Hello, everybody--
Recently we've been experiencing some slowness on the site. We've traced this to the points system.
We have two options:
1) To wait until we've fixed the points module (around two weeks) and live with the delays.
2) Temporarily suspend the points module to get the site speed back up to par while we fix it.
We are going with option 2, as we think that wasting people's time with long waits is far worse than the temporary lack of a points system.
If you are a registered user, you will not lose any points or status you have accumulated; they will be intact when we reinstate the module. Unfortunately, you will not accrue any points while the system is down.

God, now we'll never get enough points to get adopted by Jim and Susie!
Why not just eliminate the points system altogether and then you don't have to spend your valuable time figuring out how to fix it?

I've always found the points thing rather confusing.
My grand total makes sense, when I go to my profile, but when I EARN points, the total is nonsense. The line "total is now" could end with anything -- 71, 690, whatever -- it's NEVER even close to the actual total.
No biggie, but it is confusing.
Still, I like the points. I guess I just like birds, is all.

The total shown when you earn points is the total for that particular category of points, like logging in, posting on the boards, posting a review, etc.
at the last show I went to the band was signing stuff afterwards and when I finally got to the front of the line Darling asked me how many points I had and I proudly said, "1250!" He looked down and said. "sorry I can't sign this." So I left
It's a good thing I cashed in my points earlier this week. Where did you think that Charlotte in store came from :-)
Ha...I haven't stopped in here for months...MONTHS...and the first thread has a reference to 25. Bah haha. "Things change and get strange," just not on the ol' Avett Boards...
What can the points be used for? If there's and explanation on the site, please direct me. thanks.

I have a feeling most people agree with your decision to go with option 2.

also, any update on the search function and the issues with no preceding/following threads at the top of each thread and not going to the latest post in a thread? a lot of the stuff that went wonky a few months ago is still wonky.

I'm under the impression that none of us really care for the points, but many of us like the birds because they are cute...
Yeah, I like the birds but the points don't worry me much. I would like to know who has friended me though, because I don't think I've friended anyone, but my profile says I have 7 friends...
I don't know about 'friends' or 'birds'. I am so out of the loop.

Welcome to "Whose Line Is It Anyway" the show where everything's made up and the points don't matter. That's right, the points are just like the plot line of a porno film. They just don't matter.
But mia, what about birds? Do they matter? And friends? Doesn't everyone need friends?
I may be existential, but not everyone here is.
I don't even know what the "points" add up to... my Q is, why don't our Avett-y signatures show up anymore? I'd rather see that feature (cause there are SO many great ones that we each personally relate to!!)

Hey, as long as we're making suggesting for improving the boards, I'd like to suggest that the "Lyrics and Tabs" and "Songs" threads be combined, as well as "Setlists" and "Concert Reviews".
