Here's my Avett discovery story:

The Avetts are my new obsession. I'm late to the game, but I'm glad I'm finally on the roster! I'd heard the name and had caught an appearance or two on Letterman and maybe Ferguson. I'd even jotted the name down to investigate further...then forgot. So, here I go walking into Hot Topic in Altamonte Mall (‘burb in Orlando) a few days before Christmas and some typically loud, obtrusive song was blaring. I tune it out, then the next song comes on and I'm like... Wait..is that a banjo? Song continues and I am stock-still, listening. It was January Wedding. The store was packed and as the song was ending, I was literally pushing and pulling people (ever so politely) outta my way in a desperate attempt to peek behind the cash register at the mp3 digital display. I grab a Sharpie out of my purse (you never know WHO you might run into) and scribble The Avett Brothers down my forearm. Later that day, at Borders, I buy the album not knowing what the rest of it would hold and man, was I hooked! The rest is history... find my way to appearances on youtube, to the website, to the boards and a week later I am in Atlanta at a sold-out show (that an Avett Nation board member helped me get tickets for) with all my new Avett buddies! It's been golden. The fans are gracious, polite and really some fantastic people. I even hauled one of them back to Florida with me from Atlanta as her ride had fallen through.

So...any band with a banjo that I first hear in Hot Topic has to be researched. And now I could write a thesis on how raw, rare and robust the TAB are, emotionally and musically. Thanks for finding me, Avetts. God Bless.
