"When people ask Scott and Seth Avett how long Jason's been listening to them play music they'll usually say, "forever" or "Jason who?" But what they should say is that Jason first saw them play at Chico's Mexican Restaurante in Winterville, NC (Greenville) back in the summer of 2004. A few friends of mine tried to get me to come see an Avett show a time or two before. They knew I didn't usually go see live music but insisted that I would like these guys. They may have also heard reports that I liked chips & salsa and drinking $1.50 beers. Some combination of those hearsay facts got me through the door one night and thirty or so Salvation Songs later and I still like chips & salsa and drinking $1.50 beers. The Avetts ain't bad, either. In fact, I love 'em. And it means a lot to me to see them play and to support them. I don't think this is much of a story about a fan's first show, but it was the beginning of something really special to me and to a lot of folks who got to see the Avetts put on several great shows amid the mist of sizzling fajitas and smoke in the corona lights."
