought Thomas Wolfe tickets in early, and those that bought the first 30 presale tickets get in even earlier.
I believe cvbizz was asking if anyone had received any details concerning where and what time we need to line up etc....

Ah, I don't think any announcements have been made. I'm sure they'll make one soon enough. They're probably still trying to figure out the logistics.
Hey anyone have any info on the early entry tix for the asheville show??? I purchased 2 tickets the day they went on sale so they were for the thomas wolfe then when it sold out so fast they switched the show to the civic center and as posted on this website it says if you bought tix to the thomas wolfe you will get early entry to the show..great....my problem is they were e tickets and i just print them 2day and it says the civic center on them but does have seat numbers like the thomas wolfe venue....so does anyone else have the same problem or have any info on how they will know that these tix were purchased for the orig venue??? thanx
I'm pretty sure the "seat number" actually represents a "ticket number" and will probably be used to determine when you purchased your tickets and will determine whether or not you get early entry. It's just a number right? No letters or anything indicating floor, balcony, etc? The Thomas Wolfe show was also general admin, so seat numbers wouldn't make sense.

You'll get an email a week, give or take, before the show if you got early entry. I'm sure that people will come on here and post if/when they get it.

Wish me luck, I know you think I'll need it.
For all the hardest roads we have to walk alone.
The Bar Codes.
The first 2400 tickets sold, each has a separate bar code
which will recognized by the scanners
and it will reject others until 8:00
at which time all ticket holders will be allowed in.
Thanks Santa. You must be resting up for the big run. Nice to know you are a fan.

Who did you get the email from? AA or Ticketmonster?

Artist Arena for me.
So is it, the first 30, presale, then TW and then everyone else?
--
"Hell has no fury like a woman; happy, scorned, or otherwise"
My email from Artist Arena did not specify me as one of the first 30, but told me to line up by 6:45 so I could get an early entry wristband for 7:30. My assumption was all of the presalers got the same early entry time, but I could be wrong. And then after that TW, and then everyone else.
I have spoken with someone from both AA and Asheville CC in the last few days. From these conversations I have gained a sufficient understanding of the early entry debacle. I thought I would post what I gained here to hopefully lessen some of the confusion on the day of the show.
1st entry: First 30 pre-sale ticketholders. These folks should have received an email from AA.
2nd entry: Remaining pre-sale ticketholders. These folks should have received an email from AA as well.
3rd entry: Everyone else that has tickets for the original show at TW Auditorium. These folks will have a separate line at the CC. The lady I spoke with at the CC said this line will be marked with signs. This entry will occur at 7:30 pm.
Hope all this helps! Merry Christmas everybody! See y'all in Knoxville!

"If I were walking through the rain, and I hear you call my name, I would break into a run without a pause."
Thanks for the info! That cleared everything up.
Then the 4th entry would be everyone that bought tickets to the Civic Center show.
This will be one for the record books. In my 40 years of concert experiences I have never heard of a show with four different entry times. As confusing as this is for the people here on the board just imagine how bewildered and upset the average ticket buyer will be that has no clue what's going on. If I bought a ticket last week and did not even know there had been a pre-sale I would be stunned to see 2500 people being allowed in before me.

Good point sundayrehab. There are bound to be some very unhappy people who waited in line for hours under the impression that they'll get a spot up front just to watch thousands of people march in before them. Folks buying tickets on Ebay are bound to be upset too. Most of the tickets are marked as early entry but don't specify 1st, 2nd, or 3rd. This is going to be interesting to say the least.

"I'm a little nervous 'bout what you'll think when you see me in my swimming trunks."
Indeed.
I know there's been some backlash before for criticizing the Artist Arena f-ups but, at this point, you'd have to have your head squarely up your ass not to see that there are some serious flaws in the system.

I keep tellin' myself that it'll be fine. You can't make everybody happy all of the time.

"If I were walking through the rain, and I hear you call my name, I would break into a run without a pause."
The people at AA only have the info for the pre-sale ticketholders. That is why I called the CC to inquire about the plan for everyone else. I'm not saying it's right. Hopefully all lines, etc. will be clearly marked the day of the show to minimize confusion and anger. Nonetheless, I'll still be there for my first NYE with the Avett Nation and I plan on having a damned good time!

"If I were walking through the rain, and I hear you call my name, I would break into a run without a pause."
It's not about making people happy. It's about doing the right thing by your fans who have all, in this case, paid the exact same price (assuming face value) for tickets to a show that is confused at best and a pending catastrophe at worst.

Catastrophe?
Really? Such heavy words... C'mon now y'all, it's not the apocalypse!
And now, for some borderline clichéd ranting...
Don't sweat the small stuff.
I see where y'all are thinking there may be unhappy people or whatever, but it's not like the pre-sale information wasn't made public and a chance given to all. I agree that there are flaws, but no system or process that involves this many people is perfect.
If anything, any confusion or disappointment that arises will be because they've tried so hard to make people happy and give extra perks.
You have to see that the intention was good. If it's become a mess, so what? We all still get to go inside and see our favorite band play on one of the biggest party nights of the year. Sounds fun to me.
Ya have to pick your battles.
This show is much bigger than anyone ever imagined it would be (It's now sold out, but Warren Haynes' Xmas Jam, which reaches a much more widespread audience, didn't?!?) Why not just take it for what it is, relax, and enjoy things? Focus on the good, not the bad. Once the music starts, none of the other crap'll matter that much anyways. It's not like we can change it now.
"The early bird catches the worm"
). But even for those not that involved, there was plenty of chance for them to find out the same information and get their tickets early.
The early-entry thing was all about being first. And not everyone can be first. In fact, most of us simply cannot.
I'm pretty sure some of us pay more attention to this board & the goings-on of The Avett Brothers than any other website (or anything at all?
Even for a band I'm only somewhat aware of, if I'm thinking of going to see them play, I go visit their website to check out what's going on related to their tour/shows/etc. Alot of times, I find out too late to participate in certain special/street team/early bird offers. I feel like I missed out but oh well, that's life.
Point being, everyone has a fair shot at getting informed. Not making the effort to do so doesn't give you a right to cry about it later...does it?
And even many of those of us who were informed and seated at their computers the very second tix went on pre-sale, we still didn't end up with early entry.
I was definitely one of those people this time around. Was I disappointed? Sure, you bet. But you know what I said to that? "Oh well." It's not the end of the world. Or the night. Or the show.
This is one show. I love being up front as much as anyone, but this is one where I'll choose to experience the show differently and make the most of it no matter where I end up.
Besides, many of us here on the boards are not the average concert-goer. The average ticketholder is not going to show up hours in advance. In fact, alot of people don't even show up until well after the doors open because they have no interest in even catching the openers. Chances are, many people won't care or even know how many people went in ahead of them because they won't even get there until 9 or 10 that night.
"It's not where I am, it's who I'm with."
And on New Years Eve, it's going to be with a bunch of FRRRRIENDS and fans of The Avett Brothers...in front of, and surrounded by, the music of the same. That's hardly a catastrophe. It's cause for celebration. And I plan to. I hope you'll all raise your glass high and toast to the amazing year we've all had on this crazy ride both because of and in addition to the music, the community, the concert experience, new friends, and anything else that's been inspired as a result. It's all good.
I can't wait for this run. The best part of going to all three is that they're all going to be different shows. The venues are all very different, the crowd should be different each night, and you know the boys are gonna keep things fresh & fun night after night.
Just one more eye roll-inducing cliché, then I'm out...
"Nobody likes a Party Pooper!"
Damn, I'm long-winded.
Well put angischy!
--
"If I were walking through the rain, and I hear you call my name, I would break into a run without a pause."
Angischy I disagree.
When you spend a lot of time on the board you start to think everyone out there pays as much attention to all things Avett. The vast majority of fans do not. I bet less than 50% of the people with tickets to the New Years show have ever been on the web site. If you went to Ticketmaster last week and bought a ticket there was nothing to clue you in about the multiple entry times. You would have bought a general admission ticket thinking you had as good a shot as anyone else at being up front.
I don’t think its the end of the world. I don’t think it’s going to be a disaster. But I do think many people will be shocked as the night plays out. At the same time I bet everyone attending will have a BLAST. I don't think it’s wrong that people are talking about the situation. It is a topic worth discussion.
"But even for those not that involved, there was plenty of chance for them to find out the same information and get their tickets early."
Not quite true. The presale is the disaster I'm talking about. Plenty of fine folks missed out on the early purchase option b/c AA dropped the ball and couldn't handle the load. And that's my only point on that matter. Next year, there just needs to be better planning behind the presale and an anticipation by all parties involved that this thing will continue to be HUGE from this point out. The boys sold out how many thousands of seats for just a 4 day run? Incredible. I wouldn't have believed it possible 3 years ago.
All that being said, I understand your point about not being Donnie Downer. And that wasn't why I brought it up. It is still a pertinent issue as many folks will indeed be in for a surprise when they show up and are in Line #4 and had no clue about Line #3, 2, and 1. NC4Now is right. I was a fan for several years and was going to shows, etc. and never even knew there was a newsletter and a forum. Luddites and just those who overlook what we take for granted.
But such is life! And the party doesn't end nor does it get subdued in any case. I fully agree with 1000% fun the night of, no matter what the situation may bring. I've got the handwarmers... who's got the hot cocoa?

Of course you disagree NC4Now.
I know most people don't live on the boards. But everyone has equal opportunity to do so.
The pendulum swings both ways. I know my prior post maybe over-accentuated the positive, but point is, we've all done quite a bit of complaining already, and what's done is done.
Was there a single pre-sale that went perfect this year? Not really.
DEAD HORSE!

Now for the important stuff: the party favors!
Anyone up for continuing the I got ___...who's got ___...? game?
I've got the hot cocoa...and the peppermint schnapps to sparkle it up a bit.

It is worthy of both discussion and caution. "Catastrophe" too extreme a word? I hope so, but this wouldn't be the first rock concert that turned into a disaster. The disorganization and lack of communication along with the insanity of 7000 GA tickets and four entry times certainly don't inspire confidence. Probably everything will go well and a good time will be had by all. Then you can come back and laugh at us naysayers.
Just a word from one of my favorite movies. "You be careful out among them English."

It's certainly worthy of discussion, Mr Z. I wasn't intending to imply that it wasn't. I just think at some point, it's time to call Dead Horse & move on.
Pre-sale sucked. Yep. Got it....
But maybe I'm the one who ought not to be weighing in, seeing as I'm not even going to be there in the thick of the liner-uppers.
All in all, perhaps this explains or at least colors my positive attitude: We will not be lining up early.
I'm a big Avett fan, but I'm no fan of winter. Plus, I've never been to Asheville, and I'd rather spend my time checking out the town han freezing my butt off in line. I do plan on coming to check in on the early birds once or twice during the day though. (bearing gifts of tasty treats & other delights to warm those braving the cold)
We're gonna come to the venue at our leisure and enjoy the night for what it is. The plan is to be happy with the two seated shows book-ending this run and then roll with the punches on NYE. Poor choice of words actually.... I'm hoping the night will be free of any punches at all!
Of course I'm going to enjoy the show, but there's so much more going on. I plan to meet some new people and do our best to live out that Avett spirit during the show. Have some drinks (which I usually refrain from at TAB shows), dance a little, sing a little, do the countdown, hug all my buddies new & old at midnight, dance & sing some more, scream and laugh and cry and celebrate life.
Speaking of dead horses, I've beat my own. (uh... TWHS!)
Merry Christmas everyone. See y'all in Knoxville & beyond

BobZ it must be wonderful to be the Grand Poobah.
When I said “It is a topic worth discussion.” I get a snarky “Of course you disagree NC4Now.”
When you say “It is worthy of both discussion and caution.” you get a respectful “It's certainly worthy of discussion, Mr Z. I wasn't intending to imply that it wasn't.”
That cracked me up.
If this board can’t tolerate discussion, and only exists to repeat the mantra of EVERYTHING IS OH SO VERY WONDERFUL, then it isn’t serving a useful purpose

There are others on this board more worthy than I, but the same can be said of the presidency. I got the power, and I ain't letting go.

Ah, good. Exactly what I was going for.
I guess i will be in the 3rd entry since i have tix to the orig venue...what im wondering is where the hell are they going to line up all these 7000 people??? The front of the civic center can hold a few hundred people and i have seen them line folks up on the side walks on the streets beside the civic c but as of today they are still doing construction on the lexinton ave side and from experience the other stores around the center get pissed and do not let people line up down the street so this should get interesting....PS on the civic centers big sign out front it says no book bags or large purses under the big sold out avett bro...
"PS on the civic centers big sign out front it says no book bags or large purses under the big sold out avett bro..."
Well if I can't take in a back-pack, where the hell am I supposed to store my Snuggie when I go in?
Seriously though, where are people on the floor supposed to put their coats?
Looks like we have 2 options. Freeze in line with no coat or sweat our asses off in the show.
But it's all gravy, baby! I'm so stoked for this week.
Anybody know the deal with cameras? Copesthetic? Or no?

yep the coat thing is gonna suck..I was thinking of just wearing an old coat i dont care about or maybe going to a goodwill and picking one up for like 5 bucks then just leave it outside on the way in and maybe it will be there on the way out but if not it 's not that big of a deal plus im thinking i will prob have a poncho on bec of the rain/snow so as long as the coat will keep me warm it should work...Im prob going to do the same thing with a cooler just gonna bring a cheap styrofoam one to keep bevg's cold or prob hot and then i guees ditch that 2......If it's true about the 30min early entry time i just think its going to be real hard to get over 2000 pep checked in in that amount of time but we will c...cameras im not sure the last show i went to at the civic center my friend took some pic's but im pretty sure she put it in the small zipper part of her purse so idk
no backpacks.

Burn the questions. Burn the shame.
Cameras might be OK-most venues I've been to haven't made a fuss about them-maybe SLRs won't be allowed but most compact digitals should be cool. The jacket part could be an issue but I'll cross that bridge when I get there. Thirty minutes for a little over 2000 folks-that might take a tad longer unless they don't pat everyone down and use as many agents at the doors as possible. If they do that it should be smooth, just hope everything is well marked.

yea i hope and they should have plenty pep working the doors they will have had over a week to prepare for a sold out show....yep thats the main thing i hope they can handle is the lines and hope they have everything marked well....I was thinking of just going to check the set up around noon then hanging out at the beirgarden for food and drinks bec u can step out from there and see how big the lines are getting
I like bginasheville's idea about buying a cheap coat and leaving it outside.
Hmmm. Asheville has a lot of homeless people. Maybe, if enough people run with your idea (I may), we could put some bins out and do an Avett Brothers Coat Collection For The Homeless. Everyone put their throw-away coats together and go donate 'em to the shelter afterwards?
