Reviews for this Album
The first Avetts album i ever heard - love.
My Favorite Avett Album
Amazing, very few albums have no songs that I don't skip over, but this is one. Includes two of my favorite songs by the band, One Line Wonder and SSS. Causey Commentary and Laser Pants show the band's humor.
Absolutely the best
Raw and early but completely amazing
cd to give...
someone who is new to TAB
The Best
This is the essential Avett Brothers record. It has a little bit of everything on it. I love all the albums but this stands alone as the cream of the crop.
How'd they do that?
I'm not an overly emotional type, but I ordered this album offline when I was a bit sore over a recently ended long-term relationship. My first Avett Brothers album. The entire work seemed so directly applicable to so many situations that I saw it as plum divine providence. I coasted through that break-up easier than I ever would've expected.
I've got to agree with the others...
This is my personal favorite. Sometimes I'm in more of a Four Thieves Gone or Emotionalism kind of mood, but this is by far the one I go for the most. It's a great summertime album.
:)
I love the story behind the title and think it's a reflection of them. They are nothing if not honest.
About as close to perfect as they got
This is the essential Avett Brothers album.
My Favorite Album
Mignonette is definitely my favorite album to date... I feel like there isn't a "down moment" or bad song on this entire album... from soft sounds of "Swept Away" to the raging stomping of "Pretty Girl from Cedar Lane," you just can't not have this CD... its a must have for any Avett fan
Favorite album to date...
i love most songs on this from Swept away( sentimental) to pretty gril from Cedar lane. This album is one of my top albums of all time.
first avett album
I bought Mignonette at my first avett concert, and was so stoked when i first listened to it. Coming from a concert to a studio recording was an experience, but it really showed how well they are technically. totally and wholeheartedly recommend this to anyone.
Greatness.
Mignonette is without a doubt the Avetts most complete work to this day and is a must have for any new Avett fan. If there is an album that the everyday Avett fan has to own, its this one.
Yes.
MIgnonette is probably tied for my favorite album.
:)
"Nothing Short of Thankful" gets me every time. This album also inspired me to read "Custom of the Sea," which I enjoyed thoroughly.
Best journey to take!
This is the second Avett Brother album I have bought. Without a doubt I wish I had know about them before I bought the newest album. These guys figured it out right away. Great job guys keep it up!
Machines
I am constantly surprised at how many of absolutely good songs come from them. They are always producing many more good songs on an album than most.
First Album I heard and still one of my favorites!
If you haven't listened to this album yet I would highly suggest you get it ASAP, a must have for the collection. It will always be one of my favorites because there are so many great songs on it. I remember when alot of there shows ended with Salvation Song....."We came for salvation,We came for family, We came for all that's good that's how we'll walk away, We came to break the bad, We came to cheer the sad, We came to leave behind the world a better way"....what more can you say!
I'm in love with this album
This is my favorite Avett Bothers album. I never get tired of it. When Im at a show and they say "were gonna play something off of Mignonette" or I hear the chords to the begining of a song off this album, I go crazy. I know it will be amazing because this entire album is everything I love about the Avett Brothers.
My favorite ever ever ever
I adore every song on this album. It's the one I choose most often and I usually play it beginning to end. Swept Away and New Love Song are so sweet. I can't get enough of SSS and Please Pardon Yourself. My four year old and I dance in the kitchen to At the Beach, and who can deny the glory of Laser Pants and the turkey incident.
Every song...
is great. Everyone should own and love this album. So many wonderful songs on this one...
The Best
My favorite album!!! Pretty much every song is my favorite. I also love the Causey Commentary and Laser Pants and the fun parts through out.
For Dad
The first album I ever had to go buy another copy for to give to my pa.
so great.
this album is simply... so great.
!
I have to agree with everyone who has commented so far! This album is awesome from Swept Away to Signs it continues to blow me away... I got to hear Jim Avett Perform Signs the way he originally wrote it and it was amazing! Glad the Brothers re-did it and put their own touch on it... It was awesome
(Place Sheer Joy Here)
Mignonette is the first draft of FTG, so immediately just as good and addictive. Another greatest hits packaged as an original album, it's pointless to pull tracks off and praise since I'd be preaching to the choir. Instant classics - Please Pardon Yourself, One Line Wonder, Signs and At the Beach. The best part of this album is that in between these songs are SSS, Swept Away, A Gift for Melody Anne, Salvation Song, The New Love Song, Letter to a Pretty Girl, Pretty Girl at the Airport, Pretty Girl from Cedar Lane and Nothing Short of Thankful. Pointless.
The Avett Brothers
This is the Avett Brothers. Enough said. Anything before this album is them trying to find their sound. They found it with Mignonette.
my first
the first whole album I listened to, in one go, on a drive back home from camp, the place where I first learned of the boys. I fell hard. I thought I had been a fan of various bands before, but this was my passport into the Avett Nation and I ain't lookin back.
It's just wonderful. If you haven't, listen to it right now. Right now.
Keep going back to this one....
No matter what, the songs on this album are the ones I go back to over and over. I also love that At the Beach is on here, and it always makes me think of my dad because its his favorite Avett song.
Hard worker
I fell like they are singing about my life...
So many good songs!
All of the "Pretty Girl" songs are wonderful, and I think this CD has the right combination of both slow beautiful songs and fast, energetic songs
great stuff
love it... the only one i don't like on here is the sentimental version of swept away...
The Mignonette
This was the first Avett CD that I Bought....the rest is history. The first Avett song i heard was "Nothing Short of Thankful" off of the Paste sampler DVD/CD. I fell in love immediately and went online and bought the CD. I anxiously waited for the next two weeks and when i finally got it i went to my room shut the door and listened to the album all the way through. It was a good introductory album for me cause it showcased there ability to convey emotions (Pretty Girl At The Airport!) and I had to get more. I asked for all their CD's for Christmas and bought the rest minus the unreleased's. But i feel this was the CD that sparked my interest.
Mignonette
One of my favorite albums with one of my favorite songs. Salvation Song makes me cry every time I hear it. But a happy, loving mother kind of cry. I have given this album to friends when I want to turn them on to The Avett Brothers. It's a great jumping off point. It always gets em hooked. =)
At the Beach
This song gets me excited for summertime when it's the dead of winter and 20 degrees below zero (with the wind chill)
Pretty Girl at the Airport
this song is one of my favorites... im revisiting it and im still in love.
YESS
At the Beach is awesome.. i love playing that acoustic solo when i listen to this song.
My favorite Avett album
By far my favorite album by the Super Avett Brothers
first avett album i ever listened too...
and it changed my life forever. i have said that "emotionalism" got me addicted but this was my first listen and has become my favorite. all the pretty girl songs are amazing and you can't help but laugh about the "turkey s***" stuff.
Crowning Achievement
I ultimately believe that the boys have grown with time and their later songwriting is extremely interesting, however this album is it for me. Its the first one I heard and I have an attachment to it like no other. All the songs are solid works of art on a stand alone basis. "Please Pardon Yourself" was and likely always will be my favorite song.
